Lead Pastor’s Annual Report 2016

ONE

Romans 12: 4-5 (NIV) 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members,

and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body,

and each member belongs to all the others.

I was recently on a flight that was caught in what is sometimes referred to as a holding pattern.

This is a time when you know you’re close to your destination but continue to circle it from

above. The distressing thing about being caught in a holding pattern is the urgency and

desperation of being so close but yet so far. The wonderful thing about a holding pattern is

paradoxically connected; there is eagerness and excitement knowing arrival is within reach.

There are times when our journey with Christ can feel similar to a holding pattern. We see

signs that Christ’s return is immanent, thus we wait with eager and urgent anticipation. It is

in this eager anticipation that we are compelled to a life of urgency; a life which we pursue

right response to God’s direction, renewal of hearts and revival for the global and local

church.

This past year was one rife with opportunities to experience God at work.

We continue to see God bringing people together in unexpected ways. Responding to a plea

on Facebook, one of our own contacted Joyce and Henri Samoutou with New Sight in Congo

and helped them have greater connection to the world than they ever had. Even more, he

stepped far outside his comfort zone and traveled to Congo to ensure the installation went

according to plan. God brought people together for His glory. One man used his God

given abilities to provide a way for New Sight to connect with the world better than ever.

We are one family.

Not so long ago, we introduced the concept of every member ministry. That call perseveres

today. One man responded to that call and followed the Lord to Congo, others stepped out

and began new Community Groups to fill needs in our church family’s growth, still others

have found creative ways to serve others in Hong Kong and beyond. This is just the

beginning.

We, the church, are called to serve the lost, the oppressed, the alone and the needy with great

urgency. To do that, we must disciple committed followers of Christ that join us in

membership, united to carrying out the call placed before us. Numerous AIC Community

- 7 -

Groups have found ways to join together in caring for those in need. One of our CG’s

spent time visiting the elderly, another worked with the Home of Loving Faithfulness, one

sent members to China with GID, our youth group invested in us by creating a date night for

AIC couples, our kids invited their friends to family nights. Together, the wonderful family

that is AIC is being used mightily by God.

We thank God for the 20+ followers of Christ that obeyed the Lord in baptism this year.

We praise God for the myriad new children of the King that have met the Lord through

invitations given by AIC members in prisons, with GID, among our friends and family and

wherever else God has opened doors. God is bringing people into our family that we must

walk with through whatever life might bring us. It is an honour to know that God is using

His people of AIC to spread His light and life to those in need. Each time we light the candle

for those who have come to know Christ, we celebrate the renewed life of another that will

join us in eternity.

Each one of these new followers of Christ requires the church to walk with them, spurring

them onto growth and maturity. To accomplish such a task, we must unite together,

commit to investing in relationships, and give of our time and resources for the sake of the

Gospel call. Every one of us has the compelling call upon us to use our gifts to invite our

world into a restored relationship with Christ. AIC will keep challenging our people to take

up their cross and follow Christ by getting involved, together.

The Under-Shepherds and Governing Committee acknowledge our need to equip us to go

into all the world and make disciples. Our search for a Discipleship Pastor is ongoing. We

have had numerous good candidates but as of yet, God has not seen fit to connect us with

His candidate. Thank you for your ongoing prayers and patience as we seek to fill this vital

role. As we wait on the Lord, we’ll keep inviting our church family to get involved in the

lives of others. That will be an invitation that never expires.

Following Christ means keeping our eyes open to God renewing the hearts of bodies of

broken people. Sometimes this comes in the form of physical healing. This year our

church sought the Great Physician to heal a young teenager from our youth group. We

prayed fervently, Doctors worked diligently and God did the miraculous. That young man is

recovering well, joining Impact on Sundays and receiving good reports from his doctors.

Only God could restore this young man. You may not have noticed, but week after week

youth leaders, teenagers and other AIC family members joined in begging God to restore this

young man’s health. What an amazing testimony of God at work to see him back in

church!

There are times when the renewal necessary in life is relational. I cannot tell you how

encouraged I am to hear stories from within our church family of how they are walking with

Page 9: The Alliance International Church - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/allianceinternationalchurch... · Alliance International Church A N N U A L G E N E R A L M E E T I N G MARCH

- 8 -

people through difficult times, pointing them to the light and life of Christ. We have a team

of ladies that spend their Friday’s visiting women in prison. Through this ministry, over 30

women have come to know Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. God is restoring broken people

little by little, and using people of AIC who give of their time and passion to love the lost.

