With an aim to create technical awareness among the

engineering students, the IETE Membership Enrolment for

Students of ECE & TE Departments were carried out. The

chief guests of honour were Wg Cdr H R Parthasarathy,

chairman of IETE Bangalore Centre and Dr. M.H.Kori, Tech-

nology Advisor, Validus Technology USA. Heads of various

departments, faculties and students attended the session

The talk on Application Specific Integrated

Circuits (ASIC) was given by the Technical

Lead, Mirafra Technologies, Bangalore Mr.

Vijaypandian U . The event was organized

on 10.3.2012 in Smt Rajalakshmi Seminar

Hall , MVJCE.

An application-specific integrated cir-

cuit (ASIC) is an integrated circuit (IC) cus-

tomized for a particular use, rather than in-

tended for general-purpose use. For example,

a chip designed to run in a digital voice re-

corder is an ASIC. Application-specific stand-

ard products (ASSPs) are intermediate be-

tween ASICs and industry standard integrated

circuits like the 7400 or the 4000 series.

This seminar provided the insight of

the industry related with our theoretical

knowledge. Discussed about various opportu-

nities available in semiconductor field. Stu-

dents found it was very resourceful.

In telecommunications, 4G is the fourth generation of cellular mobile communications standards. It

is a successor of the third generation (3G) standards. A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband

Internet access, for example to laptops with USB wireless modems, to smart phones, and to other

mobile devices. Conceivable applications include amended mobile web access, IP telephony, gam-
