Deputy Principal’s Report
I write this term’s Deputy Report on the evening of our Mysteries of High School Day. This fantastic year 6 transition
event saw us open our doors to nearly 300 very special young guests and their parents. A full program of interactive
activities, food and fun was enjoyed by all thanks to the considerable efforts of our committed staff. We look forward
to welcoming a large sector of our year six guests as genuine members of our school community in 2020.
Term three has also seen us celebrate several nation days of action. We participated in Wear it Purple Day to raise
awareness and show support for our rainbow youth and the national RU OK day, raising awareness for mental
health and wellbeing. As always, our students continue to develop their sense of community and social conscious
in showing support for initiatives such as these.
The annual year 12 CAPA Soiree was also a huge success. The HSC Visual Art major works were of a very high
calibre this year with many social and personal themes being explored. These included waste and environmental
issues, personal loss and grief, the fragility of the human psyche, the ever increasing impact of technology, bullying
and many more. Our music students also had a moment to shine, performing with enthusiasm in front of peers,
families and visitors from other schools. We wish them the very best for the marking of these impressive bodies of
work.
We would also like to acknowledge our relieving Head Teacher of Social Science, Ms Jen Henriques. During this
term we received the exciting news that Ms Henriques has been awarded a Premier’s Scholarship. Both Mrs
Jurcevic and I joined Ms Henriques at the award ceremony at Parliament House where she was presented her
scholarship from Gladys Berejiklian. This prestigious and competitive award enables Ms Henriques to explore
educational research in the area of VET Education. We wish her well on her travels and look forward to the work
she produces.
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program continues to build momentum in the school with the recent
launch of the PBL shop. A truly impressive array of prizes are in stock ready to be claimed by students who collect
their REACH tokens for positive behaviour. We encourage all students to “get caught” doing the right thing to earn
the tokens. The student portal has the full prize catalogue and order forms for you to explore. Get shopping girls.
Another long awaited result has happened during term three – blue pants as part of our uniform are finally here.
These comfortable and stylish options replace the tartan pants we currently have. They have been approved by
our Parents and Citizen’s group and are going into production now. Stay tuned for the date they are available for
purchase from the uniform shop next to Liverpool City Library.
Term three has also seen us welcome a new SAM to lead our SASS staff. Julie Nurthen has quickly become a
valued part of our team and has proved to be adaptable and a very fast learner. We wish her well as she navigates
the new role.
Finally, Mrs Jurcevic and I would like to wish all our Year 12 students the very best of luck as they head into the
HSC. Use the holiday period well to revise, prepare and rest as this busy time awaits.
Avryl Queffert and Linda Jurcevic

Library News Term 3
Book Week was from 17-23rd August.
We sold more old books for 20-50c for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, raising another $35.00
This will allow further Book Packs to be bought for families in remote areas of Australia to
encourage reading.
We have made two more blankets for the charity Wrapped With Love. I would like to thank Mrs
Dalal Wannous (Sally and Sandy Wannous in Year 12) and Mrs Intiqal Al Khameesi (Ema Al-
Khameesi in 7R4) who have supported our charity work with their wonderful knitting skills.
If any other parents would like to join in knitting they would be very welcome. We meet in the
Library on Thursdays from 1.30-2.00 but a Knitting group is also available through Liverpool City
Library.
Share the joy of reading.
Mrs Knott (Library Teacher),