I think of all the volunteers that serve faithfully as they carry the message of renewal to all

people. Every Saturday we have a group committed to worshiping God together, bringing

their friends, often who only have a little time, to enjoy relationships centred on Christ. The

afternoons then fill our hallways with children during Awana, led by adults teaching them the

story of God renewing the hearts of His people throughout time.

Sundays bring even more souls in our midst; souls hungry to know more of the God who

restores what was once broken. Our children’s ministry on both days constantly seeks to

partner with parents as we the greater church family disciple our children together. We are

thankful for each volunteer that works with Twinky Chu and her teams, showing these

wonderful kids a life bigger than this world could ever give them apart from Christ.

Twinky works tirelessly to resource and prepare our leaders and we thank God for heart for

serving. As our children’s ministry continues to develop, we’ll be seeking to provide help

and leadership to Twinky and our children’s workers in the shape of hiring a part-time

Children’s Director to lead and direct where our ministry to kids is going. We will continue

to think Orange, working closely with parents and children to create environments and space

where we can grow together.

We also thank God for those that work with and invest in the adult community of AIC, from

Discipleship Class facilitators to Community Group leaders, AFF coordinators, worship team

and AV team members, and many others. Each of these adults are involving themselves in

the lives of others for the sake of growing mature disciples who in turn make disciples of all

nations. AIC needs more folks to keep finding ways to use their abilities in ways that show

others the greatness and glory of our King.

The Under-shepherds of AIC are committed to being innovative in how we share the story of

redemption with our broken world. We constantly look into how we can help people inside

the AIC family share their faith with those in their paths. This year, we have offered

discipleship classes focused on living out our faith (studying James), learned more of who

Jesus, our Saviour, Sanctifier, Healer and Coming King is today, and now, prepare for Easter,

and learn to live as Children of the Day (1 & 2 Thessalonians).

I will also do all I can to learn how better to communicate the living truth of God’s word. I

will attend a preaching conference in May, and continue to seek out mentoring relationships

that help me develop as a pastor, teacher, and shepherd. We’ll continue to invite other

Page 10: The Alliance International Church - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/allianceinternationalchurch... · Alliance International Church A N N U A L G E N E R A L M E E T I N G MARCH

- 9 -

teachers and missionaries to share with us, joining with global Christ followers to learn

together. All of these actions are pursued out of the unending quest to equip each person

that calls AIC their church home with everything they need to grow in maturity while inviting

others into the redemptive love that is found in Christ Jesus.

I come to work each day and thank God for the hearts and creative minds God has brought

us in terms of our AIC staff. Dorie works tirelessly to help keep things moving behind the

scenes while spending more and more time investing in and caring for others, meeting them

at their point of need. Pastor Aris has the heart of a shepherd like few others I’ve ever

known. He is a gifted man, and we thank God for how He continues to use Pastor Aris and

Emelda to build community across the framework of the AIC family.

I’ve already mentioned the joy that Twinky brings to serving our kids, and that joy is

contagious. Doug Wallace is a wonderful and tireless man of God, working feverishly to

show our teenagers what it means to live for Christ and let Him renew their lives. I thank

God for Doug’s continual work with the CAIS community where he coaches, leads chapels,

counsels and loves those around him. We are not perfect, but we are committed to helping

the family that is AIC grow together in love for God and for others.

God continues to bring new people into our midst each Sunday. Many that have made that

their visit have elected to make us their church home, adding new faces to the wonderful

portrait of life we see each Sunday when we gather together. While new faces come, we also

grow too accustomed to saying goodbye. One could say it’s a trademark of being an

international church. It is also an opportunity to see God use us to equip saints before they

move on toward other locales. We grow our church by welcoming people in as we send

others out! What a unique privilege of being an international church in a global city.

Whether it’s someone’s first weekend with us or they’ve been around from the beginning, we

will always be striving to be a church that shows people they are valued by God.

Looking ahead should spark further excitement as we await the culmination of invitations that

have been given. We, at AIC, are part of a larger family of churches and schools under the

umbrella of the Kowloon Tong Alliance Church of the Chinese Christian and Missionary

Alliance. For years we have the privilege of working alongside Christian Alliance

International School. This wonderful school is in the process of building a new campus in

Lai Chi Kok, at the heart of the Sham Shui Po district. Upon completion, our Mother Church

has requested that we partner even more closely with CAIS by meeting on their new campus.

