~In Our Thoughts & Prayers~ Homebound Parishioner of the Week

The following letter from Bishop Walkowiak I would like to share with you. It may be part of your re-flection and action with regard to our Lenten discipline of almsgiving. “Dear Friends in Christ, More than 2,900 people have been killed because of their Christian faith. Over 260 million Christians live in communities where they experience a high level of per-secution just because of their religious beliefs. These astonishing statistics regarding Christian persecution come from Open Doors USA’s 2020 World Watch List reporting period (Oct. 31, 2018 – Nov. 1, 2019). We may not be able to see their faces. When we look, however, through the eyes of Jesus, we sense the suffering of our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. This is your opportunity to help! Next weekend, March 21-22, the parishes of our diocese will take up the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) collec-tion. Your support for this collection not only brings aid to victims of persecution and natural disasters, it pro-vides legal services to poor immigrants, and advocates for those with little or no power. Through your generosi-ty, the six Catholic agencies supported through this col-lection help our neighbors, near and far. Your gift provides more than physical nourishment. It brings hope. Through housing and educational projects funded through the CRS collection, you can help people around the world to be cared for and offer them a new start. Please contribute to this year’s CRS Collection. There are few collections more critical than this one. Your prayers and financial support allow these organizations to bring immediate assistance and the love of Christ to people in need across the globe. For more information on the organizations whose work benefits from your generosity, please visit www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak Bishop of Grand Rapids”

Fish Fry 2020

Our annual Lenten Fish Frys are up and running and we still need help for the remaining three!

Volunteer opportunities are available on different days and times. You can volunteer by yourself, with your spouse, kids or grandkids. We wel-come students who need community service hours.

It’s not too late to join us as a volun-teer. For more information and to schedule a time to help, contact our volunteer coordinator, Michelle Beisel at 616-970-0838.

Fish Fry Dessert Table

With three more Fish Frys to go, we can still use your donations of baked goods each week. If you would like to help, please bring your desserts on Fish Fry day to the Parish Office during school hours. Be sure to la-bel any non-disposable dishes. These dishes can be picked up in the Church conference room after all weekend Masses. Contact Marie LeMire at 260-4685 with any ques-tions.

Peter’s First Easter

Join us this coming Thursday, March 19th, 6:30-7:45pm as we gather in the Church for an emotional story that shows a wonder of God’s forgiveness through Peter’s earthly rela-tionship with Jesus. “Peter’s First Easter” story brings the true meaning of the Lord’s Crucifixion and Resurrection in a way that will remain in your heart forever. This presentation is suggested for adults and children seven years and older.

Preventing the spread of illness during cold and flu season

These guidelines come to us from the Diocese. During cold and flu season, and in general throughout the year, please follow these basic guidelines to help pre-vent the spread of illness in our parish:

If you suspect you have the flu or are suffering from a serious cold, please stay home. Your Sunday obligation is waived.

Cover your mouth/nose when coughing or sneezing. Wash hands frequently and for the appropriate length of time using soap and

water, or hand sanitizing products. Please do not hold hands during the “Our Father.” Instead of shaking hands during the sign of peace, clasp your hands together,

make eye contact with those around you, and say “Peace be with you,” or “Peace of Christ.”

If you are feeling sick, please receive Holy Communion in the hand, rather than on the tongue, and refrain from receiving Communion from the cup.
