From the Faithful Navigator…

Sir Knights and Ladies, this is my final newsletter to you. During my tenure as

Faithful Navigator I had the unique opportunity to get to know you better as we

mingled at social events, participated in community service projects, or attended

mass together. Please know that I truly enjoyed the pleasure of your company, the

benefit of your prayers, and the opportunity to serve the Assembly as your Navigator.

This Assembly has done quite a bit to make our community a better place over

the last 12 months. As a group of patriotic Sir Knights we marched in local parades

with an outstanding Color Corps. As compassionate Sir Knights we proudly provided

an Honor Guard and Color Corps detail for our Special Olympians during the

Opening Ceremonies for the Fall Games at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia

Beach. As generous Sir Knights we donated thousands of dollars to our religious and

catholic charitable organizations. As loving Sir Knights we attended social events

with our Ladies and at times our children. As caring Sir Knights we visited and

honored the graves of veterans at Christmas time and Memorial Day. There is much

we have done together as an Assembly and there is more yet to do under the watch

of your next Navigator Toby Robillard. Please continue to support the Assembly

under Toby’s leadership just as you have under my leadership.

Warrior Classic Golf Tournament – event date of Friday May 17th, 2019. A huge

success thanks to the leadership of event chair, WDD3/SK Ted Quinter and his team

of Sir Knights. The final figure of money raised for the USO-HRCV organization is

$16,500. Great job Sir Knights!

The 2019 Ladies Appreciation Dinner was held in conjunction with a Corporate

Communion Mass at Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church on May 18th, 2019. A

fabulous time was had by all. Special thanks to Sir Knight Duane Heidler and his

Lady Gina for spearheading this event.

Pungo Strawberry Festival Parade was held on Saturday May 25th, 2019. Thanks

to the 6 Sir Knights who supported this event. This was the last time for us to march

in legacy Regalia. Well done!.

Memorial Day & Gravesite Visitations were made on May 27th, 2019. Thanks to the Sir Knights and family who came and participated in this event. In particular, I would like to thank our CCC Wayne Phelps for organizing and executing this event. Lots of behind the scenes work was required to do the gravesite visitations and Wayne did it superbly.

Faithful Friar’s Minute…

The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, one of the most popular devotions of the Catholic Church. The Feast of the Sacred Heart is movable on the liturgical calendar and is celebrated on the Friday after the Feast of Corpus Christi; this year on June the 8th. The feast was first approved in 1765 for a specified number of dioceses and then to the Universal Church in 1856. Many churches throughout the world are dedicated to the Sacred Heart including our own cathedral in Richmond, and an image of the Sacred Heart can be found in many Catholic homes. One of the most popular devotions to the Sacred Heart is that of the First Fridays; which was an outcome of the apparitions of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary Alocoque during the year 1675. Our Lord made 12 promises to the saint including, “The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments. My heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.” Have you ever completed the 9 First Fridays? It’s not too late to start.

Combined Fourth of July Picnic – Chair: SK Brian Bialas

The combined Assembly 1505 and Council 4632 Fourth of July Picnic will begin at 10:30, lunch at 12:00, on July 4th at the Columbian Club Pavilion (behind the Columbian Club where we meet most months). Burgers and Dogs will be provided, families are expected to bring a dish to share. Cost of the event is free other than the pot-luck dish you bring and $3 for anyone who is not an immediate family member or part of the Assembly/Council 4362. Any help and assistance with setup and cleanup will be greatly appreciated. Games and door prizes will round out the afternoon.

FY20 Officer Installation – July 28th 2019

The combined Tidewater South Assembly Officer Installation will be hosted by Assembly #1162 once again, and will take place at Council 367, located at 5201 Kennebeck Ave, Norfolk, 23513. Showtime is 1:30pm for accountability and rehearsal, with Installation taking place at 2:00pm, followed by a reception. If you cannot attend this event you must find an alternate to stand in for you and let the incoming Navigator, PGK/FC Toby Robillard know at: [email protected]. It is a nice ceremony and your wife can bestow you with your jewel. Uniform will be the ORD if you have it, or a dark suit, plain white shirt with no button-down collars, black shoes, your PG-113 pin (the ONLY pin) on your lapel approx. 3” above your pocket, your nametag, and social baldric over your conservative tie.

‘ROUND THE TABLE

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.

Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be)
