FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE COCA offers financial assistance for Summer Arts Camps. COCA accepts applications for assistance beginning March 1, 2018. Apply early; limited funds available.

Applications available online or in the Registration Office. Letters notifying applicants of their status will be emailed and registration will be available at that time.

ORIENTATION COCA offers evening orientation for families to tour the camp facility, meet the camp manager and learn and ask questions about camp policies and procedures.

WHAT TO WEAR Campers should wear comfortable clothing in which they can paint, move and play, and closed-toe shoes. Special dancewear requirements, when needed, will be included in the confirmation letter.

LUNCH/SNACK Full-day campers and campers staying for back-to-back half-day camps have a supervised lunch period. Full-day campers should bring a lunch, drink and two snacks. Half-day campers should bring one snack (soda and juice machines available). There is no refrigerator or microwave available. A nut-free table is available.

BEFORE & AFTER CARE COCA offers supervised Before Care (7:30–9:00AM; $40 per week) and After Care (3:00–6:00PM; $75 per week) at both its COCA and Westminster camp locations. Register at the same time you register for camps.

OUR PERSONALIZED APPROACHWe provide a safe, comfortable, arts-learning environment where our campers can truly enjoy art and the art-making process. Many of our camps are multidisciplinary by design and feature multiple teaching artists.

PRESENTATIONS & PERFORMANCESCampers learn in a FUN, RELAXED environment where they can express their creativity and gain self-confidence. Each Friday, family and friends are invited to performances and exhibitions (as noted) spotlighting the work created throughout the week.

NO EXTRA FEESAll art supplies, groceries, technology supplies and equipment, as well as field trips, are included (when applicable) in the camp price.

DRAGON’S LAIR3 TO 5 Return to “Once Upon a Time,” a time of castles, knights and most importantly, dragons. We create our own shining armor, princess hats and dragon masks. ON CAMERA INTENSIVE14 TO 18 BY AUDITION Participants learn skills needed to professionally audition and perform for the camera in commercials, television, serial work and film. Participants work on basic acting technique and audition strategies and discuss and gain practical experience in adapting our stage technique to on-camera work. Each day, we practice a selection of advertising copy, monologues and movie scenes on camera. Participants watch both professional footage and clips from our scene work each day as part of critique sessions. Participants receive a short reel of their strongest on-camera work.

TAP INTENSIVE II14 TO 18 BY AUDITION Participants spend the week diving into the vast world of tap dance for High Intermediate and Advanced levels (Intermediate 4 or above or 6+ years of tap technique). Each day participants train in rhythm tap technique and choreography while also taking classes focused on tap history, musical theatre, audition techniques, improvisation and more. Guest teaching artists bring their unique styles and teaching methods to broaden exposure and knowledge of tap. The intensive culminates with an informal showing highlighting the choreography learned, displaying a variety of tap styles and music.

VOICE INTENSIVE I: ACTING THE SONG14 TO 18 BY AUDITION The focus of this vocal intensive is to highlight the importance of acting in vocal performance. Participants work to intellectually and emotionally understand the story in the song and connect method-acting technique to vocal production. While technical vocal instruction such as basic sight-reading, diction, breathing and tone production are part of the study, the goal of the intensive is to help participants connect with the audience and song in a more expressive way. Participants leave the intensive with two contrasting songs prepared for their vocal portfolio.

Utilizing songs that represent a variety of musical theatre styles, participants integrate method acting technique into voice and scene work to better express a deeper understanding of the emotional life of the song. Participants also learn effective audition techniques and identify repertoire that highlights their individual strengths as singing artists. Participants leave the intensive with two to three contrasting songs prepared for their vocal portfolio.

