Trust your hunches. They're usually based on facts filedaway just below the consciouslevel.

”Dr. Joyce Brothers
Welcome to Step 8! In this lesson, we are going to
deepen your ability to see Signs, particularly the
more subtle signs that hint at the future and all that
is about to unfold.
In our very first lesson we touched on how to see
Signs using the body’s intelligence. This is particularly
useful when identifying signs in relation to
conversations, particular desires and your
interactions with other people.
In this lesson, we’re going to expand that into larger
realms so that as we continue into the final half of
this program, you can begin to notice social and
planetary patterns and identify where they’re
headed.
This way of seeing signs is closely related to your
intuition and following your heart—opening you up
to wonderful experiences of serendipity, epiphanies
and answers sparked by random encounters, a
chance lyric in a song, or the shape of a cloud in
the sky.
Yes, these are the subtle yet no less accurate signs
that exist all around us, but which many around us
are afraid to believe. However it is through
accepting their existence and tapping into their
vast stores of information that you continue to
evolve as the co-creator you are. It also prepares
you for aligning your purpose with the larger
patterns and cycles that serve you: because now
you’ll be able to see them.
If you’ve watched The Secret or heard of the Law
of Attraction, they talk at great lengths about these
kinds of signs. Creating your reality requires asking
questions, receiving the answers, and then acting
on them. However for most people, those answers
come in the oddest ways and are easily dismissible.
They come in dreams, or in serendipitous or random
encounters. They arrive as sudden odd inspirations
to do something out of the ordinary or out of char-
acter.
The majority of people ignore these signs. But it’s not
for lack of a desire to act. Rather it’s like the dial on
the volume is turned too low... the signs are so subtle
they barely get noticed. So in this lesson we’re going
to focus on honing your awareness and to get that
volume turned way up. You’ll be seeing signs all
around you!
So why do most people miss these signs?
How did the volume get turned down so low in the
first place? Well it’s simply a function of socialization.
Noticing signs requires a state of being that many of
us have been trained out of. It was an unfortunate
byproduct of learning how to participate in society
as adults. Though we developed many wonderful
skills in that socialization process, we also acciden-
tally shut ourselves down from receiving this partic-
ular kind of information.
Luckily, nearly all of us existed naturally in this state
of being as children. And so it can easily be re-acti-
vated and... frankly... it’s a lot of fun. ☺

Where we tapped the body’s intelligence to see
signs in our immediate communications and
interactions with people and for ways to navigate
present circumstances... now we’re going to
continue developing the heart’s intelligence and
our intuition to help us see the more subtle, grander
signs that point to social and global patterns and to
the direction of our futures.
Often we miss these signs because we
overcomplicate the process. We also tend to take
it all too seriously, blocking the most powerful state
of being we can adopt for seeing these higher signs.
What is that powerful and simple state of being?
The State of Amusement.
This is why children notice signs everywhere. They
view the world with awe and wonder and curiosity.
They exist in a natural state of amusement.
They are light hearted. Even the phrase itself is
telling: the heart is the key, and it is light, which
makes us think of buoyancy and little weight... it is
not heavy or weighed down. We might also think of
light in terms of energy—bright, enlightened, shining
a light on what we might see.
Context is so powerful and when we see how much
information our minds can derive from simple
phrases like ‘light hearted,’ we begin to see how
subtle signs that are easily dismissible might actually
be brimming with useful information.
Amusement also means that we are in a neutral
state of awareness, yet there is also a joy and
playfulness. We are reminded of the iconic grand
Fool evoked by the Enquirer in Step 1. With
amusement, we are not lost to overwhelming need
or desire, nor gripped by fear. We are not tossed on
the seas of powerful emotions nor shrouded by
confusion or doubt.
Any one or more of those things may be present for
us, yet they have not overpowered us. Because if
they had, we would not experience a state of
amusement. To be amused is to be neutrally happy.
Just because.
So if being in a state of amusement helps us see
higher signs, how can we create more amusement
in our lives?

