ARE WE EVER NOT BUSY? Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him. (Psalm 62:5).

May is a busy month. This year it kicks off at church with confirmation. (This doesn’t affect everyone directly – although it does impact the future of this congregation, so please pray for our confirmands and all our young members.) The busyness continues with Mother’s Day on May 8th. Old Fashioned Day is May 14th. That also begins graduation season for many, as some colleges and universities have graduation that day, and the graduations continue into June.

Speaking of June, summer leagues begin for youth and adult athletics. Vacation season begins for many, whether it’s a planned journey for a week or more, or an every-weekend get-away that lasts through most of the summer. Then there are the various summer family and friends get-togethers, whether for the 4th of July, or a wedding (or 3), or a reunion, or whatever.

And, of course, it’s not long and planning for the fall begins, shopping for school clothes and supplies, maybe getting a jump on getting the fall sports schedules on the calendar. There are concerts and other events to plan for, too. Once school actually begins, while parents are usually ready for kids to go back, it is the start of another busy season. Before you know it, you’re planning for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And on and on it goes.

Is there ever a slow season for us anymore? We pack our lives with work, with obligations beyond family, with recreation, and all this besides what is or used to be considered regular, normal things. Is this why some people look forward to retirement, because until then life is constant ac-tivity, eternal busyness? Does this constant busyness have an impact on the state of marriage and family in our country?

It’s not my intention to address such important questions with this article. Nor is my purpose to make a moral judgment on your life. I only want us to see again―and always―that we have need for rest, not merely for our bodies but especially for our souls. This spiritual rest is only found in Je-sus, because only in Jesus is there hope, peace, and security in this life and beyond. And while we always need the rest Jesus gives, the equa-tion we need to remember and put into practice is this: The busier we are, the greater our need to make time for Jesus.

My dear brothers and sisters, as the psalmist says, rest in God alone. Your hope comes from him, the one who loves you more than anyone ever could, the one who gave his life for you, the one who has promised you his forgiveness, his presence, his care, and his glory forever.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you! (1 Corinthians 16:23)

As we look to May, we see the school year coming to a close. Of course, we do not close on our

continued studying of God’s Word! We begin the month with our eighth graders being con-

firmed, students in grades 4-8 have the opportunity to compete in the track meet hosted by Lu-

ther High School in Onalaska, classrooms will take their final field trips, and we say farewell to

our graduating class of eighth graders. The faculty is now beginning to take stock of our own

performances and consider the year that our students or we have had while doing evaluations of

those students and ourselves. Having begun in September, we look forward to the conclusion of

a ton of hard work for students who have visibly changed during our time together. Students

begin to talk about basketball camp or another summer program, and faculty looks toward a

time when the pace will downshift to address other priorities. As the Book of Ecclesiastes re-

minds us, there is a time for everything. The students, faculty, and staff ask for your continued

prayers that God continues to strengthen us and sees us through to the end of the school year,

and into the summer months.

Incentive Programs Update

LABELS FOR EDUCATION (Campbell’s soup, etc.) is quitting

their program at the end of this school year. Please send all labels to the school by May 15 so they can be sorted and mailed in by June 1. We need the UPC (Universal Prod-uct Code) with the label that tells if it is for one point or five points next to it, not the front of the label. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION (Betty Crocker, etc.) is continuing

their program. These labels have expiration dates and we have many that expire June 1, so we would like to send in as many as we have in by the end of May. KWIK TRIP is continuing with the

program for milk caps and labels. Please send clean milk caps and labels to the school. We are check-ing if they are continuing with the Glazer donut price oval and ice cream UPCs. For now, send them to the school. . RECENTLY we took pop cans and

tabs to Runick’s and received $98.28 for cans and $19.58 for tabs. Cans should be put in the lean-to at the end of Pastor’s garage and tabs can be given to the school. CASH REGISTER RECEIPTS from

Viking Village are also collected. They must be dated within one year. We recently took receipts in and will receive $84.98 (1% of the subtotal).

FESTIVAL FOODS, through the

Burnstad Foundation, donates mon-ey to the school every year. We do not need to collect anything from them; just know that they are sup-porting us. THANK YOU to everyone who has

collected for our incentive programs and everyone who has helped with the sorting, counting and organizing of the labels. Please keep saving

and sending them to the school.
