Newsletter
I would like to welcome you to our first TRAA newsletter. We are all excited about this newsletter which will keep our members more informed about all events and activities for our TRAA members and our Junior TRAA members. This is something that many members have requested since I was elected president this past year. In addition, we will be selling ads for sponsors or members for the newsletter. The newsletter will be mailed to all of our TRAA members nine times a year. We can utilize this to pass along valuable information about things such as sales, shows, and any events that you as members need to know about.
Speaking of sales, the TRAA will be having a haltered sale at the Fort Worth Stock Show, Saturday January 29, 2011, at 5:00 PM next to the open show show arena. We are also having a spring sale April 9th, 2011, at the West Auction Sale Barn in West, Texas, located just south of Fort Worth. We are looking forward to many new and exciting events and shows for our TRAA members. Hopefully we can keep our members more informed about upcoming events.
I hope to see you at our TRAA banquet Friday, January 28th, 2011, in the French Room located on the grounds of the FWSS from 7-10 PM. Everyone is invited! There will be an auction with many great semen packages and other items donated by our members and sponsors. Don’t miss it! Some of the proceeds will go to our Junior TRAA program.
Speaking of sponsors, we have had a great response this year from the following businesses: Lone Star Farm and Ranch, Elanco, Pfizer, RDL Supply, Redi-Mix Concrete, Texhoma Minerals, and Olympian Genetics. I would like to extend a huge “thank you” for all of our sponsors. I am looking forward to seeing everyone soon at our upcoming TRAA events.
Thanks,Tony Clark

Jr News aNd INformatIoNBy: Alyssa Looney
Dear Texas Red Angus Juniors,
Show season is finally in full swing! I am sure everyone is busy getting their cattle into tip-top shape for competition in the show ring. If you are anything like I am, you are constantly busy while at a show. You have to wash, feed, and walk your cattle, and when you are not busy with them, you are catching up with friends that you only get to see this time of the year. Even with all of that going on, make sure to spare some time for the Texas Junior Red Angus Association, because we will be having something going on at all of the shows! Watch for announcements at the major stock shows for when meetings and socials will be held. If you have never attended one of these meetings, you are missing out! These meetings vary from show to show, but the most memorable often involve games (there is usually a barn-wide scavenger hunt at Houston!) and food! Plus, you get to meet many other juniors who love the same thing: showing Red Angus cattle! Some of my greatest friends are ones that I have met through showing Red Angus. These meetings will also be the place to keep up to date on all information about the Texas and National Junior Red Angus Associations. For those of you that are seniors or college students, do not forget about applying for the Texas Red Angus scholarship. You can find the application on the Texas Red Angus website. There are also scholarships available on the national level, so check out that application at redangus.org. You want to try to get all of the money you can for college, believe me! Besides scholarships, there are also many other ways to get involved on the national level. The Junior Red Angus Round-Up will be held in Kansas and Missouri this year from June 21-26. Every year at Round-Up, you get to travel around a different state to see Red Angus ranches and other agricultural facilities, tour different universities, compete in contests, and make great friends! Texas has always had a large junior group at this event that places well in the contests. I would love to see that continue! Registration and some contest entries are due May 1st, so check out redangus.org for more information. I hope that you will get involved in our great junior organization. There are so many opportunities available for you in this breed. I hope to see y’all around the barns at the shows and in the show ring!
