OVER 80,000 YOUNG PEOPLE WILL EXPERIENCE HOMELESSNESS ACROSS THE UK THIS YEAR. Having nowhere that’s safe, secure or affordable to live shuts all the options we take for granted right down. A college course, an apprenticeship, a job – they’re all impossible without a safe place to live.

But as part of RICS’ Pledge150 campaign, with RICS professionals across the country, and with LandAid, you are already making a difference.

Here, in Wales, your fundraising will support one carefully chosen project. It will support young people into new homes and give them the tools they need to realise a brighter future.

WHO YOUR MONEY HELPSDan has received a wide range of support from The Wallich to help him get his life back on track and secure a place of his own. The charity helped him improve his physical health and hygiene and provided him with mental health support.

Dan has also worked with his support worker, Tracey, who is helping him achieve his life goals, get involved in community sport and develop the skills needed to live independently.

Dan is now looking to settle down in a new place, where he can secure a good job and provide for his child. He knows that The Wallich will continue to support him.

Dan says: “It’s been a long journey, but I know now that I’m out the other side and I’m much happier now.”

How LandAid awards grantsLandAid invited charities from across the country working with young people who are homeless to apply for funding to provide homes as part of the RICS Pledge150 campaign. Each charity is rigorously assessed and if their application meets LandAid’s criteria, then their application is reviewed by LandAid’s independent Grants Committee, who makes a provisional grant award. Once Pledge150 has raised the money, the charity can be awarded their grant.

Creating tailored projects, which address a range of complex-needs, is essential to tackling youth homelessness in Wales. By providing specific projects, we can work closer and more successfully with vulnerable young adults to get them off the streets, keep them off the streets and create opportunities for their future.Sophie Haworth-Booth, Area Manager for North and Mid Wales at The Wallich
