To those who sold doves he said, “Take these out of here, and stop
making my Father's house a marketplace.” His disciples recalled the
words of Scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me. — Jn 2:16-17

Dear Saint Michael Parishioners, The Saint Michael School Parent Association is preparing for our 6th An-nual Dinner and Auction fundraising event. The event is planned for March 7th, 2015. Although March 2015 appears to be in the distant fu-ture, our past event experiences teach us that we have to prepare now. In addition to contacting community and business members to request many levels of support, we have an important request to ask each of you. We want to include a number of higher value items in our upcoming auction as well as to assist with costs related to the dinner, and mar-keting literature. We are asking each Saint Michael Parishioner to consid-er donating $10.00 towards our Dinner & Auction or whatever contribu-tion you are able to offer. Last year our Saint Michael School Dinner & Auction generated about $25K dollars for the benefit of the school, and your generous donations greatly impacted the success of our event. The fundraising events that we sponsor contribute to various programs in our school such as French classes for our students and Discover the Arts Day program among many others. Our school is an important part of our Parish Community. Each fundraising event helps to ensure that our ad-ministrators, faculty and students are provided with the tools that are needed to teach and to learn all the while controlling our cost and cre-ating a fun learning environment for our children. We’ll be back in contact to remind you of our event as the date ap-proaches. Thank you in advance for your generous support. Saint Michael School Parent Association. Checks can be made payable to: Saint Michael School. We are asking for all donations to be sent by Dec. 13, 2014 so that we can prepare for the auction. Donations should be mailed to:

St. Michael Parish 4 November 9, 2014
What is the difference between Chapels,
Churches, Cathedrals, and Basilicas?? Your basic church takes its cue from the Greek origins of the word assembly and also the phrase “belonging to the Lord.” If a building is consecrated to assemble the faithful for worship, and if the building is therefore a “house of God,” then it’s a church.
A cathedral is the particular church in which the bishop pre-sides over worship and over the diocese at large. Historically, cathedrals were grand works of art that took centuries to build. The cathedrals of Europe were vibrant centers of urban life and learning.
Basilicas were originally official buildings of the Roman Empire; the Greek word means “king’s hall.” When Christians acquired these buildings they were appropriated for Christ the King. These historical structures include four major basilicas of Rome: St. John Lateran, St. Peter’s, St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, and St. Mary Major. Minor basilicas continue to be named; at present more than 1,500 basilicas exist.
Chapels (sometimes called oratories) serve specific popula-tions. Folks stuck in airports appreciate the terminal chapel; prisons, hospitals, schools, convents, and religious houses also have chapels. Each bishop has the right to an oratory in his residence, and some churches have a smaller chapel attached for daily use.

RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION MONTH The month of November is designated as Reli-
gious Education Month and is celebrated
throughout New England. For the month of
November our Faith Formation of St. Michael
Parish will focus on the sacrament of Reconcil-
iation. The theme is God’s Gift of Forgiveness. God’s gift of
forgiveness cannot be earned it is offered by God’s grace. As a
gift from God, receptivity and openness on our part are neces-
sary to receive it. Once we accept God’s gift of forgiveness we
are invited, led and begin to see what was invisible without the
gift of faith.
Please keep all our St. Michael Parish Faith Formation and St.
Michael School children in your prayers as they continue to
learn more about God’s unconditional love that is always with
them on their life-long journey of faith.
BOOK OF THE NAMES OF THE DEAD At each of our churches of St. Michael Parish we will have displayed a Book of the Names of the Dead for the month of November. Please take some time to write the names of loved ones in the book who have gone before us as we pray for all those people this month.
