What About Accountability?

The shift in accountability :• The new measurement of student success for K-12… college going

rates without the need for remediation.• CSU Executive Order 1048 (Early Start Program)… beginning in

summer of 2012, incoming freshman who have not demonstrated proficiency, required to begin remediation prior to term of admission.

• Higher Education Act (HEOA)… graduation and transfer rates for community colleges (only 29% who attend receive certificate, degree or transfer).

What does it mean for us?

TO

From role of K-12 education from accumulation of credits and passing the CAHSEE for high school graduation…

College-going rates w/o need for remediation… from standards proficiency to preparedness for the next level of learning.

Shifting classroom instruction toward a simple question: How do

learning experiences develop students’ ability to solve real-world,

standards-based problems using rigorous academic language and

higher order skills with precision and accuracy?
