Jennifer and I just celebrated five years of marriage. Be- cause we had a very short honeymoon, we viewed our recent trip to Scotland and England as our honeymoon and anniversary present to ourselves. This Sunday, we will celebrate another important anniversary. Rev. Stan McDougal celebrates the Fortieth Anniversary of his Ordination to Christian Ministry on Monday, June 10, 2013. On Sunday, we will celebrate with him. Stan grew up in First Christian Church. He was a Cradle Roll baby. He worked his way through every children’s Sun- day School Class. CHI RHO and CYF followed. After getting his college degree at Transylvania University, Stan went on to Lexington Theological Seminary as a “Timothy” of First Christian, and was ordained in our historic Sanctuary. The Pastorate is both a glorious and difficult calling. Hours are spent alone, contemplating and preparing to bring a “good word” each week to those who gather to worship. Hours are spent in meetings; plan- ning, processing, evaluating and celebrating. Hours are spent with people: in the hospital, in the home, across a table breaking bread. There are calls in the middle of the night that seldom bring good news. There are weddings to officiate and funerals to remember. To start a couple on their committed adventure and to say words of comfort and remembrance to those who have lost their loved one are both honors and privileges unique to our sacred calling. Life intrudes each and every day and it is a wonderful gift to be invited to share life with those who are entrusted to our care. Can you imagine it? Stan has likely preached over two thousand ser- mons. I can not guess the number of funerals and weddings. He has held thousands of hands and sent up even more prayers for healing and peace. Forty years. He is coming home to share this celebration with us. His own church, Parkview Christian Church in Little Rock, is allowing us to be his family once more. I have had the privilege to get to know Stan as he came home to care for his mother, Kathleen McDougal. A few months ago, as we cele- brated her “homegoing,” I invited Stan to come home, preach in our historic pulpit and share this celebration with us. He was both thrilled and honored. I hope you will come to worship this week at either the 8:30 or 10:45 services to hear Stan preach. There will also be a re- ception for Stan and his family beginning at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Join us in saying, “Well done! Good and faithful servant.” DR. OPSATA’S OPUS Graduation Day June 8, 1973 Ordination Day June 10, 1973

THE CHRISTIAN MESSENGER

Anniversaries are important. Jennifer and I just celebrated five years of marriage. Be-

cause we had a very short honeymoon, we viewed our recent trip to Scotland and England as our honeymoon and anniversary present to ourselves. He worked his way through every children’s Sun-day School Class. Hours are spent in meetings; plan-ning, processing, evaluating and celebrating.

Stan has likely preached over two thousand ser-mons. A few months ago, as we cele-brated her “homegoing,” I invited Stan to come home, preach in our historic pulpit and share this celebration with us. He was both thrilled and honored. I hope you will come to worship this week at either the 8:30 or 10:45 services to hear Stan preach. There will also be a re-ception for Stan and his family beginning at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Join us in saying, “Well done! Good and faithful servant.”
