With her 9 year Anderson Anniversary coming up in June, Pat Frank has seen many changes around here. Initially starting as an Accounts Receivable Collection’s Rep, Pat has worked in a variety of roles at Anderson: “When I first started, there were only four girls in the corporate office. At that time, we were printing invoices and statements, posting all checks and answering incoming customer calls. We were also accepting cash from customers, which we had to manually count daily and take to the bank,” Pat says.

Pat’s current role at Anderson is Admin Support. Working at the front desk Monday through Wednesday, Pat helps “to keep a well oiled and problem free machine running well - THE OFFICE.” As the receptionist and supply order clerk, Pat orders all of the Certificates of Insurance, toner cartridges and orders new uniforms. Among other things, Pat assists in organizing meetings at the corporate office and also aides Accounts Receivable and Recruiting.

“What I love most about my job is working with everyone in the office, everybody is all special in their own way,” Pat explains. “I love knowing that everything is running well and everything I do is appreciated.”

Health screenings were offered in three of our locations this year; Elmhurst, Wheeling and the Loop as well as at all LabCorp facilities. As the age old saying goes, “if you have your health you have everything,” so it’s great to see so many coworkers staying on top of their health awareness. The twenty percent medical premium discount was awarded with the first payroll in March to all who participated.

On Saturday, March 2nd, Anderson hosted its Annual Awards Banquet. With a Casino Night theme, the event was attended by more than 200 guests.

The evening consisted of many honors to employees for their years of dedication and achievements. Over 25 coworkers were awarded for their Anderson Anniversaries of 5 years or more, recognizing their selfless loyalty to our company. Of course, the most noteworthy of all of the Anniversaries goes to Willis Bartee for his 40 years of service with Anderson.

“There is a lot to be said about 40 years worth of service,” Mark O’Hara said, “Anderson has evolved so much since then and Willis has gotten to see us grow first hand through all of the changes. It’s such an honor to have him on our team.”

Eleven awards were given to Technicians, Service Managers, Customer Service Representatives and Sales Representatives for their achievements throughout the year. Award winners are listed on Page 7.

Anderson also added a new honor this year: the Spirit of our Culture Award. The award is honored to an

employee who is not only successful in their position, but embodies the spirit of our culture at Anderson. This year’s Spirit of our Culture Award was honored to the late Phil McCary and was accepted by the McCary Family.

“Phil McCary understood the job - the work you have to put in, the customer service, the consistency and the overall attitude. I’m glad we were able to honor his service and dedication with the award his family was given at the banquet. He was a great family man, coworker and human being,” Russell Knight said.

Entertainment for the night included casino games such

as Poker, Black Jack and Roulette. Each guest was given $2,000 worth of poker chips, either to cash in for raffle tickets or play at the casino games (in hopes of possibly earning more tickets).

The night culminated when the most coveted prize, the 50” Flat Screen TV, was raffled off and won by the McCary Family. Other Raffle Prize Winners can be found on Page 7.

Thank you to everyone who attended and we hope to see everybody again next year!

Many new faces have joined the Anderson Accounts Receivable Team! As a matter of fact, all three reps started within the last quarter of 2012!

Since October of 2012, things have really been heating up in the AR Department. With the help of our Staff Accountants, Gretchen and Melissa, the AR Team has been working tirelessly to ensure our clients’ accounts are thoroughly being reviewed for invoicing accuracy. In addition, they have stepped things up a notch and have been successful in collecting from some of our larger clients.

Meet Tracy WoulardTracy started Anderson as a Seasonal

CSR back in May of 2012. She came to our organization with 10 years of collection experience while working at HSBC. Her experience while working as a CSR really allowed for a smooth transition and it showed.

It is always great when we are able to retain seasonal staff, especially when we can do so in other departments.

Tracy’s quick call making and prior experience has really stepped things up in the AR Department. You can be sure Tracy will work until any and all tasks are resolved!

Meet Erin BroganErin joined the Anderson family in

October of 2012. Erin’s experience is quite different from her current role, however, her Supervisory experience at Pizza Hut and Family Video showed her true potential. Erin always has a determined way about

fully understanding every detail of her clients’ accounts. She is persistent and extremely professional.

Erin’s perky voice has brought the AR Department to a whole new level. She has helped lift the department’s customer service beyond where it has ever been!

Meet Shani MeeksStarting just before Thanksgiving of last

year, Shani brings a variety of experiences to the AR Team. With having worked as an Office Manager and a Quality Assurance Call Monitor, Shani brings a value to the group. Shani is very poised while on her

calls, making a point to ensure Anderson is represented with the utmost professionalism.

Working on her Accounting Degree, you can be sure Shani will be working to balance every account and ensure the utmost accuracy of data!

“I am quite pleased with the production of the Accounts Receivable Team,” said Marcia Daily, the Controller. “All three reps have displayed qualities of teamwork, hard work, and dedication. They work hard and support one another.”

The AR team also helps the CSR Department when call volume is high. “I have received numerous compliments on Tracy, Erin, and Shani internally and from clients. They have pushed and collected funds that were previously difficult to collect,” Marcia said.

Welcome Tracy, Erin, and Shani!

Meet the Anderson AR Team!

Since its launch, Anderson’s Insect Zoo has grown in exposure and in popularity. Within the last year, the Insect Zoo has extended its visits to a third museum - The Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in Milwaukee, WI.

In addition to dates at the DuPage Children’s Museum and the Kohl Children’s Museum, gaining presence in Milwaukee has allowed Anderson to further its mission with the Insect Zoo: to build positive relationships and share knowledge with local community members in Wisconsin.

