I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the Blakehurst community since my appointment as Assistant Principal in Term 2. I have been extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to relieve this year as it has allowed me to become a welcomed member of our school in a short period of time. So much has happened this year from the major changes to the leadership team, Positive Behaviour for Learning and everything in between. All of these positive changes have been made possible due to us all working together as a cohesive team. It is exciting to think we have our new Principal, Cameron Smyth- Gapps, and a new Assistant Principal starting at the beginning of 2019. I cannot wait to see even more positive progress throughout the coming years. A big thank you to our P&C who work tirelessly to make this school one to be proud of. They give up so much of their time and energy. Please feel free to join our wonderful P&C and I know for a fact they will welcome you with open arms. I would also like to thank our beautiful students who represent our school with pride. Teachers have reported to me on numerous occasions that visitors to our school as well as people externally have complimented our students on their respectful and high standard of behaviour. We are also extremely fortunate to have a dedicated and hard-working group of teachers at Blakehurst who put the students at the fore of everything they do. They have received all of the changes this year with a positive attitude and have displayed a thirst for more knowledge, encapsulating the true meaning of being ‘lifelong learners’. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and please stay safe during the festive season. Blakehurst Bites News

THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our P&C run canteen throughout 2018 and to all the amazing people who were able to volunteer their time by helping out. Without you we could do not do half of what we do. Also Big Thanks are due to all the families and staff who have supported our school canteen this year, by choosing to order lunch, or purchase recess snacks. Your on-going support is very much appreciated and needed.

In our recent survey about the school canteen, and again thanks to all of those who took the time to complete this. What showed through in the results was that a majority of families, wanted healthy homemade foods available for their children. In our student survey there was an astounding 80% who responded that healthy food was important to them. We are listening, and we like what we hear.

So there are some very exciting changes ahead for our school canteen, we have been working with a not for profit charity - The School Food Project. A major part of this is the introduction of a new canteen menu that goes beyond the guidelines to provide tasty, nutritious meals and snacks. We have trialled some of the new recipes with our students and so far feedback has been very positive.

There will need to be some small price increases with the new menu. This is for a number of reasons: the current prices do not cover the required expenses and allowances, the increased use of fresh ingredients cooked onsite means the nutritional value of the food will be higher with a slight cost increase. We have worked hard, with the support of the School Food Project, to keep any increases minimal. If you have any questions about this or our new menu, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are also hoping to offer our canteen service for 5 days a week next year. In order to achieve this we will need more volunteers to offer some of their time. This can be for just one hour, or a day, per week, per month or once a term. If you are able to help out in any capacity, whether it’s one off or regular days, we need you. In order for our canteen to be the best it possibly can, we need your help. We offer tea, coffee, lunch, friendships, and best of all, the biggest smiles from our students, especially your children when they see you here at school. Simply complete the canteen volunteer form, hand in to the front office and we will be in touch.

We really appreciate your support with this, without parent and community support our canteen simply would not be able to function.

P & C News

Thank you everyone who braved the threats of thunderstorms and torrential rain, and came along to the Family Christmas Night. Thanks to all those who purchased raffle tickets both in advance and on the night. We are so very lucky to have so many generous supporters, and we would like to ask you, in turn to remember to support them.
