Volume 3 Issue 11 | November, 2020 Thanksgiving & Giving Tuesday Thank You Members, Volunteers, Friends! While this has been a challenging year for each and every one of us, we are so grateful for you! Because of you, Alzheimers Coachella Valley has been able to continue serving our most vulnerable families – caregivers and their loved ones with dementia. We were able not only to continue our programs and services through Zoom live streaming, but even expanded to reach families who left for the summer. And extended our Traveling the Journey Together education program to alternating Fridays every month! Our Dementia Caregiver Training and Meaningful Conversations have continued to serve both professional and family caregivers with high quality education. And in response to urgent need, we even added a new bereavement support group for those who recently lost a loved one. This in addition to our three weekly caregiver support groups. Our services to our community are offered for free. Our volunteers are the best! They are an essential part of our organization and have given thousands of hours to ACV to help others in their struggle. Thanks to you, our generous donors and Programs are only a part of the daily workload Priscilla inherited. She manages all our office operations, helped change the format of our Zoom-adapted programs, coordinates and moderates them, among myriad other duties. We subcontract other professionals like Pam Bieri who writes our grant requests, newsletter and editorials, sets up television and radio interviews, oversees advertising, and assists with fundraising. ACV has become an asset to the community. We are here to stay. We have learned that as we continue to offer our programs and services that have become so important to our members, we also need to have paid professionals to keep our high quality of care intact. You are a blessing that allows ACV to exist. You have made a difference in the lives of our ACV members who are on an Alzheimer’s / dementia journey. Please continue your support on Giving Tuesday, December 1, through our Text to Give platform, GIVEACV to 44321. You may also visit our website donate page, www.cvalzheimers.org/donate . Consider a tax-deductible year-end gift or in memory of a loved one. Know that your gift of any amount uplifts our families’ spirits, provides support, comfort, resources and vital connection. We consider all we have and how blessed we are to have our country, our families, our friends, and our freedom. At ACV we are thankful that we can keep providing our services to our community. I wish all of you a very, happy Thanksgiving. Be safe. Stay healthy. But most of all, be sure to let your loved ones know how much they mean to you. Appreciate and accept them, one and all. This month we remember our dearEdie Keller, a founding board memberof Alzheimers Coachella Valley, wholost her battle with leukemia lastNovember.

Edie and Pat Kaplan's friendship goesback decades when Edie was lookingfor a place for her mother who sufferedfrom Alzheimer's. She found Pat, ownerof the former Inner Image in PalmSprings, then the only residentialcommunity dedicated to Alzheimer'sand memory care in the CoachellaValley.

Remembering Edie Keller

In 1998, Pat and Edie, with the supportof one of Edie's closest friends, the lateMaureen Reagan, founded the firstAlzheimer's Association office in theCoachella Valley.

Twenty years later, Pat and Edie joinedwith other community leaders toestablish Alzheimers Coachella Valley, the local nonprofit, to provide innovativeprograms and services to CoachellaValley families facing Alzheimer's anddementia.

Its office opened in the BergerCharitable Foundation Center inNovember, 2017.

Pat recalled a moment last year whenEdie, watching all the social fun at ClubJourney, remarked,“If there is anyquestion as to why I was put on theplanet…This is it!”

Please join us for a special MemorialCelebration on Friday, Nov. 13, 10a.m.
