Machine tutorial classes are free to those who purchased their machine at Quilt ‘n Sew. There will be a fee for those who purchased their BabyLock or Janome machines elsewhere.

This year, 2008, we are trying something new. Machine tutorial classes will not be pre-scheduled. They will be scheduled on an “as needed basis.” Names will be compiled on a monthly basis, then you will be notified the following month of the date for your machine model’s class, and we will try to accommodate your preferred day and time.

Fees for classes for BabyLock and Janome machines not purchased qt Quilt ‘n Sew are as follows. Combo Embroidery/Sewing machines (any machine that has an embroidery module) $175 per 3-hour class

Level 2 Computerized machines (any machine that has an LCD screen that displays stitch, foot, tension, width, and other information.) $100 per 2-hour class

Level 1 Computerized machines (any machine that has a touch response with an LCD that only displays a number)

$125 per 2 hour class

Mechanical machines (any machine that is not run by a computer)

$75 per 2 hour class

Class sign-up begins July 2.

Exception: Sign up now for machine guide classes

and Beginning Quiltmaking classes.

We want our classes to make your projects successful.

Class registration is accepted only upon payment of class fee.

Because there is a minimum number of students required for

each class, early registration is very important. Class fees

generally do not include supplies unless stated in the class

description.

Store credit will be given for a student cancellation made

three full business days (seven days for painting classes)

before the scheduled class. Credit cannot be given for “no

shows” and teachers are not required to offer make-ups.

We try to schedule classes when time and interest

warrant, so let us know your special interests and convenient

times.

Please bring basic sewing supplies to every class. Sharp

scissors, pins, marking pencils, needles, thread, and specific

requirements for each class are important. Please bring an

iron and small ironing surface to class. Pick up the supply

list for your class before the first meeting!

Be sure your sewing machine is in good working order. If

it’s been a while since you had it serviced, perhaps this is a

good time to get a “once-over” for your machine before your

class. Please don’t expect the teacher to make machine

repairs; it’s not fair to the instructor or to the other students

in the class. Please be familiar with your machine—know

how to thread it, etc.

Please come 15 minutes early for your class. It’s

IMPORTANT that you be ready to start the class at the

scheduled time so that you can receive the instruction and

class time you have paid for. (Please arrive for your 6 PM

classes no earlier than 5:45 PM.)

Beyond the Basics “Boo”tiful Friends Wall Hanging Teacher: Jane Plisga One 3½-hour class This is a fun project to make for Halloween. This “ghost” is just too cute to resist. Perfect for a wall hanging OR could be made into a quilt by making other blocks and borders. Open to your imagination. Log cabin and courthouse step blocks are made with 1” strips of fabric. The sample shows all pieced blocks but it is possible to use 3” squares for the gray, which is the sky. That really cuts down on the number of blocks you need to make. In class you will be shown how to keep your ¼” seam consistent. A handout shows how each block is constructed and how many pieces of each size and color are needed. Sewing machine required. Friday, September 3, 1-4:30pm

$30 ———————————————— Glory Bound Teacher: Jennifer Thacker One 6-hourclass This is a great scrappy quilt for using up your stash or for a tall fat quarter bundle of dark and light print fabrics. To have even more variety, get with your quilting buddies and trade fabrics! The basic elements of this quilt are 2” and 4” finished half-square triangles combined with the contrast of light and dark

fabrics to create the over-all design. This is an easy quilt but also appeals to the experienced quilter who has an overflowing abundance of scraps. Sewing machine required. Thursday, July 29, 10am-4:30pm or Saturday, August 28, 10am-4:30pm

$40 ———————————————— “Haul It Baby” Teacher: Liz Broussard One 6-hour class For that toddler on the move, this car play mat will entice the wee one to have a seat and play. The handy handle on this floor mat just their size makes it easy for them to pick it up and haul it along. Great class for moms or grandmas for the little ones in their life!! Sewing machine required. Saturday, July 31, 10:30am-4:30pm or Thursday, August 12, 10:30am-3:30pm

$40 ———————————————— Judy Neimeyer’s Desert Sky Teacher: Jan Mathews Two 3-hour classes Judy Neimeyer has designed Desert Sky to teach the simplicity of foundation paper piecing. Come to class to experience this dramatic pattern and marvel at how easy it is to make. There is a

great trick to make the curved piecing as simple as the foundation piecing. This pattern is appropriate for the advanced beginner to the intermediate quilter. Lunch will be provided. Sewing machine required. Wednesday, July 14 & 21, 6-9pm

$80 ———————————————— One Block Wonders

Teacher: Martha DeLeonardis Two 3-hour classes Create a “WOW” quilt using just one fabric and one block. For less experienced quilters, creating a “One Block” is an opportunity to explore design while remaining in your comfort zone due to the parameters of this technique. Essentially, six repeats of fabric are layered and cut into strips. From these strips, triangles are cut and formed into hexagons. Once the placement of hexagons are determined (the design portion), the blocks are easily pieced together in strip form. Purchase of One

Block Wonder book is required. Sewing machine required. Thursdays, September 2 & 23, 6-9pm

