Page 2: Africa my africa poem

Africa my Africa

Page 3: Africa my africa poem

Africa of proud warriors in ancestral savannahs.

Page 4: Africa my africa poem

Africa of whom my grandmother sings

Page 5: Africa my africa poem

On the banks of the distant river, I have never known you

Page 6: Africa my africa poem

But your blood flows in my veins.

Page 7: Africa my africa poem

Your beautiful black body that irrigates the fields.

Page 8: Africa my africa poem

The blood of your sweat

Page 9: Africa my africa poem

The sweat of your work, the work of your slavery.

Page 10: Africa my africa poem

Africa, tell me Africa

Page 11: Africa my africa poem

Is this you, this back that is bent, this back that breaks

Page 12: Africa my africa poem

Under the weight of humiliation

Page 13: Africa my africa poem

This back trembling with red scars

Page 14: Africa my africa poem

And saying no to the whip under the midday sun, but a grave voice answers me

Page 15: Africa my africa poem

Splendidly alone amidst white and faded flowers

Page 16: Africa my africa poem

This is your Africa springing up anew

Page 17: Africa my africa poem

Springing up patiently, obstinately

Page 18: Africa my africa poem

Whose fruit bit by bit acquires, the bitter taste of liberty
