Service Sunday—March 30

There will be one Worship Service at 10:00 am. After the worship ser-vice you are encouraged to join us in an array of service projects. This is a great way to meet others, to fellowship, and to serve all at the same time.

There is a project for all ages and abilities. The project descriptions are below. You are able to sign up online at the website (www.salemfcc.org) by clicking on FCC Life or by signing up on the board located at the Information Center.

It is our day to cele- brate the ministry of Allison Pfaff with this congregation. It be- gins with a combined worship at 10:00 am. We have some great music and special surprises you will all enjoy. And then, what better way to celebrate Allison’s ministry than by doing ministry in our community.

Refer to the front cover for more information on those opportunities. We have tried to give enough variety to people of all ages and abilities to have an opportunity to serve.

At 1:00 pm, we will gather back in the Fellowship Hall for a meal and celebration of Allison’s 70th Birthday and Retirement.

Children and Youth A Little Light from Laurie It started innocently enough, a simple challenge issued to our children: bring snacks for our hungry neighbors. For the month of February, the kids and I talked about loving others, showing kindness, pictur-ing Jesus in the face of others, and remembering that God created each and every one of us. The challenge of giving to others was met with wonderful boxes of snack crackers, portion-sized packets of chicken, tuna, fruit cups and bottled water. What an amazing church family we have! I am so proud of our kids, and I love seeing their faces as they bring in their gifts. I have to say, though, the best part is handing a snack out to a hungry person knowing it came from the loving hands of our children.

Whether snacks, offering or kindness, when our kids are taught that giving to others is like giving to Jesus and is more important than giving to ourselves, what a difference they will make on this world! Thank you for the donations!

For these next several weeks before Easter, we will be talking a lot about Spiritual Practices as we strive to walk closer with Jesus. As Sunday school teachers, we may only get about an hour a week with your kids, but you get them every day. You are their most important spiritual teacher. Talk to them and let them ask their questions. Each child in the 1st-5th grade class has a Lenten calendar and a place for them to write down their Lenten promise. If they have been to Children’s Church, talk to them about their promises and encourage them. A Lenten Promise is a spiritual practice that helps us have a closer relationship with Jesus.

Flowers are bursting. Trees are blooming, IT’S SPRING! Take time to enjoy everything God has created.

Ramblings from Riane I am sure most of us can recall the story in John 13:2-20 where Jesus was a servant to his disciples and washed each of their feet after their meal together. Jesus wrapped a towel around his waist as a servant would have done. He, who was God in flesh, hum-bled himself before others to serve them. While there is great symbolism and powerful messages portrayed in this simple act, we discussed as a youth group the selfless servitude that Jesus demonstrated. We prac-ticed serving others in class and committed to focus on serving others during the week. We as Christians should be willing to serve in any way that glorifies God. A selfless act of servitude may come easy to some, but to others it can be a challenge. It is all about God’s timing, not ours. It is said that we are never more like Christ than when we serve others.

This week a group of dedicated individuals will be glorifying God through their service in Mexico. May we pray for their safe travels as well as the lives they will touch and be touched by while serving others in the name of Jesus.

Things to Know and Do OH, YOU BEAUTIFUL DOLL… A Doll Style Show and Luncheon

Dolls of many styles and time-frames will be shown; memories and stories shared. We will have special music (about dolls, of course!) and a delicious light luncheon.

WE NEED YOUR HELP: If you have a special doll you would like to loan, please pick up a sign-up card at the Information Center or from your CWF group leader, fill it out and turn it in to Anna Russell by April 1. Dolls on loan will need to be brought to the Fellowship Hall Friday before the event (May 2).

Tickets are $6 each and will be available starting Sunday, April 6.

A Word from the Board of Trustees FCC Friends and Family, I wanted to write a quick note updating you all on the status of the Morgan building rented by the Oregon State Department of Energy. As you may recall, in July 2013, we began renting directly to the Depart-ment of Energy without an intermediary. At that time we employed Dalke Property Management to oversee the property for us. They take care of all of the day to day needs of a commercial property. Included in the management is the overseeing of the parking lot and maintaining the agreements with each of the peo-ple who pay to park there. Historically, FCC did not receive a portion of that parking revenue. That is new money for us.

For some time now, we have been in negotiations with the State Department of Administrative Services to create a new lease for the building. After much deliberation, we did arrive at an acceptable document and that was signed in mid February. Unfortunately, the State has opted not to enter into a long-term lease, with the terms only extending until October 31, 2014. They are making arrangements for the Department of Energy to move into the renovated building that used to be occupied by Sears, a few blocks away.

With that, we are and will be working with a leasing agent to bring a new tenant into the facility as soon after Department of Energy departs as is physically possible. We understand that with the age of the building, there will be necessary improvements that will need to be done before a new tenant can be se-cured.

We have greatly appreciated the relationship that we have had with the Department of Energy and wish them nothing but continued success in their new fa-cility. I am confident that with God’s blessing the new tenant that we secure will bring us an equally positive relationship. I am excited to see the new things that will be presented to us in the years to come.

Mission to Ecuador Information The mission trip dates are July 10 - 22. We will again be working through FEDICE, a local mission organization.

In the past we assisted them in building a church, classrooms, community buildings and a

childcare center. They have a children’s Bible study on each of the trips. The work can be varied and scaled to meet any person’s skill or physical needs.

The indigenous people do all the leading and skilled work. We are there to assist them as needed. Mis-sion trips usually include trips to visit projects we have sponsored in the past (such as chicken, sheep and other livestock projects).