While there is much prayer needed and many details to work in preparation of this shift, there

is also much to look forward to. We eagerly anticipate opportunities to serve the families of

CAIS in any way we can. To do so, we, the church family, must prepare to walk with people

Page 11: The Alliance International Church - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/allianceinternationalchurch... · Alliance International Church A N N U A L G E N E R A L M E E T I N G MARCH

- 10 -

in all stages of life from all sorts of backgrounds. There will be families needing hope,

needing help, and needing a welcoming face. We can be that face, we can offer that hope.

There will be school staff and faculty longing for encouragement, knowing they do not serve

in vain. We will be there for the school team, encouraging and supporting them. There is

a surrounding community, the poorest district in all of Hong Kong, that we can serve. We

will be ready to be the hands and feet of Christ, washing feet of those in need and seeking to

bring unity, working together as ONE body.

Why would we be excited about all the work left to be done? Why eagerly anticipate such a

large project? Because God has placed us here for such a time as this. We may not know

the specifics yet, He is leading us forward. Yes, we are in a holding pattern at the moment,

unsure yet of how the pieces will come together and that is exactly where God has placed us.

We long to be an instrument of revival among those associated with the school, the

community and our great city.

We will continue to offer more opportunities for corporate gatherings of prayer. The

Missions Team is currently preparing to lead regular meetings of prayer for the imperative

work of global missions. Last fall, we participated in a day of pray culminating with a night

together, celebrating praying with the our God in three persons, the Trinity. We also

received training in prayer from the Asian Director of the College of Prayer, Pastor Benji De

Jesus and his wife Abi. These gatherings will continue, as will our Wednesday night time of

Fellowship, Worship and Prayer. Each Wednesday, we discuss what we’ve read and learned

in our Scripture reading and how we’re applying them to life, and joining together in prayerful

dependence on God. We will beg God to revive our city that we might be light in our ever

darkening world. And we will go where He leads us.

It is a distinct pleasure to serve as part of a family committed to fulfilling the call of God on

our lives. I never tire of hearing our people share their own God at work stories. I’m

thrilled by knowledge that we gave more to missions as a church family last year than ever

before. We’re also sending new participants on trips ranging from China to the Philippines

to Congo, with more opportunities coming.

We’ve completed 3 semesters of partnership with ELIC, by providing care for some of the

teachers and staff on the ground in China. Melissa and I are thankful to the opportunity

provided by AIC that allows us to serve such committed saints as they in turn serve others.

New partnerships have been forged as we continue rely on God to open opportunities to

partner with His work in Asia. We now support not only Lavina with Fountainhead, the

Samoutou’s with Alliance Global Serve in Congo, church planting efforts in the Philippines,

and now TEAM community centre in China, the ELIC China country director and family,

and of course, the CAIS GID team. God is using these people to bring about renewal and

Page 12: The Alliance International Church - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/allianceinternationalchurch... · Alliance International Church A N N U A L G E N E R A L M E E T I N G MARCH

- 11 -

revival in some of the hardest to reach places in Asia and he’s allowed us to be a small part of

that. We must never forget to pray for these on the frontline of mission work while also

asking God how He might use us to share His love with people from around the world.

It may seem at times like progress is slow while we await the return of our King and the

restoration of our broken world. It may feel like we are in a holding pattern of life. May

this lead us to an urgent passion for God’s glory being revealed to all people. I pray that as

you’ve read this report, you’ve seen a greater picture, one in which God is using you, His

chosen people, united for the Gospel, to serve others in tangible, transformative ways, ways

that renew lives, restore broken relationships and experience a revival borne of the Holy

Spirit . As Paul says so well, “I thank my God every time I remember you.”

This past year was my tenth on staff at AIC. I can’t believe the time has come where Hong

Kong is the longest I have lived anywhere in my life! You have adopted our family as your

own in ways words cannot express. You showed love and compassion when our family

suffered tremendous loss this past year. You love our kids as if they are your own. You

show us the love of Christ on a daily basis and we simply cannot thank you enough for

inviting us into the AIC family. Melissa, myself and our children are equally committed to

caring for you, for your families, and this wonderful city we call home.

Together, we ask God to make us one, seeing God renew us, seeing our people respond to

His call, and watching God revive the hearts of men and women.

