THE ESCAPADE:

Adventure was the spirit of the times.

Many kings wanted to conquer the universe, and they sent forth brave men and women to

wander galaxies and setup colonies in their quest. Our own kingdom, Carcosa was ruled by the

King in Yellow who, after much deliberation and rubbing of his wizened grey beard, selected

three of the bravest souls he could find. The expedition party was setup to conquer the cosmos,

with the Mahindra Scorpio LX serving as the sailors’ trusted steed. It was no surprise, for it was

the most advanced and powerful carrier that had ever set sail over the high seas.

The kings of other lands prized and coveted their respective Scorpios. Such was the repute of the

machine that it was considered foolish to not have one. The ultimate symbol of the spirit of

adventure, the Scorpio was every King’s most treasured possession. The King in Yellow had

upped the ante, however, by bringing in his all - new Mahindra Scorpio LX which, with its

advanced features and superior technology, and muscular built, was an item on every King’s

bucket list.

As was inevitable, they had tried to steal the new and powerful LX many times from the Yellow

King but he did not let the machination out of his sight. It was surrounded by soldiers all through

the day and it was said that the king had received the Scorpio LX as a gift from the tree goddess

Yggdrasil for preventing her from being cut down by a demon some months ago.

The Scorpio LX had a powerful diesel engine called the mHawk, allowing it to slice through the

thickest of fogs, wade through the slushiest of swamps, sail in the most turbulent of waters and

fly undaunted in the severest storms. Its power steering had allowed the drivers to survive the

most dangerous of situations.

The Three Explorers of Carcosa had always been successful in their expeditions, and this time

too, they all returned battered, bruised, but nevertheless alive to recount their adventure to the



Yellow King. Among them was the King’s favorite Prince Samhain and he bore a tale of a

mysterious island planet.

The Mahindra Scorpio LX had reached the shore of an unknown land, after getting lost amongst

the constellations for many days. The planet was covered by mist and initially the Three

Explorers could not make out anything except a strange, eerie drone that was emanating all

around them. The look-out, Quequeg switched on the laser gun from the roof-top aerodynamic

ski-rack, and it slashed through the fog, enabling them to see the way forward.

The Mahindra Scorpio LX, hungry for adventure as always, growled and pounced forward.

Along the way, the Explorers of Carcosa sighted things never seen before, in all their travels:

opalescent mountains, a dying sun, rotting from worms that were eating at its core, an ancient

tree that was mutilating itself with its branches, a train that was being pulled forward through the

air by an exotic winged beast.

Spellbound, they moved across the planet, finally reaching a cave that was hidden behind a

waterfall.

Prince Samhain got down from the Scorpio and walked through the pools that had collected

beneath the waterfall. His two comrades started to follow him one by one. Just as they had

crossed the pools and were about to enter the cave, they realized that the Third Explorer, Lady

Maqbool was missing. They shouted her name but to no avail. The Explorers were nervous and

they wanted to go back but Samhain ordered his look-out, Quequeg to go out in search of her.

Prince Samhain entered the cave. He boldly went in and held his sword tightly by his side. As he

proceeded deeper and deeper into the cave, he observed strange symbols and engravings on its

walls. Every now and then, he encountered mysterious plants, which were growing in front of hiseyes in weird angles and awkward shapes. Finally, he saw a light glowing at the end of the cave.

As he approached the light, he saw a tall and slender woman sitting on a throne of made out of

human skulls.

Samhain wanted to draw out his blade, but the woman spoke first. “Who are you, and how did

you enter this cave?”

“I am Prince Samhain from the Kingdom of Carcosa and I am here on the orders of the Yellow

King.”

“What do you want?” says the queen

“I am here to conquer this planet” said Samhain.

“Well, if you want to rule over this land, you will have to complete three tasks.”

“What are they?” asked Samhain.



“You will have to rescue your friend from the tentacles of the Kraken that waits for you beneath

this waterfall. Then, you will have free your lookout Quequeg from the sky – dungeon, and

finally, you will have to escape, with your friends, from the belly of the Ouroborus.”

Just as the woman finished speaking, the prince turned and saw that he was all alone in the eerie

darkness. Then the woman told him “You have three hours to complete the task, or else yourskull will be the next to adorn my throne.”, so saying, she flew from the cave and was swallowed

into the night.

