These tests are compulsory for all students in Grade 3&5, with exceptions only for children who have been made exempt through written notice to their teacher. We do have a catch up day on Friday the 12 th May for any child absent for any test. The results of these tests are sent to parents in September after off-site marking of papers. If your child is unable to participate in the lesson please write this on your school forms, however please understand they will attend the venue with their class as this is where their class teacher will be. For those few children not swimming please ensure they have a favourite book in their bag for the lesson duration (45 minutes). Any questions regarding swimming please see Mrs Pashen who is the teacher in charge. New Canteen We have a very interested group in providing a canteen service to our school. This canteen supplier has many very healthy options. We will only be able to sustain a service if the demand is evident based on real sales from our community. Your feedback will be crucial. We will supply you with marketing material in the next week regarding the new options available. Exciting News Mathletics Silver and Gold Mathletics winners were announced at assembly last week. I would like also to congratulate Paxton (gold) and Eliza and Noah (silver) on their maths achievements. Please remember that Mathletics is a program based on persistence and I am very proud of these children meeting these milestones!

Uniform Shop Hours Every Wednesday

8:15am – 9:00am

Term 2 Dates for

2017 Thursday 27th April

until

Friday 30th June

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Uniform

Uniform is an imperative aspect of

Pioneer Village School and we pride our

school on our presentation and values. We will be working with parents and

students to ensure our uniforms are

presented correctly, neatly and with

pride. Please refer to the website or

Parent Handbook for guidelines. Please

help us to present students well.

Absence From The School

The school does not normally allow

leave for holidays during regular school

time. Under exceptional circumstances,

leave may be obtained by applying in

writing to the Principal. No reduction of fees will be applied due to absence

from the school as fixed costs in

running the school will not be reduced

as a result of temporary absence by

individual students form the school.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons will commence this term on Monday 15th May 2017.

Please ensure your child comes to school with their swimming attire on underneath their PVS sports uniform each day. They also need to have a swimming bag with their thongs,

goggles, towel and under garments.

Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name. No money or valuables are to be packed

please.

Athletics Sports

Mrs Flood will once again lead the school athletics program and this is well

underway. The date for the carnival is the 26th May 2017. This event will be held at

Ern Clark Athletics Centre in Cannington. We will need family support to host

events, and I will certainly need some assistance on the high jump. Please come

dressed with your running gear for the parent race at the end of the day!

School Support Teacher Meetings

Please be aware that school support meetings are held on the 23rd & 24th May

after school until 5:30pm. These are special meetings designed for parents to

have some additional contact time with the class teacher. These meetings are

primarily for special needs children, children with disabilities or gifts or minority

groups, however if you need additional feedback please discuss this with your

child’s teacher so that you can make an appointment.

After School Sport - Soccer

Children registered in after school sport begin Tuesday the 16th May (PP- Grade 3)

and Wednesday the 17th May (Grade 4-6). Please ring Mrs Shaw in reception if

you have any questions.

Mother’s Day Stall $10

Children (K4 – Grade 6) will be offered a timeslot to attend the Mother’s Day stall

or Wednesday the 10th May, Kindergarten 3 on the Thursday 11th May. We hope

you love your gift!

Learning is Alive in Year 2/3 with Mrs Flood

In Year 2/3 the LEARNING is certainly alive! We have been completing spelling challenges in class and

working our way through Spelling City tasks. We are all achieving higher reading levels this term and

Year 2/3 F are on task and have achieved between 25 and 50 nights already. We have been studying

Narrative and Persuasive writing genres. We have been busy Authors in the making by planning,

writing and now typing Easter Narratives. We are working very hard in Mathematics and the students

are really enjoying Mathletics, achieving pleasing results. Our First Contacts unit of HASS is under way,

we are enjoying this rich learning experience. In Science, we are in the midst of Physical Sciences. The

Year 2 students are focusing on Push and Pull, what is force and what causes movement. The Year 3

students are learning about what causes heat and how is it produced, how heat transfers and

recognising that we can feel heat and measure its effects using a thermometer. We are enjoying being

hands on Scientists by completing investigations and experiments along the way. We are looking

forward to continuing to ‘Aim for Excellence’ to reach our full potential in 2017!

Community Health with Fiona Evans

Colds

Upper respiratory tract infections or colds are everywhere, especially in winter, so it is almost impossible to stop children

from catching them. Here are some points which may help:

Teach your child to cover his/her nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, and to wash hands straight afterwards.

Hands should be washed after blowing noses and before eating.

Use tissues once and then throw them in the bin. (Avoid using handkerchiefs.)

Keep your child home from school if he/she has a cold/cough/fever/pain.

Make sure that your children eat a balanced diet of plenty of healthy foods.

Keep children away from smoke – it irritates their eyes and nasal passages, making it more likely that they will catch a cold.

What to do if your child gets a cold

No treatment will cure a cold or make it go away more quickly, but you can help your child feel more comfortable:

Rest: This need not be in bed.

Provide extra drinks: If your child doesn’t want to drink much, try giving lots of small sips of water, milk or juice, or iceblocks to suck for older children.
