7.3 Best Practices of the Institution

Title: Internal Assessment made mandatory across the Streams at U.G and P.G

Level

Objective of the practice

The objective of Internal Assessment is to continuously assess the learning and

evaluation is as curtained. The underlying principle is continuous learning and

evaluation to motivate the learner throughout the semester. There is one

internal assessment at U.G level for all papers.

The Context

With the semester system in place, internal assessment has been introduced

along with it. The structured format across the streams has been introduced

both at U.G and P.G level to bring in uniformity in pattern of evaluation.

Multiple choice based questions are introduced in internal assessment to

balance the essay type questions asked in external question.

Practice

Most of the competitive exams evaluate the students through objective type

questions. The Internal Assessment helps the students to prepare themselves in

micro learning the given topics. It also helps the students to pay attention to

details about the given topic. It also helps in continuous learning and

assessment.

Evidence & Success

More involvement in learning activities by way of classroom interaction,

participation in discussions is noted. This in turn is reflected in the overall

performance.

Problems encountered and resources required

One of the challenges to conduct the internal assessment simultaneously was

lack of required resources in terms of invigilators and classrooms. In the initial

stages lots of challenges were faced. Later on, resolved to conduct on lines of

External assessment with seating arrangement and a fixed schedule allotment.

Page 35: Telangana State, India - Nizam Collegenizamcollege.ac.in/AQAR/AQAR2012-13R.pdf · Telangana State, India . Nizam College AQAR 2012-13 2 Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the

34

Title: Departments are given the freedom to upgrade the syllabus as required

.

1. Objective of the Practice

To include the topics which cater to the learner‟s needs

To trim the components this is obsolete and redundant.

To add components keeping in mind the needs of the market

2. The Context

Nizam College has 33 departments offering courses both at UG and PG level.

The faculties are experienced and are members of board for syllabus

designing, BOS, Material Production team at college and university level. To

utilize the expertise available the faculty is encouraged to upgrade and design

the syllabus as per the requirement of learners and also the market.

3. The Practice

The college encourages the departments to upgrade their syllabus as required.

The departments modify, upgrade the syllabus and get it approved by the

BOS. Almost all the departments keep upgrading their syllabus based on their

needs.

4. Evidence of success

Due to constant up gradation and modification of syllabus, it is up to date and

in sync with the market requirements. This has helped students to stay ahead

and foray into different institutions of higher learning. Many of our students

got admission in various universities across India and abroad at P.G, M.Phil

and Ph.D, Level.

5. Problems encountered and resources required

The problems encountered while upgrading the syllabus are

To have a unanimous decision as to why certain parts of syllabi are

removed.

To have clarity about parts of syllabi being redundant.

For resolving these issues instead of removing the entire part from the syllabus

a part of it is retained.
