It is a joy to see how our students have progressed so well in such a short time, especially in our ECE classes. What is exciting, is to see classes involved with Talk for Writing and the work they are producing. Numeracy in the upper classes is well organised and students are given opportunities to work at their appropriate levels. Consistently, we must celebrate how well the students uphold the Values of our school and thank parents for supporting us to build a positive school environment. At times we need to reflect on the areas we can improve in and encourage feedback from our community. Thank you to the parents who volunteer in classrooms to provide support for Literacy and Numeracy. You are all really appreciated. Rainbow and Superheroes Day On Wednesday March 21 st , we had Camp Quality visit our school to provide a puppet show. This performance highlighted the awareness of Childhood Cancer and how support and understanding can be provided by the community. Well done to the students who came as Rainbow Superheroes and brought a gold coin as a donation to Camp Quality. Staff Car Park near the Drive Through Parents please do not park in the Staff Car Park at all. It is creating issues with safety for students and creates problems when staff have to leave after school. It also creates problems with the exit onto Chidzey Drive. Edu Dance Concerts To complete the Edu Dance program, we will be having two concerts. Due to the volume of students and parents, siblings cannot be included in the audiences. We are trying to ensure that visibility is the best it can be and ask your cooperation in this. Over the next three weeks we have much to do with the Easter break in the middle. We look forward to sharing our Harmony Week and ANZAC ceremony with you all. Kind regards Keryl Caird PRINCIPAL

Revenge Monster Truck Visit - 9th March 2018

Term 1 Week 8 WILLANDRA PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

WOW! What a start to the day. It is not every day that you get a MONSTER TRUCK rock up to your school for all to see. That is what happened here at Willandra on Friday 9

th MARCH. How and why did that happen, I hear

you ask. Perth radio station, ‘96FM’, had run a competition inviting the community to nominate a school to receive a visit from a MONSTER TRUCK. It turned out that Willandra got the most nominations and we won the competition out of 250 schools. When it was all explained to Mr Smith on Wednesday, he was informed of the only catch to finalising our win; he had to speak on the radio to Lise and Paul who host the breakfast show. To add to the surprise of the announcement, it was decided to do it all in front of the whole school at Thursday’s assembly. You could hear from the kids’ response that they were extremely excited about the visit as they all screamed the loudest they had ever screamed. The time came on Friday for the MONSTER TRUCK to arrive. Parents and kids had started to gather on the oval from 7am. Everyone was very excited. And there it came along Strawberry Drive to the entrance to the oval. OOPS! The entrance was not big enough, so the MONSTER TRUCK, on the back of a semi-trailer, parked on the verge for all to see. The crowd, which had grown, took the change in parking position in their stride and moved closer to the MONSTER TRUCK to start taking photos. Rusty, the driver, gave a speech to everyone. As it neared the time for school to start, the students started taking themselves off to their classes without any fuss. The Year 3s to 6s were brought to the oval just before the siren so we could have a welcoming party for Lise and Paul, who were going to wrap up their breakfast show from Willandra. They drove on to the oval, got out of their car and the kids went wild with an enthusiastic Willandra welcome. Interviews were had with Mr Smith, Taj H and Jorja M. It was then time to have photos. Every class had their photo taken in front of the MONSTER TRUCK. The kids were so well behaved and patient whilst waiting for their turn. I was so proud of them all. A BIG thank you to everyone, who took the time to nominate/write about our wonderful school; Willandra. Your collective effort saw the kids rewarded with an AMAZING experience; one I am sure they will remember for a long time. A thank you also to the staff who came with their classes and helped with the smooth running of the morning. The overall behaviour of our students proved to the crew from 96FM that we were worthy winners of the MONSTER TRUCK competition. I received this from one of the 96FM representatives; ‘Thank you so very much for this morning – we all had a ball and were so impressed with all of the students. What a great school environment you provide – they are very lucky to be part of such a great school community’. Mark Smith DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
