FROM THE
Pastor’s DESK
Last night, we had great participation in the Strength Devel-opment Index assessment. We started the survey at 6:30 after a delicious meal. Why did we do the assessment? When we get the results back in a few weeks, the data will reveal areas of strengths and weaknesses within our body of believers. The survey examines six functions of the church: worship, service, evangelism, prayer, fellowship, and discipleship. We will use the data to guide us as we determine what ar-eas to improve.
This survey was part 1 of a multi-step process. Step 2 will take place May 5 and 6. We will meet 2 hours of Friday night and 3 hours of Saturday morning. On Friday night, we will hear a short presentation of the results from the Strength Development Index, a presentation of the demographic study of those liv-ing within a 15 minute drive of the church, a presentation on the 10 year history of HRBC, and a presentation of the vi-sion God has laid upon my heart. On Saturday morning, we will have a workshop and gather information and ideas per-taining to the 6 functions named above. The workshop will provide a valuable amount of information for our future.
Part 3 of this process is currently underway as Dale Porter is leading our teachers and leaders through Thom Rainer’s High Expectations.
We have been called to make disciples and reach the na-tions. That is not a charge to be taken lightly. We have lim-ited time on this current earth and we have limited re-sources. I want to make the greatest impact in my life for the Kingdom of God. And as the pastor of HRBC, I want us to make the greatest impact for the Kingdom of God that we possibly can. We are in the boat together, pulling the oars with our eyes focused on Christ.

FAMILY MINISTRIES
Warning! Danger! Do not enter! If you see a road sign that
has any of those words on it, you are more than likely going to either
turn around and go the other direction, or at minimum, you will be
very cautious. The early church did not have these road signs to warn
them when dangerous discussions began. People were trying to fig-
ure out who Jesus really was, and the theological pendulum swung
hard from one view of theology to other side of it. These dangerous
discussions led to heresy, a theological view that is a damnable of-
fense. Today, heresies exist such as believing you are saved by
works, believing Jesus was not God, believing
the Trinity does not exist, etc. Newer theologi-
ans and preachers have spoken heresies in the
past few decades. Joel Olsten preaches the
“Prosperity Gospel.” He says if you believe in
God, in turn God gives you great riches and
wealth.
All of these heresies are false, but the
new danger sign theologians see occurring in the very age is not from
the mouths of preachers but from the mouths of babes. They are wor-
ried about the coming theology in children because studies shown it
has grown up with them into adulthood. The heresy impressed into
children is called moralistic therapeutic deism. Broken down, it means
that God wants all people to behave and be happy, but he will not be
directly involved in their life. This has come as a result of teachers
telling kids what they ought to do to behave, rather than teaching
what Christ has done on the cross for them. This can come from
statement such as “would God be happy with you doing that?” Good-
ness becomes God to children. This trend was seen in 2005, and it
has stuck with adults today.
How do we as the church combat this? After all the kids do have to behave, right? We must preach and teach Christ. When kids mess up, remind them that actions have consequences, but ultimately, teach the root of the Gospel to them. They are sinners, they are in need of a savior, so God sent the Son, Jesus Christ, to Earth to die on the cross to save them of their sins, he rose again, he lives today, and they are a part of his kingdom. To the saved children, encourage them that because they are a part of Christ’s kingdom, they are not to live like Christ wants them to. They are to live like Christ lived. The difference is that Christ has done work for us; he’s not sitting on the sideline looking and casting doubt; Christ has been the example for us to follow.