$45

Night & Day Tablerunner Teacher: Delores Nelson Two 2-hour classes This neat little tablerunner is from Eleanor Burns’ book Night and Day. Inside the book is a ruler to help you learn a special technique to make this easy little tablerunner. Make one for yourself and more for your friends! Sewing machine required. Mondays, October 11 & 18, 1-3pm

$50 ————————————————

Stitch ‘n Sew Teachers: Diane Labunsky & Mindy Kossmann Bring your stitching and enjoy some time

with other quilters Monday, July 19 or Monday, August 16

or Monday, September 20 or Monday, October 18

————————————— UFO Sightings

Teacher: Liz Broussard One class Seen any UFO's lately? You know, those UnFinished Objects. Bring them out into the open and let's party with them! Are you stuck and need some help with a project or some advice on fabric/designs? Let me try to help you. Supper will be provided so that you can just work on them and visit with friends.

Please go through your projects to determine what is needed. If ironing is required, bring iron and ironing surface. Typically, you’ll need the sewing machine & its accoutrements, rotary cutting supplies, scissors, pins, thread. I'll have soup, bread, tea, and a dessert. You are welcome to bring goodies to share. Friday, August 13, 5pm-midnight

Quilt It Easily!

Teacher: Jane Plisga One 3-hour class Learn about using your walking foot to quilt individual squares and then how to assemble your quilt using sashing strips. I have just learned a simple way to attach the sashing strips and will share it with you. This is a technique/learning class, not a finished project class. Many people are not comfortable with free motion quilting OR wrestling with a larger quilt. This class will show how to make a design for your blocks, quilt with the walking foot and then assemble and have a quilt ready to use. When using sashing strips the front and back are usually very different. A hand-out and demonstration will explain how to do a two-color binding. Sewing machine required. Monday, September 13, 1-4pm

$30 ———————————————— Quilter’s Quarters Skirt Teacher: Peggy Worthington Two 2-hour classes This little girl’s gathered and ruffled skirt is a snap to make. All it takes is four fat quarters and waistband elastic, a little time, and voilà – a twirly skirt is made! We’ll rev up your sewing machine (and serger if you have one) and have some fun! Sewing machine required. (Serger optional.) Saturday, July 17 & Tuesday, July 27, 1-3pm

$40 ———————————————— The “Nie Nie” Twirly Skirt Teacher: Peggy Worthington Two 3-hour classes Ruffles, ruffles, and more ruffles! Six layers of ruffles attached to a comfy elastic waistband make for a wonderful twirly skirt. You can use your imagination as you pick out vibrant colors and patterns for your favorite girl’s skirt. This skirt can be stitched using a serger or your sewing machine. Sewing machine required (serger optional). Fridays, July 23, 1-4pm, & July 30, 1-3pm

Snow Days Starter

Teacher: Diane Labunsky & Mindy Kossmann One 3-hour class This class will help you get started on this beautiful & fun pieced quilt with stitchery blocks. This winter pattern from Crabapple Hill Studios has lots of children sledding, making snowmen, barns, houses, and winter hillsides for you to stitch. Come join us and let us help you get started. If you enjoy the stitchery on this quilt, come join our free stitching bee to complete your stitchery blocks. Sewing machine required. Tuesday, August 10, 1-3pm

$35 ———————————————— Spiral Table Runner

Teacher: Jane Plisga One 3½-hour class This is a different and unique project which will spice up the conversation at your table. Made using only 8 fat quarters – a good way to use up those co-coordinating sets that are filling

your stash or to buy more. Sample (red, white, blue) table runner was

made using 3 red prints, 2 light fabrics for transition and 3 blue prints. You could also use a fade

(transition) from light to dark fabric. Most anything goes!! It is important to cut the fabrics on the long (22”) side with a straight ruler. You will use a 9-degree wedge ruler in class to cut wedges, but there are no seams to match. The table runner goes together quickly. To complete the table runner you will stitch top, batting and backing together and then turn inside out. Quilting or tying is the last thing to do. Sewing machine required. Monday, July 12, 1-4:30pm

$25 ———————————————— Sweet Pea Manor

Teacher: Cynthia Regone Three 3½-hour classes This delightful row quilt is so much fun to make. In each session, we will piece blocks, learn the “soft-touch” method of fusible appliqué, how to paper-piece a roof, and much, much more. Look for a multi-colored striped fabric, mix in

coordinating prints, and you’ll have the right ingredients to make your own Sweet Pea Manor. Sewing machine required. Saturdays, August 21, September 18 & November 20, 1-4pm

$50 ———————————————— Thousand Pyramids

Teacher: Cynthia Regone One 6-hour class Join us for an evening of fun as we start to put together this sure-to-be “heirloom quilt.” The best part about this paper-piecing technique is that you are sewing on top of the paper. Bring an assortment of light & dark 4-5” squares. There will be a demo on making the ½” wide vine and fusible & freezer-paper appliqué. Bring a friend or two to share in this fun-filled evening. Sewing machine required. Friday, July 30, 6pm till ?
