The BID Public Seating Project Visitor surveys and local feedback have highlighted a lack of seating along the main thoroughfare and so the Falmouth BID with input from University College Falmouth and Falmouth Art Gallery, commissioned a Falmouth design firm to produce the first two bespoke seats for the town. The idea was not to purchase an off the shelf bench but to work with local creative talent to produce ones that celebrated Falmouth’s creative spirit and artistic heritage. The first two benches were installed along Church Street and Market Street, two of the main retail areas within Falmouth. The form and shape linked is a reference to the design guide outlined in the Falmouth ‘Spirit of the Sea’ brand work also commissioned by the Falmouth BID. Quirky, innovative and original, they reflect Falmouth’s independent and creative spirit.

The latest bench unveiled along Market Strand once again sits within the same brand framework laid down by the first two.

This public seating project was however much more of a community collaboration. Design pupils at Falmouth School were asked to come up with design options and Falmouth residents were then invited to choose which design they would like to see installed. The winner? ‘Morgawr’ - Falmouth’s legendary sea serpent!
