Druids were seeking revenge for a defeat

at the Rock in the League Cup by the

visitors on Friday night and had the

match sewn up by half time. Druids

opened the scoring through Dave Forbes

on 7 minutes who tucked the ball home

after the Conwy keeper spilled the ball.

Conwy got back in the game on 19

minutes when former Druid Ricky Evans

converted an innocuous free kick from 20

yards. The best goal of the game came on

26 minutes when Naim Arsan scored his

first goal for the club when he beat two

men on the left, cut inside and curled a

great ball into the top right hand corner of

the net. Dave Forbes added his second

and Druids third on 26 minutes which

virtually sealed the game.

Conwy put up a better fight in the second

half and only poor finishing by Druids

kept them in the game. Conwy were re-

duced to 10 men late on and that killed

any hope they had of getting anything

from the game. The result meant Druids

moved back to the top of the league, if

only overnight.

ACADEMY RESULTS

Our under 15's hosted Bangor City to-day in what turned out to be an exciting game of football to watch for both sets of on looking parents. Bangor started the brighter of the two teams going ahead after 15 minutes, the goal seemed to kick start our 15's and soon got back into the game leveling through the lively Harry Jones. Second half was a similar story to the first, both teams playing some excellent counter at-tacking football but a lack of concentra-tion allowed Bangor to go 2-1 up after 60 mintues, again Cefn Druids came back playing good possession football and cre-ated a number of chances to get something out of the game. Coaches Phil Bathers and Josh Millington praised the squad of play-ers saying " the game could of ended in any type of scoreline it was that sort of match, but credit to both sets of players today playing to their clubs philosophies and playing football the correct way".

U15’s

U16’s

. Another brilliant win for the U16 team against Newtown; Druids had a very depleted squad of players due to injuries. Druids battled hard and after 30 minutes took the lead with a goal from Rhys Powell. IN the second half Druids upped their attacking play but were unlucky not to score following some excellent saves from the New-town goalkeeper. Final score 1-0.

U14’s

Cefn Druids U14's won there game 1-0. Druids Dominated most of the match and created many attacking opportunities without really conceding many goal scoring chances for the home team. On the couple of times the home team did get a chance at goal they where stooped by some very good Goal keeping by James Colley and a superb Goal line Clearance from centre back Joe Hum-phreys.

U12’s

Druids moved the ball well throughout the team and played with good energy and confidence and had large mounts of possession but struggled to find a break through in the final 3rd. Tom Wil-liams came close in the first half by hitting the crossbar after a fast attacking move. The second half was more of the same and Jack Walters made the Goalkeeper pull off an amazing save having volleyed from 10 yards. Even though it looked like it was not going to be Druids day the boys kept their shape, effort and belief to score in the last seconds to take the points. Again a fast attacking move was chased down by Harvey Edwards who pulled the ball back for Tom Edwards to calmly place the ball into the opposite corner with his weaker foot to take all 3 points. A very positive performance.

HUWS GRAY ALLIANCE HISTORY Part 12

2001-02 (Continued from previous issues)

Whilst Caernarfon Town made a quick return to the League of Wales, there was no demo-

tion from the Cymru Alliance, because no northern club was demoted from the top flight in

2001/02, whilst Anglesey rivals Glantraeth and Llangefni Town merged their resources to

form a single club.

With the league already one short of its full complement, the Cymru Alliance welcomed

Gresford Athletic, Guilsfield and Llanfairpwll on promotion from the 3 feeder competi-

tions.

Unusually, Guilsfield were elevated despite not finishing in the top two of the Mid Wales

League, as this competition did not complete its fixtures due to the impact of foot-and-

mouth.

After concluding the first half of their fixture list, Welshpool headed the table, after going

close in the previous two campaigns. Llangefni-Glantraeth were just 4 points behind the

mid Wales club, despite playing two more games, whilst Porthmadog and Ruthin Town

were handily placed with a game in hand on the leaders. As the campaign moved into the

spring, Welshpool Town maintained their drive towards the championship with their nearest

rivals being the Ynys Mon duo of Llangefni-Glantraeth and Cemaes Bay .

At the conclusion of the season, the Lilywhites landed their first Cymru Alliance title by a 5

point margin over Llangefni-Glantraeth and with just four league defeats throughout the

campaign. Cemaes Bay held on for third place, for a second time in three seasons, from

Porthmadog and Buckley Town , who appeared to be a club that was ‘on the up'.

The Maesydre outfit completed a double when they lifted the Central Wales Challenge Cup

for a fourth successive time, with victory over Mid Wales League opponents Kerry in the

final. Welshpool managed to reach the quarter finals of the Welsh Cup before bowing out 4-

0 to the Flexsys Cefn Druids team that had overcome Halkyn United in the previous round.

Elswhere Cemaes Bay ended the 2001/02 season by lifting the league cup with victory over

Ruthin Town in the final. The Parc-y-Dre outfit also lost to Buckley Town in the final of the

NE Wales Challenge Cup
