The Foreign Student Program enables Algerians to pursue graduate-level study in the United States and build leadership skills. Whilepromoting mutual understanding. Programs are only for Masterdegrees.

Foreign Language Teacher Assistant program promotes the learningof critical need foreign languages in American universities. Theprogram targets Algerians aged 21-29 who are: English languageteachers with a bachelor’s degree, Teaching English as a SecondLanguage (TESOL) graduate students, or Masters degreed Englishlanguage teachers. Participants teach Arabic in American universitiesand take graduate-level English and American studies courses.

Fulbright Visiting ScholarsAlgerian scholars and researchers lecture and/or conduct research atU.S. universities and institutions in a myriad of disciplines for a half orfull academic year. (i.e. English, Media, Economy,…etc)

Humphrey ProgramUnder the auspices of the Fulbright program, Humphrey Fellows takenon-degree coursework and conduct research in their respectivefields of expertise for one academic year in the United States.

Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages conferenceTeaching of English for Speakers of Other Languages fundsattendance to the annual TESOL conference to provide the latestinformation on English teaching techniques, and opportunities topresent research and network with colleagues.

Study of the U.S. Institutes for Secondary Educators provides twomultinational groups of 30 secondary educators each (Englishteachers, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers,ministry of education officials, etc.) with a deeper understanding ofU.S. society, education, and culture, past and present. Through acombination of traditional, multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinaryapproaches, the programs elucidate the history and evolution ofU.S. educational institutions and values.

Study of the United States Institutes for scholars are six-week post-graduate level academic programs for multinational groups ofuniversity faculty. Focus is on a particular theme or topic about theU.S. The purpose of these institutes is to strengthen curricula andimprove the quality of teaching about the United States in academicinstitutions overseas.

TechWomenSince 2011, Techwomen has brought the power of global business,technology, and education together, TechWomen pairs women in SiliconValley with their counterparts in the Middle East and North Africa for aprofessional mentorship and exchange program at leading technologycompanies. Using innovative technologies, cutting-edge content, andsocial networking tools, TechWomen fosters and develops the nextgeneration of women leaders in the technology field by providingwomen and girls with the access and opportunity needed to pursuetech-based careers. TechWomen, a public-private partnership.

University Linkage Program 2:Through the University Linkage with Kasdi Merbah University ofOuargla. The U.S. Embassy developed a Career Center that offersprograms that train trainers for English Language Instruction andmanagement. You can sign up at the Career Center if you would like todevelop professional job building skills.

Middle East Partnership Initiative Leaders for Democracy Fellowship Program

The MEPI Leaders for Democracy Fellowship (LDF) Program is a 3-month program in the United States for 20-25 young civic leadersfrom the Middle East and North Africa. The program begins with 6weeks of academic coursework, where fellows focus on theconcepts of leadership, democracy, communication, and conflictresolution, among others. Fellows complete relevant seminars andworkshops that address theoretical debates as well as active,practical skills-building sessions. After completing the academicportion of the program, participants engage in a 6-weekprofessional assignment with a political, non-governmental, orpublic policy organization of professional interest in Washington, DC.Through this program component, participants gain a practicalunderstanding of the interactions between government and civilsociety, while also gaining valuable knowledge, skills, andprofessional contacts to benefit their professional pursuits in theirhome countries.

Leaders for Democracy Fellowship Arabic Program

The MEPI Leaders for Democracy Fellowship (LDF) Arabic projectprovides for ten weeks of study and professional experience inLebanon for 15-20 young civic leaders from across the Middle Eastand North Africa. The project begins with four weeks of academiccoursework in Arabic at the American University of Beirut, wherefellows focus on the concepts of leadership, democracy,communication, and conflict resolution. Fellows complete relevantseminars and workshops that address theoretical debates as well asactive, practical skills-building sessions. After completing theacademic portion of the project, participants engage in a five- to six-week professional assignment with Lebanese civil societyinstitutions and organizations. Participants gain a practicalunderstanding of the interactions between government and civilsociety while also gaining valuable knowledge, skills, and contacts tobenefit their professional pursuits in their home countries. Thisproject complements MEPI’s flagship English-language Fellowship,hosted by Syracuse University since 2007.
