PREVENTION IN MALAYSIA

Health prevention in Malaysia is fairly low despite the many health campaigns and public awareness programs organised by the Malaysian Government.

Malaysians are mostly unaware of early symptoms and signs until it is too late for cure – “Curable” disease (cancer, heart problems)– “Incurable” disease (HIV)

Undeniably, more lives could be saved if Malaysians were more aware of the situation before it is too late.

PREVENTION IN MALAYSIA

Malaysians are slowly accepting the use of technology in daily life.

Malaysian Health Ministry has also established an official website to promote healthy lifestyles

However, most still prefer traditional methods – Newspapers– Health pamphlets– Articles– Books

INTERNET PURPOSEObvious drop in the purpose of Internet usage

for all three survey groups was for Health purposes.

It is surprising how people on the whole are able to be very concerned about overall health but yet remain adamant in searching for health related information

Immediate action has to be taken to create public awareness on the abundance of health information mainly for prevention of diseases that are placed on the Internet

MEDIUM OF INFORMATION

Newspapers and Television play a major role in relaying information for most age groups.

Therefore, we should use such mediums to promote Teleprevention and create awareness in the community.

The Internet is also seen to play a fair amount in spreading information

INTERNET AS A TELEPREVENTION TOOL

People below the age of 60 highly agree that Internet is the best tool for Teleprevention

However, only 40% of the sample age above 60 agree to that statement.

This could be partly due to the lack of exposure to the Internet on their part and would prefer a more traditional approach.

All groups have associated health prevention with modern medicine.
