Johnson Roofing has been a successful family-owned and operated roofing business since its founding in 1941 in Waco, Texas. Jack Johnson and his son Bill would travel to job sites all over Texas with shingle-packed horse trailers in tow while Jack’s wife Margaret handled office responsibilities.
Today, Bill Johnson and his daughters Sherri and Shawn manage a streamlined operation located on a 700-acre ranch in Robinson, Texas. The Johnson Roofing “family” has grown to include approximately 250 full-time workers with 60 sheet metal field professionals, 4 sheet metal shop workers, a 10-member sales team, and an office staff of 25. Horse trailers have been replaced by a fleet of installation vehicles. A full-service custom Sheet Metal Department with state-of-the-art roofing and sheet metal equipment including computerized breaks, shears, lifts, and cranes enables Johnson Roofing to adapt to metal roofing’s emerging market and new technologies.

In 1984, Johnson Roofing became a Berridge Licensee by purchasing one of the first SS-14 Tee-Panel portable rollforming machines off the line at the Berridge facility. “We realized the opportunity and benefits of site-forming continuous, straight, and curved panels and having access to all of Berridge’s products,”
Sheet Metal Supervisor Joel Baze commented. Presently, Johnson Roofing has installed about 80% of all tapered and curved metal roofing projects in Waco and surrounding areas. Not limited to Texas, Johnson Roofing has installed roofs all over the country and even the Cayman Islands.Twenty-six years later after purchasing a Berridge SS-14 portable rollformer, Johnson Roofing continues be at the forefront of roofing industry, staying ahead of the curve with their green initiatives. Johnson’s workmanship appears on The Waco Chamber of Commerce building, the first LEED Gold certified chamber building in America as well as Dell Children’s Medical Center, the first LEED Platinum rated hospital in the world. The company’s safety initiatives are equally impressive. In 2009 from a pool of 48,000 companies, Johnson Roofing was awarded a safety award for the second consecutive year by Texas Mutual Company. They were also presented with the Associated General Contractors of America’s Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Safety Programs the same day.In addition to metal roofing, Johnson Roofing has full crews for single ply, built up, roof maintenance and repair, foam, coatings carpentry, siding, decking, insurance claims, gutters and much more. They approach every project with Bill Johnson’s timeless wisdom in mind, “from your grandmother’s back porch to the tallest skyscraper, we do it all.” The company also maintains strong ties to the local community. Johnson Roofing and its employees participate in community service activities and contribute to local charities, schools, and churches. The company has hosted “Operation Building Bridges”, a festival honoring U.S. troops and their families for their sacrifice and service. Additionally, Johnson Roofing regularly donates Appaloosa Colts, a horse breed characterized by their distinctive spotted-pattern, to benefit various charitable organizations.
For more than seventy years, Johnson Roofing has succeeded in its pursuit for excellence. The company’s success in the roofing industry is a result of its unique company culture that balances traditional American values and organizational innovation.
