THEARTISTSHokuPavaoJones(Director)isagraduateofBaldwinHighSchoolandtheAmericanMusical&DramaticAcademyinNewYorkCity.SincereturningtoMauitoperforminMAPA’sEducationalTheatretourshow,WeCallDemSlippahs,Hokuhasbeenseeninavarietyofroles(includingGigiinMissSaigonandJovieinElf).Inrecentyears,Hokuhasbranchedoutandbeguntodevelopherdirectingskillsaswell.Forthelast5years,shehasservedasMAPA’sFrontOfficeAdministrator&AcademyRegistrar.RecentlyHokuhastakenonanewandimportantroleintheorganizationasMAPA’sAssistantArtisticDirector.KathyCollins(Playwright&Actor)isanactress,storyteller,comedienne,emcee,radio&TVhost,MauiNewscolumnistandfreelancewriter.SheiseternallygratefultoSueAnnLoudonandtheBaldwinHighTheatreGuildforputtingthegreasepaintinherblood,over40yearsago,whilepresentingTheWizardofOzforhundredsofMauischoolchildren.Herpidgin-speakingalterego“Tita”performsthroughoutthestateandthemainland,sharingHawaiianlegendsandthespiritofAloha.KathyisdelightedtobepartofMAPA’seducationaltourofTheFishermanandhisWife.KahalaGreig(Composer,MusicalDirector&MeleMan)hasbeenplayingHawaiianmusicforover40years.InthefourthgradehewonapublicserviceannouncementcontestontheKMVIradiostationwithtwoofhisclassmates.Theyrecordedananti-smokingjinglethatwasplayedovertheradioandfromthenonhewashookedonmusic!PerformingHawaiianmusichastakenhimtoallthemajorHawaiianislandsaswellasCaliforniaandtheeastcoast.InhissparetimeheteachesmusictotheLahainalunaHawaiianaClubandBoarder’sChorustohelpthempreparefortheiryearlyDavidMaloDayHo’olaule’a.FrancisTaua(Actor)hasbeenadramateacher,director,writer,andtouringactorwithMAPAoffandonsince1989.HehasbeenpartofthedirectingteamofMAPA'schildren'ssummertheatreproductionssuchasTheHobbit,TheWiz,Aladdin,Honk,andNarnia.HeworkedfortheUtahShakespeareanFestivalfor4seasons,writingoriginalmaterialforTheGreenshow,TheRoyalFeastandseveralCompanyOriginalWorksCompetitionswhichwonhima"Bard"awardin1999whileattendingSouthernUtahUniversitystudyingDirectingandMusicalTheatre.ThisyearheparticipatedintheMauiFringeFestivalwithanOriginalworkentitledDream.SincereturninghometoHawaiihehasperformedinSouthPacific,Evita,Rent,TheMiracleWorker,InherittheWind,ManofLaMancha,TheHunchbackofNotreDame,TheElephantManaswellasco-writingandstarringinthewidelypopularLesserAhiandFresherAhi.BrettMarynnWulfson(Actor)isstokedtobeworkingwithMAPAagain,previouslybeingassistanttothedirectorforDisney’s101DalmatiansKids.CreativeDirector/HeadPhotographerfortheWulfPackCreativeTeam,shealsoiseducationalassistant/teacheratMauiOnStageandacounseloratCampCenterStage'syouthartscamps.YouthproductionsshehasassistedonMaui:Seussical,WillyWonkaAndTheChocolateFactory,PeterPan,AliceInWonderland,andTheTrialoftheBigBadWolf.

THEPRODUCTIONAdaptedbyKathyCollinsfromtheBrothersGrimmfairytale,withoriginalmusicbyKahalaGreig,TheFishermanandhisWifeisproducedbyMauiAcademyofPerformingArts(MAPA).TheproductionisdirectedbyMAPA’sAssistantArtisticDirectorHokuPavaoJoneswithsetdesignbyKristylGomesandcostumedesignbyVickyNelson.MAPA’sprofessionalcompanyofactorsisbasedinWailuku,Maui.THESTORYOnceuponatime,therelivedafishermanandhiswifewholivedneartheoceanontheislandofMaui.Everydaythefishermangoestohisfavoritefishingspottocatchfishfordinner.Thefishermanloveshissimplelife,buthiswifeisnotsohappy.Whilethefishermangoesfishingeveryday,shestayshometodothechores.Theirhousehasaleakyroofandabrokenfenceandthecupboardssqueak.Onedaythefishermancatchesanuluawhotalkstohim.Shetellsthefishermanthatshe’samagiculuaandifhe’llreleaseherbackintotheocean,she’llgranthimawish.Hetellsherhedoesn’tneedanything,sohereleasesherandrusheshometotellhiswife.Thewifedemandsthatthefishermanreturntotheoceanthenextdaytofindthatuluaandaskforabrandnewhouse.Thenextday,thefishermanreturnstotheoceanandfindsthemagiculuawhoagreestograntthewife’swishforanewhouse.Whenthefishermanreturnshome,hefindshiswifeinabigbeautifulhomeonafarmwithchickensandcows.Thenextmorningthewifeasksthefishermantofindthemagiculuaandaskforabiggerhousefitforamillionaire.Thefishgrantsthewishandthefishermanreturnshometofindamansionfilledwithpeopleworkinginthehouseandgarden.ButthisisnotenoughforthewifewhoasksherhusbandtofindthefishagainandmakehertheQueen.OfcoursethefishgrantsthatwishtooandthefishermanreturnshometofindthemansionhasbeenreplacedbyIolaniPalaceandhiswifeistheQueen.Thewifedecidesthatshe’sstillnothappyandnowshe’dliketobePele.Whenthefishermanasksthefishtograntthatwish,thefishtellshimtogohomebecausenowhiswifetrulyhaseverythingsheneedstobehappy.Whenthefishermanreturnshome,hefindshiswifeintheirsimplelittlehaleandtheylivehappilyeverafter.