Respectfully Submitted,

Rev. Michael Rose

Report of the Pastor For Community of Life

“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have

the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs

to all the others.” Romans 12:4-5

It is a joy to be part of the life and ministry of AIC, and it is such a privilege to work with people

who love the Lord, the Bible and the Church. The leaders as well as the members have been

very supportive in furthering the ministry of the Gospel, ensuring that every opportunity will be

used to promote God’s glory and honor.

AIC is a community, which essentially exists through the care of each and every single

member. This has become the overall goal of the leadership, thus the creation of the

Community Life Ministry. It has been stated: “We aim to provide proper care for the overall

membership of AIC, from children to adults.” Thanks to Children Ministry coordinator and the

many volunteers who provide help in teaching, caring and walking alongside the children. In

such way, the young ones are being trained in the way of the Lord; helping them to become

reproducing believers as they grow up.

We baptize believers as the Bible commands the church by immersion in water. This year, we

have celebrated with more than 20 people who have affirmed their faith and were baptized.

Anyone is interested in water baptism may indicate his/her desire by contacting any of the pastors

and elders or call AIC office at 23346651. We aim to give attention to this vital ministry of the

church.

Eventually, the same individuals who were baptized had become committed members of AIC.

The leadership sees to it that becoming a member of AIC will not be a complicated process. We

conduct membership classes so the interested person may have the privilege of learning who we

are as a church. Then, the interested person has the freedom to decide and commit toward

walking along with us.

Pastoral care is one important ministry, which the Lord has entrusted to us. We provide care

by visiting the sick – whether in hospitals or at home – praying for and anointing them with oil.

Care goes in many forms, but most importantly, we share our life, resources and our prayers to

the needy. Praise the Lord, He has called and raised pastors, elders and members who

continuously make themselves available toward this ministry of care. We pray that we will be

able to help unceasingly, as Jesus enables us.

AIC is a large family. To be able to reach each member, we have established small groups. These

are community groups that meet on a regular basis, mostly in homes of members. Thanks to

those who have committed to host and lead each group. Your efforts and commitment will

Page 14: The Alliance International Church - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/allianceinternationalchurch... · Alliance International Church A N N U A L G E N E R A L M E E T I N G MARCH

- 13 -

always be remembered and appreciated. There are a lot more that each community group does

aside from serving the church. Some groups do missionary trips, visiting hospitals, and home

for the elderly etc. So we encourage you who are seeking to join a group. Please approach any of

the community group hosts/leaders. More information can be found in the printed bulletins

distributed during Worship Service every Sunday at AIC.

Caring for the Filipino community is an equally important ministry of AIC. The Alliance

Filipino Fellowship is not a separate body. It doesn’t exist by itself. It is an integral part of the

overall life of AIC. By the grace of God and by the help of leaders/volunteers, the AFF

continues to grow.

There continues to have two groups that meet every week: Sunday and Saturday Groups.

Although the Saturday gathering was begun to provide room for all people of various

nationalities, most attenders, right now are Filipinos. But we keep encouraging people to come

and join. The Saturday Group is not another church. It is AIC.

Through the ministries of AFF, many Filipinos have learned to exercise their spiritual gifts.

Members have learned how it is to live sacrificially. They have come to love God above all else,

more and more. Their lives are being shaped and transformed continually by the power of the

WORD of GOD.

As you were told in the previous years, and I will say it again: “One goal that we aim to reach,

by God’s help, includes ‘A growing desire for the members to Strengthen their understanding

of the need of the world, and their responsibility in meeting those needs.’” We pray that

everyone will have the Vision of God; to be able to know His heart and be able to obey as God

commands. Every Filipino is being given the opportunity to give and pray toward the mission

of AIC.

We are thankful to all volunteers who are now involved and to those who are wanting to help

out on the music and worship ministry. Thanks for your dedication and love toward the

work of the Lord. The Worship Band, Choir, Audio/Visual and the Dance Group are teams

that work together to provide an orderly and inviting worship services every week. Again, our

goal is to lead the worshipers of all ages to experience God’s Love and His Presence through

music as well as by songs of praise and worship and dance.

We continuously remind ourselves to focus on the glory and honor of our God, whom we

worship and serve. And we continue to live together as a team to achieve God’s calling – serving

the Lord as One Body.