Sport Report
Oz Tag
Liverpool Girls High School competed in the SSW regional Oz Tag gala day hosted by the NSW Oz Tag.
The gala day was held at Victoria Park Minto on Wednesday 3rd July. We registered five teams. One Year
7 and 8 team, two Year 9 and 10 teams and two Year 11 and 12 teams. The Year 7 and 8 team playing
in their first tournament did well and honed their Oz tag skill while taking out wins against Moss Vale and
Cecil Hills, however, were unable to progress to the finals.
The Year 9 and 10 ‘A’ team played well and showed excellent sportsmanship in a tough pool, but came
away with some well-deserved draws. The ‘B’ team played exceptionally well winning all but one of their
pool matches and progressing to the semi-finals where they met Bankstown Girls HS. This was an
extremely tight match with Harmony scoring in the last 10 secs in the corner to win the 3-2. They met
Ambervale HS in the final and even though they lost in the round matches to this school, they were able
to win the grand final 5-0. An exceptional effort by the girls.
The Year 11 and 12 ‘A’ team played well throughout the tournament showing exceptional skill, teamwork
and sportsmanship. They progressed through the pool rounds convincingly and met Cecil Hills in the semi-
final. They worked hard and won the match 1-0. The grand final was played against St Patrick’s Catholic
College, who they have met several times at the grand final stage of this event. This year St Patricks won
5-0. The ‘B’ team also produced some great team performances and improved their skills throughout the
day while always displaying quality sportsmanship.
The Champions and runners up were invited to compete in the Champion of Champions event held at The
Kingsway Playing Fields at Werrington along with all the winners and runners up from 12 other regional
tournaments throughout NSW. It was a great 2-day tournament had by all, with some tough competition

This year we had the most students qualify for the SSW Zone and Regional Athletics. Our girls applied themselves diligently, most notably Gordon Walker first in discus, Meekah Chang 3rd in high jump and Keira Whittingham 6th in the finals of the 200m sprint. We are very proud of all our athletes and applaud the efforts and passion our students showed throughout each events.

PA4E1 Update
Our school has been involved
in the Physical Activity For
Everyone program for the last
two years. The aim of this
program run by The
University of Newcastle in
collaboration with NSW
Health, is to improve student
physical activity patterns in
order to address the current
epidemic of childhood obesity
and sedentary lifestyles.
Liverpool Girls High School
has provided our students
with more opportunities to be
active in break times, access
free sporting equipment and
develop healthy behaviours
that are lifelong.
We as a school, have provided
positive data with the most
marked improvements in
physical activity levels to these
organisations which has
resulted in our school leading
this state wide study.
As the study comes to a close,
we as a supportive school will
be implementing these positive
practices to maintain a healthy
learning environment for our
students.

Dance Report
In the Spotlight Dance Festival
In the Spotlight Dance Festival is a great opportunity for all
students to participate in. It showcases the talent of
students across all participating schools. It’s an amazing
experience to perform in front of an audience and
showcase the hard work that went into a dance piece.
The dance groups from our school that attended was the
year 11 and 12 senior group. The senior group dance was
about unity as a group and the dance was beautiful lyrical
piece.
The other group that was successful was the LGHS
Performance Group, which consists of students from years
8 to 12. This dance was about the battle between good
and evil, and the dance was a high energy contemporary
piece. A lot of dedication and after school rehearsals, went
into these two dance groups to make it into the dance
festival. It’s very rewarding to make it in as all the hard
work had paid off. Being successful in the audition process
and to have been given the opportunity to perform such an
amazing pieces. - Madison Terry
Bring it on Hip Hop Competition
Earlier this year Liverpool girls was given the chance to combine with Liverpool boys and compete together in Bring It On. At first it wasn’t easy as we all didn’t know each other that well. With getting to know each other better, we worked as a team to get the job done. On the 21st of June all our hard work, sweat, tears came down to this. Even though we didn’t get the result that we all wanted, we all had a great time and it was an amazing experience. Later on we all got news that we had a second chance to compete in the grand final. We knew that the competition was going to be greater and harder. These past few week was have been putting in our time and efforts into this dance. On the 7th of September we will be performing our dance in front of hundreds of people. This journey throughout Bring It On has truly been a blessing. With guiding hands from our teachers, we were able to have fun and just dance. During this time we have made friendships and may even became a family. No doubt this has been a blessing to work alongside students that love to move.
