Hello Mater Christi family, I pray that you and your loved ones are healthy. As you may have seen, Cardinal Cupich recently shared our multi-phased plan for reopening churches in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Specifically, Phase I allows for parishes to reopen for Baptism, Reconciliation, Weddings and Funerals with a limit of 10 attendees. Phase IA allows for parishes to reopen for private prayer and adoration with a limit of

10 attendees. Phase II allows for reopening for weekday and weekend Masses for larger groups depending

on the guidelines from the state and the capacity of the church building. Phase II will only be allowed once the Governor and IDPH provide guidance that larger groups are allowed to gather.

First and foremost, it is important for everyone to understand that our efforts will prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all while maintaining due respect and reverence for the sacraments and liturgical norms of our faith. I have assembled a Parish Reopening Leadership Team with parishioner co-captains to lead our efforts. Together, we will attend required virtual training from the Archdiocese to ensure that our parish reopening plan conforms to the guidelines developed by the Archdiocese in collaboration with civil and healthcare authorities. We will also receive a starter kit of protective and cleaning supplies, as well as ongoing guidance on purchasing/maintaining supplies. As I mentioned, the Parish Reopening Leadership Team members and I will need to complete required training. Once we complete the training, we will need to review and complete tasks assigned to all parishes as part of a reopening certification process to be approved by the Archdiocese. Our parish, like all others in the archdiocese, will move forward at a pace and timing appropriate for its own situation. Tentatively, we are hoping to be certified and to begin Phase 1 and Phase 1A reopening during the final week of May. More information will be sent to our parishioners via email, Facebook, and the Word when more information on the exact date of reopening becomes available. The guidelines and measures required to reopen are designed to protect our wellbeing and that of our broader community. Our collective patience, willingness to help and the care we take to reopen is a demonstration of our unity and love for one another. May God grant you His peace during this difficult time and may He manifest His love and presence to you in abundant ways. If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected] Sincerely yours in Christ,

Rev. Matthew A. Nemchausky, Pastor

A Note of Gratitude from Father Matthew…

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your generous donations to Mater Christi during these challenging times that we are facing. Although we have been unable to celebrate Mass together, it is because of your kindness and generosity that we have been able to meet the fixed expenses at the parish while keeping our parish finances in a healthy state. With your continued support, we will be able to emerge from this crisis as a strong and unified parish family. As we look toward the future to the days that we can celebrate Mass together in praise and thanksgiving to God, please know that while we are apart that I pray for and miss all of our parishioners. Again, I would like to thank you all for your prayers, kindness, and generosity during these times. As our parish mission states, in the words of St. Paul, “Let us not grow weary of doing good.” (Galatians 6:9) May God Bless You Today and Always,

—Rev. Matthew A. Nemchausky

Do you still have your Rice Bowl?

The CRS (Catholic Relief Service) Rice Bowl has become a tradition at Mater Christi Church and in our community. CRS Rice Bowl is an annual Lenten program created for parishes, schools, and families to engage in global solidarity as well as raising funds for CRS’ international work. It is a simple tool for almsgivings and as a way to connect with the worldwide Church as we pray for people all over the world. Many of you have been participating in this tradition during this past Lent, but because of the current stay at home condition, you may still have these Rice Bowls in your home and have been unable to drop them off at the church or rectory. It is not too late to put your rice bowl donations into the hands of those that will benefit from it! Our very own parishioner and lead counter, Stephen Piszczor, will be available at the doorsteps of the Mater Christi rectory this Saturday, May 23rd and next Saturday, May 30th from 5:00-6:00pm for you to drop off your Rice Bowls. You can also send in your Rice Bowl donation (please send a check, no cash, for the amount collected) to: Catholic Relief Services CRS Rice Bowl P.O. Box 17090 Baltimore, Maryland 21297-0303

MOTHER OF MOTHERS PRAYER

Mother of Mothers, holy Queen, chosen

before all women to be the Mother of the Son of God. Mary, my Mother, who in your Maternity have so sanctified the

state of holy motherhood, imploringly I come to you, humbly I beseech you,

confidently I trust in you. I know that you can by your all-powerful intercession help me in my need. In you I take refuge, dear Virgin. Poor and needy, I place my

hope entirely in you: I relinquish all, confidently in your hands. Betray not my

humble trust, but hear my petitions and come to my aid, dear Mother of Mothers.

Amen

Mother of Mothers, pray for us.
