The battle of Hastings Introduction: The year 1066, which marks the beginnings of the Middle Ages, is a year of great importance in English history. In January 1066 King Edward of England died and, as he had no children to succeed him on the throne of England, he promised the crown to one of his earls, Harold of Wessex. 1.The cause that lead to the battle In spite of the fact that Harold became a powerful King and most of the people agreed to his ruling the country, others however didn’t think so.
