DESCRIPTION
The Bubble - 11/12, Term 2, Week 2
Citation preview
New Year’s resolutions are probably abandoned by now and you are returning to a pattern of going out, not sleeping (unless in lectures) and eating takeaways. In an alarming development, lecturers are insisting that you ‘work’ and ‘study’. Thankfully, there’ll be loads of stuff going on to assist you in your procrastination aside from Facebook. We have some exciting themed weeks coming up including: One World Week, Go Green and International Women’s Week, not to mention the annual Varsity Sports tournament with Cov Uni (we’re 20 plus 1 years undefeated!)
Starting on Monday of Week 3, One World Week will be putting on a series of awesome events to celebrate and introduce us to a whole host of cultures. From club nights and sports competitions to forums, talks and discussions, there’s something for every student, regardless of their nationality. Make sure you come down to the SU and get involved - you’d be nuts to miss it!
Hope you have a great Term 2 and don’t forget to join a society if you missed Refreshers Fair – it’s the best way to make the most of your University experience!

one world week 2012
One World Week is the biggest student-run international festival anywhere in the world. Held annually on campus, it’s a unique and vibrant celebration of the different cultures, nationalities, identities and voices which make up the Warwick community.
Throughout Week 3, campus will truly come alive as the OWW Team hosts a wide range of events designed to get you talking, interacting and participating. The OWW Forum holds an array of talks, discussions and debates on key global issues, while their Sports programme offers up tournaments and competitions for you and your friends to get involved in. Meanwhile, the Nights team will take over the SU and Arts Centre to bring you jaw-dropping events like Bustamove, Sensasian, the OWW Fashion Show and, of course, the spectacular World Party!
In addition, the OWW Festival brings together the Union’s cultural and performing societies around the following theme days:
MONDAY: Asia & Australasia DayTUESDAY: Europe ExperienceWEDNESDAY: Middle East & Africa DayTHURSDAY: Americas & Caribbean DayFRIDAY: UK & Ireland DayFor details of everything that’s on offer, head over to their website, oneworldweek.net, where you’ll find more info and a full line-up!

Now that the hustle & bustle of Term 1 has subsided and you’ve had a chance to settle in properly, now’s the ideal time to try out the SU’s vast array of sports clubs and societies!
Clubs and societies are a key part of the University experience. They are a great opportunity to explore your interests with like-minded people, try something you’ve always fancied and meet new people.
On Monday 16th January, we’re hosting the Refreshers Fair in the Union, where you’re able to come along and chat to members of our various sports clubs and societies and get a feel for what’s on offer. We’re also offering discounted membership to Societies Federation for the remaining two terms, giving you an added incentive to sign up!
If you can’t make it on the day, as always there’s a wealth of extra info online at www.warwicksu.com/societies

get involvedSTARS of Warwick nominationsSTARs of Warwick is a new awards scheme designed to recognise excellence in teaching here at the University.Run in conjunction with the student body, it asks you to nominate your lecturers/tutors for consideration by our panel.
If there’s a member of the University’s academic staff who you feel deserves special recognition, nominations will open online on Monday 16th January (Week 2), with the ceremony taking place on 8th March. Head to www.warwicksu.com for all the details!
saturday week 3Warwick Higher Education Summit (WHES) takes place on 28th January and will be discussing the theme: ‘Can the Public University be Saved?’
With students and Universities across the country preparing for up to £9000 annual fees in 2012, now is the time to question what a University education will mean for both future generations and society as a whole. The summit is organised by students and there is an excellent line up of speakers - tickets and more details are available on their website: www.warwickhesummit.org
monday week 4As you may have read online recently, the Bacardi Policy has been re-worded by our Board of Trustees, and there will be another General Meeting called soon to discuss the issue further. This has now been rescheduled to Week 4, not Week 3 as stated on the Wallplanner – watch this space (and the Democracy pages of the SU website) for more info!
join warwick nightline! We are entirely student-run and provide confidential support and information services from 9pm-9am every night of term.
We are holding our final training session for this academic year over the weekend of Week 3. To sign up, pop down to the Nightline Building (between Old and New Rootes, near the Launderette) on Monday 23rd or Tuesday 24th January between 11am and 5pm.
Sadly we can’t take on finalists at this point in their degree. Visit facebook.com/Warwick.Nightline for more info.