We continue to invite people in our congregation to come, indicate your desire to serve God

through the Worship Ministry at AIC. It is only through God’s grace, help and provision that

we are able to carry out the ministries according to His design for His glory.

May the Lord continue to open our eyes so that we will see “Doors” of opportunities that God

Himself are opening for us. Let us keep going. God is good!

Children’s Ministry

Thank you my Lord, this is the 4th year I have been serving in AIC Children’s Ministry as a

coordinator.

For the past year, I have seen God’s at work and witnessed what this bible verse said: “For

just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the

same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all

the others.” Romans 12:4-5.

Praise the Lord for He sees the need in our Children’s Ministry and provided many helps.

During this past year we have gained few experienced new leaders. Some of them are full

time teachers; some rejoin us again after a long break; some brand new but passionate

volunteers, some helped with organizing children’s materials, some give counseling and

advises. Each has different gifts and all improved our Children’s Ministry. God send

volunteers before I even asked.

Our Children’s Ministry has fully migrated to Orange, a strategy to partner with parents to

guide our children, put God’s word in their hearts and make them think. Each lesson offers

many different kinds of activities from simple art & craft, cooking, racing games, and planting

to building models and science experiments to point the children back to God. Our children

had expressed they find it more interesting and willing to come to church. Parents told me

that they trust that the seeds have planted in their children’s heart. For next year, we want to

challenge our children to continue to serve, to love each other and care for the local

community.

After using Orange for a little bit more than a year, we had our leaders meeting. We collected

valuable opinion from them and made adjustment. Especially in our nursery, we officially start

using Orange- First Look toddler lesson in Sept 2015. Our little ones receive God’s word

through the nursery rhymes, bible stories and simple crafts. They receive God’s love through

our volunteers’ care. Our nursery sanitation has improved and we will continue to work on

it to protect our little ones’ health. Currently, we don’t have nursery volunteers during the

discipleship class hour. In the coming year, our goal is to find a way to take care the age 0-2,

so that the parents can attend our adult discipleship class.

Thanks to AFF dance team, our Children’s church worship time had became much more

vibrant and energetic. Our children were able to take the lyrics (God’s words) deeper into

their heart. Specially the younger children, they loved the dance. With Jwynzelle Zapata,

Homie Torre and their team’s help, our children did an amazing cheer on Father’s Day. The

challenging moves and teamwork required in this cheer increased their confidence and unity.

God opened up opportunity for our children to visit a local senior home in Hung Hom on

Easter Sunday. Our children had prepared a mandarin Christian song for the

Chinese-speaking seniors citizens. The positive response gave our children the of joy serving.

In summer, our children had been learning what is Conviction: stand up for what is right,

when others don’t. Louise Tjung, a prayerful lady led a Bake Sales and joined the Kam’s

family’s Grapefruitade Sales. This gave our children another chance to serve the needy. The

fund that they raise donated to the Home Of Loving and Faithfulness a special need

orphanage.

We rejoiced with the Lord that Grace Kam had baptized last year.

Last year we regularly served about 30 children with some occasional attendees and our

number of children had dropped. I was worried and had prayed about this. Later we

understand the importance of relationship building between children to children and children

to volunteers. Melissa Rose stepped in and helps. Since 2015 March, almost every month

Melissa hosted a game date outside the regular church hours. This does not only strengthen

the relationship between our children. It also opened up a great opportunity for the children

to invite their non-believer friends to our church. There were few children who were not a

regular attendee, but they made extra effort to join these activities. Through these events I can

see those who were once reluctant to join us, now feel much more comfortable to attend

Children’s church. There is one family now becomes a regular attendee at AIC. During

Christmas we had many families entered a photo scavenger hunt and game night. This game

brought these families so much closer together. In Jan 2016, we let the children pretend to be

a missionary for a day. Aside from the very real simulation flight, the exciting games and

pretended exotic experiences, the children have learned before they spread the gospel to

non-believers; they need to build a good relationship with the non-believers first.

We understand all these activities are the tools to attract the children to come to church, but a

true relationship is main thing to guide them to God. For the coming year, we aim to build up

strong relationship between children to children and leaders to children.

Volunteer is the major part to the success of our Children’s Ministry. Thus in last Sept, we

had our volunteer appreciation lunch. Children made a video to thank their leaders and

planted potted-herbs as gifts for all volunteers. But that was not enough, we need to invest in

them and provide them with the right tool to help them success. Unfortunately I have not

arranged enough volunteer training for them last year. My goal is to invest in my volunteers

more in the coming year.