FASHION INTENSIVE16 TO 18 BY REVIEW Experience the exciting process of fashion design from start to finish in one thrilling week at the beautiful Saint Louis Fashion Incubator! During this intensive, participants learn to create an effective mood board, design a garment, create and cut paper patterns and fabrics, and sew a basic garment prototype out of muslin using a variety of machine techniques. Participants also network with our Incubator designers and learn valuable presentation techniques for a portfolio. West Side Story sets Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in 1950s New York City as the two star-crossed young lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs. From the first notes to the final breath, their struggle to survive in a world of violence and prejudice remains one of the most memorable and powerful musical dramas of our time. Entire original production directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins.Students should prepare a monologue and 32 bars of a song. They should bring a resume and head shot. Those cast will be asked to pay a $310 participation fee; financial assistance is available. Performances are July 27–28, 2018 at Washington University’s Edison Theatre.

Everyone’s favorite practically perfect nanny takes the stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure.

Students should prepare 32 bars of a song and bring sheet music, a resume and a head shot/photo. Participation is competitive and by audition only. Students cast are asked to pay a participation fee of $570. Financial assistance is available. Campers cast in this production will spend three weeks (during the COCA camp day) rehearsing, then perform the show complete with set, lights and costumes on June 29 and 30 at Washington University’s Edison Theatre.

BUILDING CLOSURES: If severe weather, a power outage or unforeseen circumstances necessitate the closing of any COCA summer program, COCA is not responsible for providing a makeup session, credit or refund. COCA posts information about closings on local media outlets as well as at www.cocastl.org and 314.725.6555.

MEDICATIONS: Medical authorization is required from a physician for campers who require medication during the camp day. Medical forms are available online and will be provided by email.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATION: COCA does offer payment plan opportunities. COCA reserves the right to suspend or terminate instruction and performance participation for students who do not meet their financial obligations. Students are liable for the full cost of tuition. Students with outstanding balances will NOT be allowed to re-register until the balance is paid in full.

RETURNED PAYMENT POLICY: It is COCA’s policy to charge a $25 processing fee for any returned payments (checks or credit cards). Those whose payments are returned may lose the privilege to pay via check, credit card and payment plan.

WITHDRAWALS/REFUNDS: Tuition and before/after care fees will be refunded, less a $25 processing fee per camp, if you submit a withdrawal form by these deadlines:

COCA offers no refund or credit for missed camp days due to illness, schedule conflicts or any other reasons. Registration fees are non-refundable.

MEDICAL WITHDRAWALS: COCA offers no refund or credit after the withdrawal deadline except for documented medical conditions. You must submit a withdrawal form and documentation on physician’s letterhead. Medical withdrawals must be submitted before the last day of your child’s camp. Tuition will be refunded less the $25 processing fee per camp.

TRANSFERS: COCA offers the opportunity for students to transfer to another camp if space is available. Transfer forms are available in the front lobby and the Registration Office. Transfers must be submitted before the start of your child’s camp.

CANCELLATION: In the event that enrollment does not reach the required number for a particular camp, or circumstances arise beyond COCA’s control, COCA reserves the right to cancel. You will be notified, and we will be happy to work with you to find a suitable replacement. If no replacement can be settled upon, COCA will refund your money in full, less your non-refundable registration fee.

RELEASE/WAIVER: I hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless COCA and its employees from and against any and all claims for personal injuries or damages of any kind arising from participation in the COCA program. Furthermore, I authorize COCA staff and faculty to seek emergency medical help for me and/or my child if this becomes necessary. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless COCA personnel in seeking medical care for me and/or my child. I realize that every effort will be made by COCA staff to contact me in the event of a medical emergency involving my child.

IMAGE CONSENT: I agree that COCA may use my and/or my child’s likeness in the routine promotion of its programs and for other non-commercial applications.

FIELD TRIP CONSENT: I give permission for my child to leave the premises for field trips supervised by adult staff members. I understand that I will have advance information about the date, time and location of the field trip.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Financial assistance is available for COCA Summer Arts Camps. COCA accepts applications for financial assistance beginning March 1, 2018.
