Thank you! Unto the Fair Populace of the Glorious Barony of Vatavia, do Lady Murasaki and
I, Lady Deirdre, send our most Thankful Greetings...
Midwinter: A Festival of the Garden of Love and Beauty has come and gone, and
despite a few last minute hiccups, was a resounding success, due in no small part,
to all of you!!
You all helped create a fun event with a wonderful twist on the original theme,
you rolled with the punches at a new site and it was Everything We Dreamed!!
Our most grateful thanks for everything our staff did before and during the event,
and all their volunteers... the fighting was Glorious, the archery was Extraordi-
nary, the feast was Unforgettable, the ball was Inspiring and the A&S and Bardic
were Shining Examples of Vatavian Creativity!
A HUGE thank you to the following gentles:
Kitchen: Robert Steven MacLaren, Elizabeth Anne Draper, Bess, Grayce, Ida,
Lenny, Brient, Ysabeau le Normandie, Brian Dugan.

Unto the populace of Vatavia, from Their Excellencies,
Welcome to the Dragonflyer- online! We hope you are as excited about
this change as we are. Many thanks to our fabulous chronicler Lady Mu-
rasaki and webmistress HL Sung for handling this changeover so very
smoothly.
We hope everyone had a great time at Midwinter. Many thanks to Lady
Deidra and her staff for spearheading this event.
Finally, on to the serious news. As you have probably heard, the SCA re-
cently settled a lawsuit. Vatavia has already sent in our payment of $2,231-
slightly more than the 18% requested by the Kingdom. This means that,
while we are still in a fairly comfortable financial position, we will need to
delay some of the planned baronial improvement projects to make sure we
have enough cash on hand to hold our events. We wish to reiterate what
Lady Catlin has said- we as a Barony should consider ways we can raise
funds for use by both the Barony and by the Kingdom.
On this note, we are still in desperate need of autocrats for the fall and
spring RenFaires. If you are interested, please let us and Lady Catlin know
as soon as possible. Also, if you are considering putting in a Valor bid,
please do so no later than the March officers’ meeting.

will help meet these replacement projects.

Incoming A &S Minister
Greetings unto the wonderful Populace of Vatavia:
I would like to introduce myself to those who do not yet know me, and to
those who do (I am sorry =) ).
My name is Lord Brient McQuane (MKA: Brian Kilmer). I have been in-
volved in the SCA off and on for the past 20 years. Arriving from Indiana a
year ago for my job, I am honored to call myself a Vatavian.
Since I have dabbled in various arts and sciences over the years, I have
been asked to step up as your new A&S Minister. Lady Sorcha, although
being of small frame, has left big shoes to fill. My only hope is that I can
continue to help encourage the growth of the arts and sciences. With your
help, I know we can make her proud.
Yours in humble service,
Lord Brient McQuane