The Prince bounded out of the cave and took out the Digital Immobil iser and brought the

Scorpio back to life. He got in and dived into the pools. The Scorpio torpedoed in deep, and

soon, the Prince reached the lair of the Kraken.

He saw, to his utmost horror that Lady Maqbool was struggling to free herself from the tightly-

coiled tentacles of the Kraken. He quickly steered the Scorpio headlong into the body of the

Kraken. The Crumple Zones absorbed the impact of the collision, and the Kraken groaned and

doubled back on itself. The Prince used his sword to slice through its tentacles on by one, and

soon enough, Lady Maqbool was by his side, both of them, driving away quickly.

The Kraken however, started to follow them, relentless in its pursuit. Its remaining tentacles,

were all over the Scorpio. Prince Samhain used the Scorpio’s Radial Tubeless Tyres to slither

over the surface of the Kraken, freed himself, and finally burst out into the air away from the

pools and onto the land.

Prince Samhain checked the fuel in his tank. He still had enough to switch into flight mode and

pursue the next challenge. He manipulated the controls, and soon was flying into the sky heading

towards the sky - dungeon.

The sky - dungeon was a collection of huge blue fortresses, and the Prince saw Quequeg pinned

to the ground by a giant Mosquito Man. Prince Samhain drove straight ahead, and crashed into

the Mosquito Man. The bug reeled from the impact, and rolled over the windshield. Quequeg had

jumped into the side of the Scorpio, as soon as he was free. Samhain got down from the jeep and

cut down the Mosquito’s head with his sword. The Mosquito Man fell to the side, and the Prince

and Quequeg got into the jeep and flew out of the sky – dungeon, back to the land, where they

had their final task waiting.

There was just an hour left, and the Prince did not where the Ouroborus was. He looked all over

the island and was about to despair, when the tall and slender woman, of the throne of skulls,

mysteriously appeared in front of him and told him:

“You have done well so far. I will narrate a joke, and if you understand its punch-line, you will

be able to escape this island alive.”

“What is the joke?” demanded Prince Samhain.

“There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish

swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, "Morning, boys. How's the water?" And

the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and

goes, "What the hell is water?"

So saying, the lady flew off again. The Prince pondered over her words for a few minutes, and

racked his brains and observed his surroundings. Throughout his adventure on this mysterious

place, everything was out of the ordinary. He had seen them all- beasts, trains, sea monsters and

mosquito men. But one thing was common to the whole landscape. It was surrounded on both

sides by a never ending trail of slime. This membranous boundary had encapsulated the

mountains, the pools, and the sky, and then it hit him - he was in the belly of the Ouroborus all

along!



Quickly, he revved on the engine and the Scorpio lunged forward. Time was almost out. Only

ten minutes was left, and the island started trembling violently. The skies were lit up withlightning and thunder and cracks rapidly appeared on the ground. The Scorpio navigated through

the ever-forming cracks on the ground, and finally, the Prince saw an opening, through which he

could spot the stars of the universe beyond.

He muscled forward and rammed the accelerator. The Scorpio lunged out of the tongue of the

giant snake and plummeted towards Earth. The Prince crash - landed onto Earth, and saw that the

diesel was almost over. After getting stranded on a remote desert on planet Earth for many days,

he met a fellow countryman who helped ferry him to the kingdom of Carcosa.

“And today, I stand in front of Your Majesty, after seeing everything there is to see in this

universe.”

“You have done well Prince Samhain.”, said the Yellow King “But now I wish to tame the

Ouroborus and keep it as my plaything.”

His words were met with silent surprise. “And how are you planning to do that?” asked the

Prince.

“Speaking of playthings, did I show you this?” saying thus, the Yellow King pointed forward.

Prince Samhain turned around and gasped audibly.

Before him was a Scorpio, no doubt, but one which he had not seen before. An SUV with

powerful looks, including a deck, painted Fiery Black, the new Scorpio glinted back at Samhain,

almost mischievously, as he looked on in wonderment.

The Prince silently accepted the challenge, his heart beating with anticipation He got into the

vehicle. He ignited the engine, and set out on an all - new adventure once again.
