The Marks ForgeriesAmong the multiplied forgeries cf

Albert Marks son of the late Gov

Marks of Tennessee turns up analledged forged note to the HickmanBank for 3 500 This note is signedby Marks Gen Jackson and W H

Jackson Jr and the two latter namesare now pronounced forgeries Thisnote was negotiated and taken by MrThomas Plater banker of Nashvilleand it is believed and hoped that theHickman Bank will not lose it

totHorse Thieves Captured

Sheriff Carpenter who pursued the

thieves who stole Mrs Gurleyshorses succeeded in capturing two of

the three George Ornn and Jim Pateat Morrii ton Mo on the Cotton Belt

Railroad They attempted to deny thecharge at first but finally weakened

and acknowledged that they had stolen

the horses and also the skiff from Mr

Dennis He also recovered Mrs GurIleys horsed They deny haying taken

the Wiley horses and the officer thinkthem innoceut of this charge They

are now in jailttH-

orse Thieves AboutRecently a number of horses have

been stolon or are missing in this

vicinity Mr John Wiley lost two

Mrs Nettie Gurley two besides others

who have horses missing Sheriff

Carpenter left Monday for a trip down

the river in pursuit of the horse thieves

and we hear that lie has reliable infor ¬

mation as to the names of the thieves

and the direction of their travel Mrs

Gurley pursued the thieves down the

river to near Caruthersville and found

that the suspected parties had crossed

five head of horses over tho ferry and

that over in Missouri she had recoveredone of her horses which had been sold

by them to a citizen These suspected

thieves are said to be traveling with

some kind ot a phonograph show mak ¬

log interior points at country school

houses and churches and it is believed

that Sheriff Carpenter will readily keep

track of and capture them
