Grieving a Loved One? If you, or someone you know, are grieving the loss of a loved one, no matter when the loss occurred, know that our Parish is offering a bereavement support group. The group will meet in the Cate-chetical Center at 15 Webster Av, at 11:30 on six (6) Tuesday mornings, beginning March 7th. Come and experience the support of others who are on the same journey through grief. If interest-ed, please take that first step and call the rectory at 718-727-2672 and leave a message for the facilita-tor.

The sanctuary candle burns at Assumption Church this week in loving memory of Louis Rossi offered by Minnie Picciocco.

Miércoles de Ceniza

El 1 de marzo, 2017 comienza nuestro viaje cuaresmal.

Horario de Miercoles de Ceniza: 7:00 a.m. Misa St. Peter 9:00 a.m.

(Espanol)

Ash Wednesday March 1, 2017 begins our Lenten journey.

Ash Wednesday Schedule:

7:00 a.m. Mass St. Peter 9:00 a.m. Mass Assumption 12 Noon Prayer Service St. Peter 3:00 p.m. Prayer Service St. Peter 7:30 p.m. Mass Assumption Ashes will be imposed only during Mass and during the Prayer Services. Children who have not yet received the Sacrament of Reconciliation should not receive ashes because of their limited sense of personal sin.

Lenten Regulations

During the season of Lent, the Church urges all the faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily life through performing acts of fast and abstinence. “Fasting” requires that only one full meal be taken per day. Two other smaller meals are to be taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but these two meals together should not equal a full meal in quantity. Fasting obliges all those who have reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige until age 59. Those not spe-cifically obliged to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent that they are able. “Abstinence” prohibits individuals from eating meat on a particular day. Abstinence obliges all those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to oblige throughout their entire life. Those not specifically obliged to abstain from eating meat are encouraged to join in this discipline to the extent that they are able. ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY are days of fast and abstinence. FRIDAYS in Lent are days of abstinence. If you have a loved one who is homebound, you are permit-ted to bring ashes to them on Ash Wednesday. You may come to the sacristy after any Mass that day and pick up the ashes and the Prayer Service for you to follow.

Stations of the Cross Stations of the Cross will be prayed: • Fridays at 6 p.m. at St. Peter Church

(English) • Fridays at 7 p.m. at Assumption Church

(Spanish)

Pantry Update!

Our Parish Pantry is in the process of relocating from the basement of 145 Clinton Avenue to the basement of the rectory at 53 St. Mark’s Place. Beginning in March, the pantry could be operation-al again but nothing can happen without support. If you are looking for a Lenten project, are retired, feel called or need to fill a void in your life, please consider offering an hour or two each week. We need helping hands to shop, sort, shelve, pack and personally distribute the food to those who partici-pate. If you have computer skills, we can put them to good use, too! If you are able to pitch in, please see Margaret Moschetto or call the rectory and leave a message for her. Many, many thanks!! The sympathy of the parish is extended to the families Gaetano Napolitano, Jean Spinelli, Msgr. Thomas Scanlon, Marilyn Dorato, Nancy Miceli, and Evelyn Kozlowski.