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the mentors and dedicated volunteers

who had come into my life last year. I am so blessed by God’s calling me into church ministry.

AIC Children’s Ministry will continue to lean on Him for His guidance.

Youth Ministry

As I reflect on the last year and on the passage of Romans 12:4-5, it makes me feel grateful to

be where I am. I am most grateful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Without Christ I

am nothing and apart from Christ I can accomplish nothing. And I am thankful that God

has surrounded me with a loving church family that has a genuine heart to love God, love one

another and to love the youth. It is no exaggeration to say that it is a privilege to live and

serve with the people at AIC.

Pastor Mike has been a tremendous help in experience and wisdom. He has been patient

with me and a great encouragement as I continue to learn and grow in youth ministry. I am

grateful for Pastor Mike’s friendship and his heart for not only the ministry but the people as

well. He sacrifices so much to be in the lives of so many people which is an ongoing

example for me. And it is a great comfort to have a leader who believes wholeheartedly in

living for the name of Jesus and is willing to stand by those serving with him. Pastor Aris is

a consistent reminder of what it is to live for Christ. I am inspired and encouraged as I

watch Pastor Aris pour himself into so many people. Dorie Manalili and Twinky Chu have

helped out with the youth ministry on several occasions. Their support has been invaluable

to what we have done and I am grateful for them.

I have learned this year that depending on others and their strengths is how God intended the

church to function. I am so thankful for Esther Wu. I really don’t know where I would be

without her steady presence of experience, advice and encouragement. I have learned that it

is wise to listen to others and Esther is someone I lean upon often.

This year we split Impact into two classes. Victor Kam, Annie Pau and Brian Lowther have

been instrumental in implementing this change for Impact. They have stepped up to lead the

Impact Juniors class (ages 11-13) and they have done so faithfully. It is so comforting to

have people that you can trust to lead the youth. The time we have spent at the home of

Victor and Annie has been a huge blessing for us all. Also, I appreciate that they are willing

to communicate and help us make some necessary changes as we move forward. We will

have a new focus moving forward which I will address further and all of the volunteers were

a big part of helping us make that change.

Toby Cha has been a rock for our Reload youth fellowship on Friday nights. He has

faithfully served for over two years. I have seen him build better relationships with the

youth this year. He is able to connect with the youth in ways that I am not. And he is

faithful to the message of Jesus. I am so grateful for his friendship and his heart to serve.

Toby and I are looking for other Christians who are willing to step up and help us in Reload

on Friday nights.

One of the things we focused on this year is getting the youth involved in service. We hope

to continue to look for more opportunities and to increase the level of commitment over

time. This year the youth have helped with the ushering during service. Impact helped to

host the Couple’s Night @ AIC. And we had a wonderful time with home visits during the

Christmas break. We plan to make more home visits as a way for the youth to use their time

to bless other families, pray for them and encourage others in the church. We will continue

to look for more ways to get the youth involved and to help serve.

The Lord continues to open up doors for partnership between AIC and CAIS. It is such a

great joy and honor to serve the students and teachers at CAIS. I have the privilege of being

at the school Tuesday through Friday for various ministry opportunities. I am helping with

coaching, discipleship, bible studies, chapel, being in the classrooms and spending time with

small groups and individual students. I also continue to help support and go on trips with

GiD. This is a ministry I love and Lord willing plan to continue to support and be involved

with in the future. Although my main focus is on the high school students (grade 7-12),

next year I will begin to invest in the grade 4-6 chapel at CAIS. This is a wonderful

opportunity to help serve the school and build up their children.

In the coming year, God has laid it on our hearts to change the focus. Discipleship is an

important part of the church and we will continue in that. However, I believe discipleship is

focused on building up those who are already born again Christians. And as we have gotten

to know a lot of the different youth over the past year we have seen a lot of them struggling

with doubts and insecurity in their faith. And quite a few of them are not sure they are

willing to submit to Jesus as Lord. Because the youth have grown up in or around the

church, they often know the model answers. They may even know the Bible verses to

support the model answers. But we are seeing a consistent struggle for the youth as to

whether this is their own faith. They can’t seem to go beyond the model answers and think

for themselves. They also struggle to live out their faith beyond church.

