POEM
I let my sister cut my hair
I had to get a haircut.
It was looking much too long.
I let my sister cut it.
I mean, what could she do wrong?
She clipped some bald spots here and there.
She whacked the sides a little.
And then she shaved a three-inch stripe
directly down the middle.
She chopped some sections super short,
left others long and wild,
then shaved one eyebrow off before
she looked at me and smiled.
I don’t think that I’ll let her
give me haircuts anymore.
Or maybe I’ll just wait a while;
at least until she’s four.

Monday Writing - Persuasive Language
Persuasive Text Example
Read and underline the strong persuasive words. The first one is
done for you.
Dogs Make Better Pets than Cats
Have you ever thought about getting a pet? Most people usually
try and decide between a dog or a cat. I’m going to give you some
great reasons why you must get a dog instead of a cat.
One reason why you should absolutely get a dog instead of a cat
is because dogs are extremely loyal. They always wag their tail
when you come home because they are glad to see you. When
they get lost, they always try to come back home to see you.
Secondly, I strongly believe that dogs are a lot more playful and
fun to have as pets than cats. Dogs love spending time with their
owners and going for walks. They love to do a lot of activities
with humans, like going running, camping, and swimming too!
Finally, you have to get a dog instead of a cat because dogs are
really helpful to humans. Dogs can be trained to guard, hunt, and
protect. They can also be guides for people who are blind.
These are just some of the reasons why I certainly believe dogs
make better pets than cats. If you are considering getting a pet,
definitely get a dog. You’ll be glad you did.
Persuasive Sentences
Pick three of the persuasive words that you underlined and write 3
persuasive sentences - remember give a reason using ‘because’.
Example:
- I believe Mr Pitt should put a swimming pool in the school
because it gets extremely hot in summer and we would be
able to have swimming lessons every week.
