About the international vibe

Hugo MartinezExchange student from Spain Campus Delft

“ Instead of working on a project on my own, I have the opportunity

to work with students from all over the world. We are making an electric car together. The car is important, of course, but being in

the Netherlands is also a nice change of scenery. The campus is so different

– it’s green and everything here is infused with innovation. ”

HERE’S WHY!

There are many good reasons to study in Holland. Dutch education is one of the most innovative and forward thinking systems in the world. It’s based on student-led learning, debate and hands-on experience. Holland also offers a high standard of living at a fairly low cost. Dutch society is liberal and open-minded with a vibrant cultural scene. You’ll be part of a dynamic cosmopolitan and multi-cultural community right in the heart of Europe. We’re a small country with a big international presence and boast the 18th largest economy in the world. Some of the world’s biggest multinationals, including Philips, Heineken, KLM, Shell, ING Bank and Unilever are Dutch. Sony, Sara Lee and Microsoft all have their European head offices here. It’s an accessible country too. Visas are easy to obtain and you don’t have to worry about speaking Dutch - almost everyone speaks English.

The Netherlands vs. Hollandur o cial name is The ingdom of the etherlands’. Holland only consists of

two of our provinces orth and South Holland. ut we usually use the name Holland when we refer to the whole country. To make things even more confusing the word utch’ is used to refer to someone or something from Holland.

Diana Carolina BedoyaInternational and European Law studentfrom Colombia

“ I love The Hague. I’m studying International and European Law and this is the perfect

place for that. The Hague is known as the ‘capital of law’. Here, you can find

the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice. Also, the city

is really internationally oriented. THUAS students are involved in many events and there are many projects where we get the

chance to debate. What I really like is that we can use the library at the Peace Palace. It’s so cool to be able to study in such a

historical and meaningful environment. ”

About her study choice

Taylor Mae BouwmanEuropean Studies fast-track studentfrom the Netherlands

“Studying at a university of applied sciences suits me really well. In comparison to a research university, the way of educating focuses more on your skills. When you are required to do a

presentation, you will be first taught how to present yourself. How do you make sure

people listen to you? Another difference is the level of personal attention. My tutor is sincerely concerned with my well-being. Lecturers will greet you in the hallway and

know who you are. ”

The difference between a university of applied sciences and a research university

There are two types of universities in the Netherlands traditional research universities and

universities of applied sciences H . oth o er bachelor’s and master’s programmes, but vary in their teaching methods.

H universities, like THUAS, put the emphasis on practical tuition and focus on your future career. You’ll learn by working on real life’ pro ects in close cooperation with the outside world.

We focus on training and career preparation and work closely with professionals to make sure that our programmes are cutting edge and industry relevant.

usinesses and institutions help design our curricula, which means they are hands-on, solution based and market ready. ur lecturers are working professionals, who’ll give you a first hand insight into their field.

WO universities tend to run more theory and research based courses and students attend larger lectures and work independently. H s have a more personal approach with smaller classes.

Please note: A THUAS bachelor will not necessarily qualify you for a master at a WO university in the

etherlands you may need to take additional courses.

At THUAS we currently run 43 full-time bachelor’s programmes, 11 of which are taught fully in English. Our bachelor’s programmes normally take four years to complete. However, some of our programmes are offered both in three and four years and some are offered only in three years. Please read the admission requirements carefully to see for which programme you are eligible.

All students go on an internship for one semester (half the academic year).

A bachelor’s programme is a natural progression for many after high school and that first step into higher education. They can vary in structure, from research based to more practical courses.

At THUAS, all of our bachelor’s degrees are founded on international and practical approaches, personal development and academic content. You’ll be taught through a mi of lectures, small group seminars, tutorials, self-guided study, individual assignments and e ams, finishing with your thesis.

Things are changing fast in the st century. lobalisation has given us a world and a labour market where anything can happen. There’s a lot of uncertainty, but, one thing we do know for sure is that uropean governments, businesses and non profi ts need future proof professionals to help them run, market, represent and advise their organisations. About visiting open days

Ásíyih Barker International and European Law studentfrom the United States of America

“ I was very calculating in my choice of school. I am from the USA, so I had to be

really sure that I wanted to live here. Before I made my decision, I went to open days at

Groningen, Maastricht and other universities, including THUAS. I travelled all around

Holland and I saw something in THUAS which was different. Here was a school where you get taught skills, like how to work in teams.

That was so exciting to me. I realised this was a big part of what’s important in education

and what employers look for. ”

Our academic year

Our academic year starts in September and ends in mid-July. It’s divided into two semesters, which are broken down into two periods of six weeks, with a week free between them. The free weeks fall in February/March, May and October. There is also a two week Christmas break.