Also, the Insect Zoo’s annual “Watch Us Grow: Monarch Butterflies” Display at the Kohl Children’s Museum will begin on May 21st. The display is a dynamic live insect exhibit that will show visitors the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. If you are in the area, be sure to check it out!

The Kreiling Edition My name is Chris Kreiling

and I am the District Manager in St. Louis and my dad, Thomas Kreiling, is a Service Tech in the Wheeling Office. My dad started working at Anderson when I was 3 months old. He graduated from NIU with a Masters of Biology but could not find a job. He applied at Anderson’s Loop Office after seeing an ad in the newspaper for a technician position. He started his career at the loop

office and from there went on to the Chicago North Office, Glenview Office and now the Wheeling Office.

I began my career with Anderson when I was home from college during the summers. I worked as a summer technician performing power sprays and barriers. My younger sister also worked in the Wheeling office as a temporary CSR. After college, I played for the Chicago Symphony’s training orchestra and also went on to work for a violin dealer in Chicago. I was laid off in 2008 during the economic down turn. After being unemployed for 8 months, applying to hundreds of jobs and working in various part time

jobs, I decided I needed to do something. My dad asked Neil Krummel if I could come and work for Anderson as a summer tech.

I came into the Wheeling office and interviewed with Jim Kaltinger and was offered a position as a summer tech with the potential of becoming a full time technician. By the end of the summer, I didn’t find work outside of Anderson and became a full time tech at the Chicago North Office. While working there, I expressed interest in becoming a Service Manager. After working for a year as a technician, I was promoted to a Service Manager in the Chicago Loop Office. After working there for a year, I became the district manager for the St. Louis office.

The opportunity to work at Anderson has always come at the right time for my family (my mom thinks our family crest should have the quote “Thank God for Anderson” on the bottom). I didn’t intend to work at Anderson at such an early age, especially since it was the same place that my dad worked. As I progressed into management at Anderson, I really found that I liked the work I was doing. Due to the family nature and strong commitment Anderson has to its team, I am really happy to be working here. What I enjoy most about working here is that I get to work with many people to accomplish our goals and I can help coach others to succeed in their own careers.

Carpet Beetles on the Move

Spring Pest Alert!Warm weather is around the corner and so are Spring Pests! Here’s a look at what to expect in the Spring Months.

March - Bed Bugs April - AntsMay - Small Flies June - Bee Wasp

Soon adult carpet beetles will begin to make their appearance by crawling up walls. Right at the beginning of spring is when most people will discover that they have been

infested with carpet beetles. Each year widespread fabric damage is caused by several types of carpet beetles. This is because of the common use of wool and other animal hair in clothing, carpeting, and furniture, and the failure to properly protect these items from insect attack. These insect pests share the unusual ability to digest the protein in animal hair, feathers, horns, and hoofs. Adult beetles emerge from pupation and head for lights and windows in an attempt to get outside where they feed on flowering plants and mate. Carpet beetle larvae, on the other hand, feed on carpets, fabrics, hair, hides, dead insects, etc.

People don’t always realize the correlation between carpet beetles and the outdoors. Flowering plants around the home’s foundation or animal nests can be a common source of carpet beetles and recurring infestations.

There are three different species of carpet beetle that look very much alike. Each species has a distinctive “calico” coloration of black, brown, white, yellow and reddish-orange splotches that is best seen under magnification. Adult beetles are tiny, 1/16 to 1/8 inch (1.6 to 3.2 mm) long, and rounded in shape. Carpet beetle larvae are yellow-brown, about 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) long and are covered with bristly hairs. Carpet beetle larvae avoid light, remain hidden and are rarely noticed - although you may find signs of their shed skin.

Most carpet beetle infestations are a result of less

than fastidious vacuuming, especially in homes with pets. A combination of hair, lint and food crumbs are the most common food source for carpet beetle larvae (even small increments since the larvae doesn’t require much).

Occasionally, though, you will find an infestation originating from an unusual source. Here are some tips when dealing with carpet beetles:

• Check areas where pet and human hair accumulate and areas that are rarely vacuumed such as animal bedding, sleeping areas, under heavy furniture, along baseboards, heat registers and hidden corners

• Check under woolen rugs and woolen items in storage• Look for and ask about animal furs, hides and trophies• Ask if there’s been rodent problems. Rodent nests and

dead rodents are sources for carpet beetles. Carpet beetles will also feed on rodent-hoarded pet food

• Check the attic for accumulations of dead insects like lady beetles or stink bugs

• Look for bird or bat nests that might be in or on the structure. When the animals abandon the nest, carpet beetles in the nest may move to a new site

• When outside, look for flowering plants around the home’s foundations. Some of the favorites of carpet beetles are dogwood, spirea, crape myrtle, pyracantha, buckwheat daisy and ceanothus

• Also inspect outside for old honey bee or wasp nests that could contain carpet beetles.

IT Systems Moving to Data CenterAnderson’s IT Department is excited to announce that we

have purchased a rack in the Latisys Data Center in Oak Brook and are currently in the process of rebuilding and moving all critical IT systems from the Elmhurst office to our new data center. Moving our IT infrastructure to the Latisys Data Center will provide redundant Internet connectivity and power to our critical IT systems, ensuring that power or service interruptions to the Elmhurst office will not impact system access from the Regional Offices.

Our new IT infrastructure will help to ensure Anderson’s continued growth and support the multiple new systems that we will be implementing over the coming year such as a new

phone system, automated and customized reports to both customers and internal staff, and a new interactive home page (intranet) to replace SharePoint.
