Principal Message

Dear Parents,

This is the final newsletter for the term. I hope everyone has a well deserved holiday and is able to enjoy

time with family and friends. This has been a busy term. Congratulations to our Kindergarten students who have completed their first full term of school. Our Kindergarten students are very settled and now very familiar with school routines and organisation.

Our house team meeting held on Tuesday this week was an important student welfare initiative that promotes positive relationships between all students K-6. Our winning house this term was New-combe and they received ice blocks as a reward. Our Year 6 student leaders organised peer support activ-ities for their team groups. We will hold similar meetings and activities each term this year.

The weather was excellent and we had an extremely successful 2017 Girraween Show Day on Wednesday, everyone enjoyed the food, drinks and activities for the afternoon. Thank you everyone who came along and supported this important annual fundraiser for our school. I would also like to thank every-one involved in the organisation of our Show Day, especially Miss Neradovsky who coordinated planning and preparations.

Our final activity for the end of term was the Years 6 students verse teachers volleyball match. Always great fun, and congratulations to the teachers who continued their winning in these contests!

I will be on leave for the first three weeks of term 2. Mrs Needham will be relieving principal during that time and Mrs Walker will be relieving deputy principal.

Hopefully we have seen the last of the constant rain and can enjoy sunshine for our Easter break.

Good luck to your teams. Can Parramatta return to the winning circle?

Happy Easter everyone.

Regards,

G. Walker

The students in 5P have being learning how to include S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and maths) also S.T.E.A.M. (which includes Art) in the classroom.

They were given a small project to introduce them to the subject. Students had to create something useful or beautiful or fun (or combined) using a cardboard box. They had an interesting time designing, thinking and imagining what they could create and then finally presenting their creation to the class.

We have now moved on and the students are currently designing shade/cover for outside our classroom. This is much more involved. They have to design, measure, collect information and cost for the materials along with the cost to build the project. The groups will then present a formal proposal which will include their design, costing and possible model.

This is a complicated project which will not be completed until the middle of next term. Perhaps we willhave some budding engineers or builders.

Stay tuned for the completed ideas.