We are looking to challenge them over the next year to take a serious look at what they

actually believe. We will pray together, go through scripture, use apologetics materials and

look for ways for them to live out their faith through service. The hope is to help the youth

be honest with themselves in what they believe and in what they are struggling with. We

want to have an opportunity to walk through those doubts and those struggles with them.

We want to create an environment where they don’t have to pretend to be someone but can

honestly approach the idea of what it means to follow Christ. And we will look for ways to

respectfully request that parents and families help us on this journey. We hope that the

youth will be able to learn, grow and mature in their faith both at church and at home.

I spent a considerable amount of time in this ministry report talking about the other leaders

for a reason. God has created us all with different talents, personalities and gifts. We need

each other in order to fulfill the call of the church. I couldn’t ask for a better group of

leaders and volunteers than what he has blessed us with. And I wanted to focus on the

idea of working together as a church towards the goal of glorifying God through loving

Christ, loving others and reaching the world. Please continue praying for us and prayerfully

consider joining us in serving the youth.

Doug Wallace

Awana Clubs

This year marked the 18th year of Awana ministry in AIC. We meet at Whampoa Alliance

Primary School every Saturday from Sept to May. The goals of Awana are to help clubbers

understand the saving grace of the LORD Jesus Christ and to teach them how to apply

biblical principles in daily life. We have about 24 regular leaders and helpers, not including

occasional volunteers and speakers. Current Awana enrolment is about 54.

Our program offers fun, friendship and serious Christian teaching for preschoolers to early

teenagers. On one hand, Awana provides a comfortable venue to young church goers to learn

and grow along with peers and adults who share the Christian faith. On the other hand,

Awana also reaches out to unchurched children and youth, providing them with an enjoyable

environment in which they can experience the care and love of our adult leaders.

Awana Clubbers learn through Bible verses and stories, songs, games, crafts, testimonies,

small group interaction, and community outreach. Handbooks following Awana curriculum

are used for the memorization drills, with emphasis on true understanding of the scripture

and application to life challenges. Throughout the year, pastors, missionaries and external

speakers are also invited to speak to our clubbers.

Special events for this year include the Hush-Hush Day, Cereal Day, Easter Celebrations,

Christmas Celebrations, Missionary Month (Jan 2016), Awana Store and Family Fun Day. The

Awana Outing was held at the Discoveryland on Nov 21st, 2015. Our clubbers will also

participate in the 5th AwanaGames (citywide event) in April at the HK Velodrome.

May GOD continue to direct our Awana team and bring more little ones into His Kingdom

through the Awana ministry. The joy of the LORD is our strength!

Serving the LORD together,

Danny Lee

Awana Club Commander

Guest Services Ministry

Our team currently consists of 21 ushers and 10 greeters. In addition, we have re-started

the youth group to help each month in our service.

Our main duties continue to be greeting visitors and worshippers during Sunday congregation,

handing out programs, collection of offering and helping out in whatever welcoming duties as

necessary. All are welcome to join our team in extending our hospitality service.

Please help to pray in the following areas:

1. To serve with greater enthusiasm and zeal. Leaving visitors a good first impression

will be a key to their next visit.

2. Ushers to be on better vigilance for new visitors and refer them to greeters for further

follow up and introduction to the pastor. Ushers can also take the initiative to

introduce visitors directly to our pastor after the service.

3. Taking people directly to Children's church when they need directions.

4. Encouragement of more youth to join to provide a more rejuvenating atmosphere to

the service.

Head Usher.

Library Ministry

1. As in the previous year, the Library continues to experience a decline in usage due to the

increasing use and availability of online resources. In spite of this, the Library is committed to

providing this service to those who still enjoy hardcopy books.

2. The process of streamlining our inventory by clearing older materials is ongoing. Together

with donations from the congregation, a book sale was held on October 18, 2015 at which

HK$525.00 was raised and added to the petty cash fund. Petty cash balance stands at

HK$1,161.50.

3. The next book sale is tentatively planned for April 10, 2016

4. Suitable donated books were also added to the Library inventory.

5. We are thankful that our roster of regular volunteers have grown to include Esther Yam, Joan

So, Grace Daniel and Linda Yu so that each person has library duty only once a month. Their

enthusiasm and dedication to keeping the Library running and preparing books for circulation

is greatly appreciated!

For His glory,

Janet Chan and Georgina Chan

AIC Library Coordinators
