Scholars believe the name Thanjavur is derived from Tanjan, a legendary demon in Hindu mythology.
While the early history of Thanjavur remains unclear, the city first rose to prominence during the reign of Medieval Cholas when it served as the capital of the empire. After the fall of Cholas, the city was ruled by various dynasties like Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire, Madurai Nayaks, Thanjavur Nayaks, Thanjavur Marathas and the British Empire.
Departure from Ernakulam Junction Railway Station by 16866 Ernakulam Karaikal Express at 22:05Hrs. Overnight on train.
Arrival at Thanjavur Railway Station by train no. 16866 at 08:43 Hrs.
Transfer by road to Kumbakonam.Check in to the hotel. After fresh up visit Adi Kumbeswara Temple and
Nageswaran Temple. Post Lunch relax at Hotel. Evening visit Sarangpani and Ramaswamy Temple. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in
Kumbakonam.
