Call 785-3800 Lyme Disease Awareness in Forest City April 21st Statistics are staggering! Ac- cording to the Centers for Dis- ease Control and Prevention (CDC) website www.cdc.gov data from 2014 indicates 96 per- cent of confirmed Lyme disease cases were reported from only 14 states nationwide. Of those 14, Pennsylvania had the high- est number with 6,470 confirmed and another 1,017 cases listed as “probable”. “Lyme disease is very preva- lent in the northeast,” stated Walter Dobushak, DO, board cer- tified family physician at McAn- drew Family Health Center in Vandling, part of Wayne Memo- rial Community Health Centers. “I’ve treated hundreds of cases when I was practicing in New York and I’m also seeing cases here.” On Thursday, April 21, Dr. Do- bushak will share his experience with Lyme disease through a program intended to increase the community’s awareness of the ill - ness. The program will be held at the Forest City Area Emergency Services building, 380 Railroad Street, Forest City, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the general public as well as area EMS profession- als. Topics covered will include: history of Lyme disease; caution in removing ticks; symptoms; current treatment and best line of defense based on CDC recom- mendations. Refreshments will be served. Prior to becoming the full-time family physician at the McAn- drew Family Health Center in April of 2015, Dr. Dobushak maintained a private family prac- tice in Kerhonkson, NY for more than 37 years. He also served as a consultant to the Public Health Department for Ulster County, NY. In that role, he focused on re- search and epidemiology regard- ing infectious diseases including West Nile Virus and Lyme dis- ease. Thursday, April 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The FCR School District has recently been informed that senior Anna Congdon, Browndale, has been awarded a 2016 National Scholastic Art Gold Medal for her art work “Lush Blush”. National Medalists for this award represent less than 1% of the 320,000 submissions. Past winners of this award include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, Lena Dunham, and Ken Burns. Anna and her teacher, Mrs. Galinsky, are now invited to aend a National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall to recognize and showcase award winners. Furthermore, Anna’s art work will also be featured in a National Exhibition at Par- sons School of Design at the New School and Pra Institutes Manhaan Gallery. Anna is the Forest City Regional’s second Gold Medalist in as many years. Last year Mahala Samp- son also won a gold medal for her artwork. The board also congratulated and thanked Mrs. Galinsky because this honor is a reflection of her hard work and dedication to the students. Baron Inducted into Teacher Education Program Jennifer Baron, Vandling, is one of 15 Wilkes Univer- sity students inducted into the teacher education program at a pinning ceremony aended by faculty, parents, friends and students on March 15. Students were presented with “Proud to Teach” pins by fac- ulty presenters. The ceremony marked their achievement of completing the Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements for entrance into the teacher edu- cation program. The require- ments include: passing a test of basic skills for educators; earn- ing at least a 3.0 grade point average; completing 48 credit hours including six credits in mathematics and six credits in English. These students will continue their studies in edu- cation and their major content area at the advanced level of coursework, which will culmi- nate in student teaching. Lyme Disease Awareness in Forest City April 21st

Statistics are staggering! Ac-cording to the Centers for Dis-ease Control and Prevention (CDC) website www.cdc.gov data from 2014 indicates 96 per-cent of confirmed Lyme disease cases were reported from only 14 states nationwide. Of those 14, Pennsylvania had the high-est number with 6,470 confirmed and another 1,017 cases listed as “probable”.
