Welcome to the Red TopAngus dispersal sale - it’swith mixed emotions that Ihave decided to disperse buttime and change haveteamed up to pursuade methat it’s what I need to do.The one thing I can say isthat I am really proud of thisherd of cattle and whatthey’ve done for me - I amconfident that they will con-tinue to do a lot of good for alot of people across the coun-try and welcome you to stopby anytime before the sale toappriase them for yourselves.

In 1979 I went to Griffis’Summer Female Sale andhappened to ride over withJim Wallace of Spear HeadAngus and Jim Good of RedLine Angus. This was the first

time I met Jim Good (he was delivering a red bull in the eastcountry). On the way home after the sale Jim Good found out Iclipped cattle so in the spring he called and wanted some bullsclipped and I said, “Sure”. The bulls I was going to clip were atGrant Moore’s feedlot and I think I did 150 bulls at the time forthe 3 sales they had - one in High River, one in Kamloops andone in Camrose.

I continued on buying a few black cattle but soon I saw howgood the Red Angus were selling and changed the color of cattle Iwas buying. Then in 1981 Jim Good took me down to Boot Jackat Moccasin, Montana. After going through 400+ females andcalves, I selected twelve cows and purchased them. Some ofthose females’ offspring are still in the herd and will be in this sale.

The next step I took was in 1983 when I purchased threehead of yearling heifers out of the Red Line “Sellabration” - RedFFC 167A (the Septima female family) for $8250, Red Line Cop-per Lady 28P at $5400 and Red Line Kuruba 50P at $7500. A fullsister to 167A sold that day to Jake White for $6000.

Prior to 1983 I somehow became the President of the “RedAngus Club of Alberta” (those were great meetings in Olds!!) andthat was the start of the first Red Angus show in Canada - it washeld at Lloydminster. We had a show as well as a heifer calf salewhere I purchased the Lakima 1S female from Towaw and thatlineage is still in the herd.

The next big leap I took was in 1984 when I purchasedtwelve females for a total cost of $54,000 - but prior to this I hadalso purchased five head from Jim privately and in the privatepurchase was Red Line Goldie 7P which everyone knows about.RT 40U, whose dam was Red Line Goldie 40K and 40U pro-duced Red Knight... but Red Line Goldie 7P was out of a sister to40K and by Red Dynamo 614 and this is where the Red TopGoldie 1B family comes from which you will see some embryosout of.

It has been a great pleasure to have been part of the RedAngus industry working on the Canadian Red Angus PromotionSociety, Red Round-up and the Red Angus Club of Alberta. We,as a Red Angus group, have accomplished great things in theseyears and I am looking foward to seeing you on October 21,2012, at the Mega Dome in Olds, Alberta! I also invite you tocome to the Mega Dome the night before to inspect the cattleand enjoy some hospitality. Welcome to the Red Top “Complete & Total” Dispersal sale ... right down to the semen tank and theshow equipment! Rod’s really cleanin’ house so he’s selling the broom, too!!

I can hardly believe my “little buddy”, Rod Lorenz, is going through with it! We started talking abouta dispersal sale two years ago and now it’s upon us. Several people have asked me, “Why did you putRod’s sale on the heels of the mighty Red Round-up event?” The Mackenzie Sales Management an-swer to that is very simple - if there ever was one person to deserve to have his dispersal on the RedRound-up weekend it would have to be Rod Lorenz. He has devoted his entire life to this breed - notonly by showing cattle all over this country and promoting them unselfishly for the betterment of its exis-tence, he’s also sat on countless boards and committees including the Promotion Society (I think Rodwas the president of the Canadian Red Angus Promotion Society for about 100 years!). I truly respect,admire and cherish the time Rod gave to this breed and the job he did when he was in charge. We owehim a tremendous amount of gratitude for putting Red Angus where it is today due to his service.Thank You, Rod!!

Not very often do I let the consignor write their own footnotes but Rod wanted to say things abouthis cows in his own way and I believe it shines through brightly just how much Rod loves his cows whenyou read his own words in this book.

If you are looking for a herdbull, look at Lot #1. I am not sure there has been a better yearling of-fered ever before, especially when you see how he summered after being exposed to all 70 head in thissale. He’s a stud!!

Lastly, the heifer calves... what a set of 2012 born, absolutely stunning beauties! Come and getone or a truck load of a piece of Red Top History.

Rod had a bull wreck in the 2011 breeding season with a bull so he got to usethe Arson bull for a couple of weeks to clean-up. It has been a great pleasure to have purchased 55Y and been able to haveowned one of the great young sires even if it is for a short time that I will haveowned him. I have been able to analyze him from every direction possible to haveexposed him to 70 head of which about 30 head were A.I.’ed and some being handbred to him. He has developed and maintained himself remarkably well. At my fieldday he was admired by all. He is a well balanced bull and moves with that fluid mo-tion walking square and free. Red Brylor Arson 55Y is a proud bull - when he stands or moves he carries hishead and neck like a herd bull should - out of the top part of the shoulder with a veryattractve head shape. He has got lots of top that comes down into a nice formedshoulder. He has good spring of rib with volume in his mid-section and a nice rearquarter and huge testicles that hang well. He stands on a great hoof also. I do be-lieve this bull will go down in history as being great and I believe those achieve-ments will happen while he is still a young bull.

I flushed a few cows and the ones I did had to be proven to me

as a top producer from matings on a number of different sires. So,having said that, they were not in the “prime of life”.

The reason for these matings - Bryan was selecting for Red Round-up and hewanted the two year old by RT Mr Universe 87W but, if not, the yearling heifer bySam’s Prospector. I said “No”, I wanted to keep the two year old so he took theyearling and she sold for $6000 to Moens’ in Saskatchewan.

Then, just like my bad luck seems to happen at times, the two year old bloatedand died on me! However, she was an awesome female so don’t be scared of theseembryos by 87W - they will really surprise you by how good this mating is!

3. DISPuTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between theparties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the personfrom whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s deci-sion in such matter will be final.

4. AnnOuncEmEnTS: Any changes from information in this cataloguewill be announced from the auction block, such changes will take prece-dence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cau-tioned to pay close attention to any such announcements.