TIP 1. Get out of your comfort zone on adaily or weekly basis.
Find a new way home from the office that you don’t
usually take. Or visit a new part of town. Hang out in
a restaurant, coffee shop or park that you’ve never
been to.
When you do... practice being aware of your
awareness. What do you find yourself noticing?
Are you out of your head and your own thoughts
more... perhaps noticing more of your environment
and what’s happening around you? Do any
epiphanies come then or later on?
By training yourself to be more spontaneous, you
create a new comfort zone that is playful and much
larger. You build that muscle for adventure and so
the next time you get an intuitive hit or odd unex-
plainable urge to do something or go somewhere...
you’ll do it! Because that hit or urge is likely a sign
pointing you to your next step for creating what you
want.
This tip also develops your awareness. We tend to
see more when we’re in new environments or out of
our routine. And it’s far easier to see signs when
we’re actually looking for them. ☺
Also, this takes repetition and consistency. Don’t just
do it once! Consider actually scheduling time into
your calendar. Call it “Adventure Hour.” Even if you
have too much work to do or too many errands to
run... bring your work with you to a new environ-
ment, or run your errands in a different town and in
different stores. And do it at least once every week.
TIP 2. Expand your awareness beforemaking decisions.
Here’s a great tip for inviting light heartedness into
real life: such as when you’re faced with key
decisions or difficult choices.
What tends to happen when we face a hard
decision is constriction. The stress closes us down to
our available information. Also, oftentimes other
people want us to make certain choices and so,
whether they mean to or not, their energy will often
invade our space.
If you’ve ever felt terribly confused about which
choice to make, 9 times out of 10, it’s because
someone else’s information and energy is in your
space. So it feels like your own. And suddenly you
can’t decide what you really want. Your own
information is clouded and covered by someone
else’s (or by multiple other people!).
They are not necessarily doing it on purpose. We all
accidentally affect each other when we strongly
desire something for another person, or when we
think we know what’s best for them.
So how do you regain clarity to make your decision?
You use your heart’s intelligence, and the
amusement that creates light heartedness.

The following exercise will help you expand your
awareness beyond your physical body. Though it
does not deal directly with amusement as we often
consider it, we are expanding your sense of self
much the same way we expanded your comfort
zone in the previous tip. Expansion and amusement
are closely linked. So have fun with this exercise, and
feel free to massage or shift it to whatever works
best for you. The goal is to experience a light
hearted expansion that creates calm and clarity in
a space of neutrality...
To begin, find a quiet space and close your eyes.
Follow your breath and quiet your mind until you
reach a basic meditative state. Once you’ve
reached a space of relative stillness, go ahead and
bring your focus to your body. Feel your awareness
expand to fill up your entire physical self from the
crown of your head... down into your chest and
belly... all the way down into your knees and your
toes.
You may feel a slight sense of movement or energy
coursing through you or you might not. Just hold the
intention that you are filling your entire body up with
your own awareness.
You may see as you do this that your awareness
focuses on a specific part of your body, such as your
right hand. Then it will leap to another part of your
body like your forehead or your feet.
As this happens, continue expanding your
awareness to include both your hands and your
feet. Your head and your torso. Continue to expand
and include until you feel a balanced awareness
holding the totality of your body all at once. This
may take practice, so don’t worry if you still find your
awareness leaping around.
Eventually you will be able to hold your entire body
within your awareness. When this happens and
becomes comfortable and natural, next I want you
to further expand that awareness outside of you –
from within you.
This may happen the first time you try this, or perhaps
not for a few weeks or months as you practice.
Either way is perfectly fine. Expansion is always hap-
pening and never done (at least not in this lifetime!).
So when you are ready, you will be holding your
awareness of your own being... and also an
awareness of your immediate surroundings...
You may find when you do this that a physical sense
of expansion happens. You feel larger... vaster. As
John Meyer says, you may experience that “I’m
bigger than my body gives me credit for.”
The only thing I know the universe is doing for sure, is it’s expanding, and we know that from physics. And so I said [toa friend] “I think the purpose of the universe is to expand”,and he said, “that’s right, and anything that supports expansion; the expansion of freedom, the expansion of consciousness, the expansion of abundance, the expansionof love, that’s going to get supported, because it’s in line withwhat the universe is doing.

