NEWSLETTER OF THE CY-FAIR RAVENS IT’S OFFICIAL! THE RAVENS CERTIFY FOUR LEVELS FOR SPRING BALL…
CREDIT: JOSE ALVARADO
In only the Ravens’ second year of
participating in TYFA’s spring football
league, Cy-Fair has certified four levels for
official play. “Each year we are looking for
bigger and better production from
ourselves,” said Coach Austin. “We believe
that our success starts with a solid spring
football program where we are looking to
develop players and compete for a
championship.”
The Ravens will be able to accomplish
both objectives this spring with a
rejuvenated program and some newly
acquired players who are looking to prove
that they belong in TYFA. The JV level in
particular boasts some exciting new
prospects. Pledging to ‘Feed the beast’ this
spring, Coach Nick’s junior level boasts
some impressive talent.

Tough News for Star Rookie Lineman. During the Ravens’ spring
camp, Demarcus Green #6 was
consistently the best overall
player in the 10U lineman
workouts. “Demarcus dominated
everyone that lined up against
him,” said Coach Q. “He was
unstoppable.” -cont. page 5.

Cheer Conditioning Camp
BY CORTNI HARALSON
The ‘Ravens Spring Cheer Conditioning Camp’
was a huge success. There were a large number of
attendees including many new faces. All indications
are that the word is getting out about the Cy-Fair
Ravens cheer program. “We are extremely pleased
and excited about the conditioning camp,” said
Coach Q. “Within a few short hours, we saw new
athletes executing cheers and stunts. This is due to
out outstanding coaching staff.”

-Cheer Camp continued…
“The girls learned cheer techniques, worked on
conditioning exercises to enhance cheer skills and
learned some out our most popular cheers and chants
from the 2017 season, “ said Coach Haralson, Head
Coach of the Ravens.
Coach Haralson particularly credits the volunteer
cheer staff for the successful program.
“The staff did a wonderful job working with the
girls. Hats off to Erica Warner (Ravens Cheer Director)
and Coach Charnara Jones (Assistance Coach) for
taking the lead on this event,” said Haralson.
While the Ravens are appreciative of each family that
participated in the free conditioning camp, Coach
Haralson is eager to continue the relationship as the
‘Lady Ravens’ prepare for the fall cheer season. “The
camp was an awesome start to the 2018 season.
However, the entire cheer staff is super excited about
what’s in store for the program [this fall].”

Jordan Duncan is all smiles
after being named an academic
all-star by the TEXAS YOUTH
FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
-SCORING ON AND OFF OF THE
FIELD continued…
It takes a special player to excel at the position
of quarterback. Junior Varsity quarterback
Jordan Duncan made it look easy on the field
while maintaining excellence in the classroom
last fall. “Jordan is the prototypical example of
what a Cy-Fair Raven should aspire to become,” said
C o a c h Q .
“ W e w a n t o u r c h i l d r e n to be
academically outstanding while demonstrating
inspirational leadership in competitive sports.
These dual qualities are expected of all Ravens.”
Jordan was honored at the annual TYFA
meeting on March 10th with a certificate of
excellence and a cash gift of $100.00. Great job
Jordan. You are an inspiration to all Ravens!

Ravens Lose Star Defensive End to Injury
-CONTINUED FROM COVER
On a strange play with no contact involved, star two-way lineman, DeMarcus Green went down on what
appeared be a routine defensive stop. “I spoke to DeMarcus’ father yesterday and unfortunately, he suffered a
fracture of his ankle during the scrimmage against the Seahawks” said, Coach Q.
While Demarcus was in good spirits after the game, he’ll miss 4-to-6 weeks while he recovers. “He was
really looking forward to playing this spring,” said DeMarcus’ Dad. “I didn’t think that it was that bad at
first…but we took him in (for treatment) and they confirmed the injury.”
Fortunately, the Ravens expect Demarcus to be back in the fall making big plays for the Rookie defense.
“DeMarcus is a captain of this team and we expect him to be back to his dominant form in our quest to win the
state championship this fall,” said Coach Q. “Nevertheless, we will miss him this spring for sure.”
J.V. Running Back “Gio” Puente
- “Spring Ball” from cover page.
Running back Giovanni “Gio”
Puente brings a combination of
athleticism and skill that can give
opposing defenses trouble.
Meanwhile, stud lineman “E.J.”
Conde is a pass rusher that will
cause problems for opposing
offenses.
With the addition of the freakishly
athletic Jadon Crowder-Jones at
quarterback protected by rock-
solid Bruce Sarver Jr. and ultra-
steady Steven Reddic, the JV will
look to exploit the speed of Rocky
and Jeremy Alo-Perry and slashing
back Tav’Ren Richardson.

TYFA MEETING-continued
There were several serious policy issues addressed
at the meeting, including madatory head protection for the flag division and a change in the football
for the “rookie” division. However, the most
sginificant policy discussions involved TYFA’s
focus on the safety of the game for youth. After
several hours of extensive presentation, president
CEO Brian Morgan rolled out a comprehensive
three-year plan for safety regulations.
“Many old-school coaches will shudder at the new
rules,” said Quinon Brooker (Raven President). “But
in order to save our game, we must evolve with it.”

COMMUNITY CORNER (BUSINESS OF THE MONTH) by Renata LeClaire
This month’s Cy-Fair Raven “business of the month is in the business of
saving souls. Houston Northwest Baptist Church located at 19911 State
Highway 249, Houston, Texas 77070 graciously allowed the Ravens a home
for its second annual Easter Egg hunt and picnic. Pastor Rylan Scott (youth
pastor) blessed our food, ourselves, our children and our parents with an
inspirational prayer. The weather was absolutely perfect and the fellowship
was amazing. There was a potato sack race, kickball, and of course flag
football.
After all Ravens enjoyed good food, the hunt was on! Thank you again
Northwest Baptist Church. You are the Ravens ‘Business of the Month!’
