    - Mark 9:1-11

  • The King’s Reception

The people saw Jesus as a national and political king. In truth, Jesus is a cosmic and

    spiritual king.

  • The King’s Rejection

    • In the garden Adam rejected the kingship of God by rebelling against God’s rule.

    • Genesis 1-3

  • The King’s Rejection• The result of Adam’s rebellion is that our

hearts are now rebellious toward God’s rule.

    “For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written: ‘None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands;

    no one seeks for God.’”
Romans 3:9–11, ESV

  • The King’s Response

God sent his Son to reclaim his people back to his kingdom.

  • The King’s ResponseChrist executes the office of a king,

    in SUBDUING us to Himself,
in RULING and DEFENDING us,

and in RESTRAINING and CONQUERING all His and our enemies.

  • The King’s Response

Our King has subdued us to himself.

    - by atoning for our rebellion
Isaiah 53:6

    - by assuring our redemption
Isaiah 53:10-12

  • The King’s Response

Our King has claimed us as his own
to rule and defend us.

    John 10:14, 27-30

  • The King’s Response

Our King will conquer all enemies
of his kingdom.

    1 Corinthians 15:24-28

  • The King’s ReignReceive the love of the Father by

coming under the kindly rule of Christ.

“Many would have Christ their saviour, but not their prince; such as will not have Christ to be their king to rule over them, shall never have

    his blood to save them.”

    ~Thomas Watson

  • The King’s ReignReceive the love of the Father by coming

under the kindly rule of Christ.

“Though he be the Lion of the tribe of Judah for majesty, yet he is the Lamb of God for meekness. His regal rod has honey at the end of it. He sheds abroad his love into the hearts of his subjects; he

rules them with promises as well as precepts.”

    ~Thomas Watson

  • The King’s ReignStay under the kindly rule of Christ by

    returning love to the Father.

“Eye the Father as love; look not on him as an always lowering father, but as one most kind and tender. Let us look on him by faith, as one that hath had thoughts of

kindness towards us from everlasting…Let, then, this be the saints’ first notion of the Father,—as one full of

    eternal, free love towards them…”

    ~John Owen