From this space of expanded awareness, next
visualize your expanded space and choose to take
ownership of it. See your own energy, perhaps a
bright golden energy (but it can be any color you
see or want it to be), and watch it fill up your entire
body and space around you. See any foreign
energy from others in your life calmly leaving your
space and returning to the people that energy
belongs to. Know that this expanded space is yours
and belongs to you. Continue the visualization until
you feel a sense of clarity and neutrality, and
perhaps even a bit of amusement (because... “can
this really be this easy?!” ☺).
Now, when you are ready, from this place of
expanded awareness and clarity, ask the question
you seek your answer to.
Rather than constrict your awareness back to the
chambers of your brain and logic, maintain that
expansion you’ve just gained and simply hold your
inquiry from within that space. Let it move around
and just see where it goes.
Instead of searching for answers, let them come to
you. And trust the information you receive, even if
at first it doesn’t make sense. This type of inquiry
often leads to epiphanies!
TIP 3. Go on a Scavenger Hunt
This is my particular favorite for inviting amusement
and it always leads to fabulous and often surprising
results.
Pick a day when you have several hours of free
time. Book it in your calendar and don’t let yourself
cancel it. This is your date with your own destiny!!
When the time arrives, you can choose to drive,
walk, take public transportation or ride a bike. Just
be sure to have some basics with you like a jacket
or anything necessary for weather, a water bottle,
maybe even a snack. The idea is you don’t want
any excuse to stop your adventure once it’s began.
It’s hard to maintain amusement if you’re stuck in
the pouring rain or you’re freezing cold as soon as
the sun sets!
Once you’re ready to go, just go! Get in your car
and drive, or begin your walk, or pick a random bus
stop and get on. The idea is you don’t know where
you’re going or where you’ll end up.
Once you’re moving, you’re officially on your
scavenger hunt. So the name of the game is to
make as many decisions as you can and to trust
that higher guidance or intuition is guiding your
choices, even if you don’t understand them. So as
soon as you come to a cross street, ask yourself,
“Left or Right?” Go in the first direction you hear in
your head... or, like me, you may feel a slight tug in
your body to go in that direction. Go with your first
instinct and don’t take more than a split second to
decide.
In the case of public transportation, instead of
choosing which way to go, follow your gut instinct
for which stop to get off at, and then where to go
from there...

Keep doing this until you get a really strong hit or
desire or image. It might be a sudden urge to visit
that new coffee shop or to stop by a friend’s place.
Maybe you see an image of you sitting on a bench
at a park and a dog racing up for a pet... whatever
it is that pops into your awareness, follow THAT! It
becomes your first “Clue.”
Once you’ve reached that destination, or sought
out that park you saw in your mind, hang out or
meander around the location until you get your
next hit.
Also imagine that every thought, idea and feeling
exists forever in a field of information. Sometimes
what is to occur in a particular location isn’t a
chance meeting with a person so much as a
chance meeting with an idea.
That’s why we often get epiphanies when we’re
walking or somewhere new. We picked it up or
encountered it in the field. When you want fresh
ideas, the best thing you can do is go to fresh places
you’ve never been before!
Other reasons for the clue may be that you’re there
to buy something, or to run into someone, or to
notice your next clue that you would have
otherwise missed. Either way, don’t search too hard.
Have fun with it and trust that the clues will come to
you.
In this way, continue through your day, expecting
to see a new sign or clue anywhere you might look,
open to adventure and serendipity and surprises at
every turn and corner.
This doesn’t mean that you think everything is a
sign... rather you’re playing at the possibility that
anything might be a sign—and you trust yourself to
know the difference. Keep practicing, and
eventually you’ll get exceptionally good at not only
seeing the signs, but knowing which are important
and what they mean.
It’s a native skill you already possess as a human
being. The tips we just covered will help you step
back into remembering it. Because as children we
did this naturally and all of the time (as long as it
wasn’t suppressed by others). And so most of us un-
derstood that we lived in a magical world full of
wonder and new experiences.
We expected it. And it’s time to expect it again.
