Created in 1989 at the instance ofAfrican film makers, the Africanfilm library of Ouagadougou assurethe patrimony of African cinema forthe collect, the inventory, the cata-loging and conservation of films. Itprovides a great database for Africancinema. The African film library o fOuagadougou which rich of morethan 2000 films, and 1000s filmdocuments and archives on cinemai n Africa has almost disappearedwith the floods of 1st September2009 which affected seriouslyOuagadougou. After rehabilitation, the filmlibrary can own more than 1500

films (fictional short and featuref i lms) . The archive is opened to stu-dents, teachers, researchers, profes-sionals of cinema and organizationof cultural vocation, social or edu-cative.

We have been able to save the filmlibrary with the support of thegovernment and partners. The work

was about the rebuilding of the for-mal building with a concrete beltaround it. The whole inside wasrenovated including electricity andair conditioned. The level of thebuilding was raised by one meter”,said Mr Soma Ardiouma, Director o fOuagadougou's African film library. The official launching of the filmlibrary is due the 1st March 2011 .

For the second time, the red carpetwill be rolled out to give value tothe 22nd edition of FESPACO andmagnify the courage of Africanprofessionals in the film industry. They all deserve to be honored forconveying the emotions of Africathrough images and sounds.

The red carpet has been initiatedto meet the urgent need 'to pro-

fessionalize the organization ofFESPACO'.FESPACO reflects African culturethroughout the world and existsthrough the image and sound of theAfrican professionals. These pro-fessionals deserve recognition, re s-pect and encouragement not onlyfrom FESPACO but from generalpublic. In this regard, since the21st edition, FESPACO took theinitiative to roll out a red carpetfor professionals of Africancinema. It is a unique way to

honor them. Far from being a poorimitation, the red carpet has itsdue place at FESPACO.The red carpet is about a hundredmeter-walk during which each filmcrew will be receiving standingovations from the public up to the

stage. Afterwards, each director andthe crew will get into the room forintroduction which is followed bythe screening of the film.
