The spike
The spike is the real action packed part of volley ball. The spike is struck, with as much power as possible to drive the ball into the opponents court.
Tips.
Begin by practising over head shots while keeping both feet on the ground.
Hit the ball firmly with a cupped hand position.
Watch the ball closely.
As you become consistent with the position, try jump slightly off the floor before spiking the ball.

Jumping and blocking
It is important to remember that when jumping in the game of volley ball, all forward movement to the net must be directed upwards.
Practice tips.
You can practice by taking two steps forward and jump upward.
Aim to land on the same spot that you took off from.
The block is the defensive play set up by a team to counter the spike from the other team.
The blocker jumps with an arm extended in an effort to block the ball
When learning to block, be careful not to touch the net or cross the centre line.
