TERM 1 WEEK 8 OATLEY WEST LANTERN - The school by the park 16.3.2020
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Communication during COVID-19 You can follow updates on novel coronavirus (COVID-19) using a number of channels. As always, the school will be the primary source of information relating to COVID-19 and school specific information. Could I urge parents to download the NSW School Updates app to get alerts straight to your phone: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/practical-help-for-parents-and-carers/nsw-school-updates-app
Our school website has the most recent information from the Depart-ment of Education.
Health advice for schools The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is the same way you would protect yourself from catching flu or other respiratory illness-es.
1. Wash your hands Clean your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or use alcohol-based sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol.
2. Cough etiquette Cover your sneeze or cough with your elbow or with a tissue (and dispose of it immediately). Avoid close contact with people who are ill. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
3. Stay home if you are sick If your child is unwell with a respira-tory illness they should remain at home until symptoms clear up.
We are reminding students of these three protections regularly. I have doubled the amount of soap dispensers in all student toilets to 4 to allow for a quicker access and students are encouraged to ‘air dry’ their hands.

The cleaning company has been asked to be extra vigilant in wiping down desks and clean-ing toilets.
We have been lucky enough to get some anti-septic wipes for teachers to use at their discre-tion in classrooms.
From today there will be no formal assemblies with our whole school assembly being conduct-ed via the PA system at the same time after re-cess.
The ten minute eating time will be held in class-rooms where students will be monitored to wash their hands before eating.
We will continue to request students wash their hands before entering the classroom each morning, after recess and after lunch.
Could you please support these measures by reinforcing at home and if your child does show symptoms of respiratory illness that you keep them at home.
Healthy Harold will be going ahead as planned this week however lessons will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room not in the van.
We have had a few enquiries this morning as to why I haven’t closed the school. This is not my call and I am following Department of Education directives which are being informed by the De-partment of Health. I am being proactive with all the measures we are being called to imple-ment.
A reminder to all parents about absences. When-
ever your child returns from a day away from
school, then an explanation must be provided.
This explanation can be made via phone, or our
Skoolbag app. Your support with this is appreciat-
ed.
Invoices for 2020 have been issued. Your support
is greatly appreciated. This money targets our
strategic directions in the school and buys much
needed resources for all of our children.
Please be aware to let your children know if they
bump their head to let the teacher on duty know,
their own teacher or the office, no matter how
slight the bump. We take all head injuries serious-
ly, no matter how minor.
V A L U E F O R T H E W E E K E X C E L L E N C E Always try your personal best. Celebrate your achievements and the achievements of others. Be proud of your school. Enjoy learning.
BEYBLADES STAY HOME
Due to the large number of students (approximately 150) exiting the demountable classes at the end of the school day, we kindly re-quest that from Monday 16th March, you wait on the basketball court to collect your child. This will reduce the congestion around the demountable pathways and the likelihood of any accidents oc-curring as children try to exit with their bicycles.
We appreciate your support in providing a safe exit for our students.
Thank you, Stage 2 Teachers

LIBRARY NEWS
Please keep Beyblades at home
Over the course of the last few weeks, we have seen an increase in the number of students bringing Beyblades to school. They have be-come extremely disruptive to the learning envi-ronment and have created incidents where stu-dents are being injured, or upset when they get lost or broken. We have thus taken the decision to place a ban on Beyblades at school. Any Beyblades brought to school will be confis-cated and passed directly to the parent/carers/OOSH picking the children up. K. Thieson
Stage 3 have been investi-
gating Staying Safe Online,
by looking at their Digital
Footprint. Your digital foot-
print is a trail of “footprints”
that you leave behind, every
time you go online. A great
way to map your internet
usage and therefore your
digital footprint, is to write
down all the ways you use the internet.

The Uniform Shop is open for your convenience
every Thursday from 9-10am at the end of G
Block. This onsite service would not be available
without our wonderful volunteers.
All uniform requirements are outlined on the
School website, including our exchange and
ordering processes.
Thank You: Many thanks to Belinda P who vol-
unteered at the Uniform Shop last week.
Winter Uniform: Winter uniform is not yet available for over the counter sales and is not worn until the day after Mother’s Day (11th May).
If your order for winter uniform hasn’t already been placed, stock cannot be guaranteed. Our request for parents to pre-order winter uni-form has received a disappointing response.
A final order for additional stock will be placed with our suppliers at the end of this week with any orders for bootleg pants placed after this, no longer guaranteed.
Some stock items which are custom-made, can take between 8-12 weeks to arrive.
NB: Accounts for pre-orders will not be debited and cheques not presented until stock arrives and is ready for delivery. This will be communi-cated via Skoolbag.
Orders: All orders are delivered on Thursday when the shop is open, provided the order form is placed in Letterbox No. 8 in the front court-yard of the school by 9.30am.
NB: Orders are not accepted via email
We take great pride in the appearance of the
children at Oatley West Public School and en-
courage all students to wear the correct school
uniform.
UNIFORM SHOP SCHOOL BANKING
TERM 1 WEEK 8 OATLEY WEST LANTERN - The school by the park 16.3.2020
Many thanks to our wonderful parents, Lily P, Jia L, Angel D, Tina Y and Chole X who volunteered to process School banking deposits last Thursday. Why School Banking? School Banking encourages kids to save a little money each week (any amount) into their Youth-saver account, helping them learn about the value of money and develop a good saving habit. By getting them to fill out their deposit slip each week…. Stage 1 (a) students, practice writing their names, (b) identify difference between letters and numbers. Stage 2 & 3 (c) increase their general knowledge, what animals are on our coins? (d) Understand how a calendar works by filling in the ‘date’ on the deposit slip. (e) by giving them loose change, they get better at counting. (f) by watching your child complete the deposit slip, you get instant feedback on how well your child is counting, writing etc …. What’s the best way to get my child started in school banking? Visit any CBA branch with your child’s I/D. The banking staff will be able to assist. If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, please contact [email protected] https://www.commbank.com.au/content/dam/commbank-assets/banking/school-banking/2020-01/reward-redemption-slip.pdf
