Welcome Autumn and Cooler TemperaturesOctober brings cool breezes and more time to spend
on the golf course. We still have a few tournaments this
month with the official season wrapping up on October
23rd and 24th with the Men's Year End Tournament.
Some important dates this month:
The Men's Challenge Cup will take place on Saturday,
October 9th and 10th with Tee Times starting at 10:30
am. The Men's Stag Day Member Guest is scheduled
on Wednesday, October 13th. Ladies Closing Day
is scheduled for Tuesday, October 19th with a 1 pm
shotgun. And finally the Men's Year End Tournament
is scheduled for October 23rd and 24th with a 9:30 am
shotgun. Please contact the ProShop directly for specific
information on any of the tournaments above. They can
be reached Tuesday - Sunday at 215-672-6110.
New Menus and New Events at Judd's and Jackson's this monthAre you ready for some creepy cuisine this month as
we have chosen to celebrate Halloween at our party
on Friday, October 22nd? Dress up and bring your
favorite ghouls and goblins to our Halloween Party
featuring a spooky buffet with pumpkin painting
activity and specials treats for the kids. See our full
menu here. Costumes are suggested. Reservations will
be REQUIRED for this event - so make sure to save
your spot by Wednesday, October 20th by calling

will be here. You can choose your design and painting

Thanksgiving will be here before you know itAfter skipping our traditional buffet last year because of
Covid-19, we have decided to host our Thanksgiving
Day Buffet again this year. Thanksgiving seating hours
will be from 1 pm - 6 pm on Thursday, November 25th.
Chef Chris has a whole new menu planned. Reservations
are REQUIRED for this event, please call 215-675-6000.

Dear Members:
With the arrival of October there are a few items
I wanted to bring to your attention as the
season begins to wind down.
• In October the 1st tee time is later. Weekdays the first
tee time is 8:30am and weekends beginning Oct. 9th
the first time is 8am. Please check https://www.spring-
millcountryclub.com/proshop/ for the latest course
conditions. As we get deeper into October frost delays
become a real possibility.
• As cooler weather moves in, our golf dress code is still
in full effect. Proper golf attire is required on the golf
course as well as the driving range and putting green.
Jeans and sweatpants are prohibited. Collared shirts are
still required… tucked in would be a nice touch.
• For handicap purposes your scores must be posted
until November 15th. Please continue to post until
then.
• Leaves will eventually become an issue. Please be
patient with our grounds department as they do their
best to keep up with it. Make sure everyone in your
group is watching the ball until it stops. Try to keep it
in the fairway!
• SHOP CREDIT expires at the end of the year. Spend
it sooner rather than later while the shop is still amply
supplied.

opportunity to experience area golf courses in
a relaxed, enjoyable environment. Registration
is open for the following events: Indian Valley Country
Club (Oct. 18), Whitford Country Club (Oct. 21),
Applecross Country Club (Oct. 25), Commonwealth
National Golf Club (Nov. 1), Radnor Valley Country
Club (Nov. 4), Talamore Country Club (Nov. 8) and
Huntingdon Valley Country Club (Nov. 11). Visit

TALKING TURF
Welcome to October, my favorite month of
the year! To me it represents the changing of
the seasons from Summer to Fall but more
importantly it is the end of the grind we are put through
during the summer months trying to keep the turf alive.
This year, more than any other I can remember, was
mentally and physically challenging to myself and our team.
The heat, humidity, and rain was relentless throughout the
season creating difficult working conditions for the team
as well as extremely difficult growing conditions for the
turf. We hit a few bumps in the road and had a little more
disease out there than we normally see in a season, but we
were able to hang on to provide you with the best playing
conditions possible. We are now in the process of getting
the course ready for next year with aerification, seeding, and
verticutting of areas throughout the course. Please excuse
our appearance as we perform these necessary cultural
practices. Enjoy your Fall golfing season and we will see you
around the club.

The 1 MORE Campaign encourages GAP
members to play one more round of golf, to eat one
more meal, to take one more lesson, to employ one more
caddie or to introduce one more golfer to the sport.
Those who opt into the 1 MORE Campaign become
eligible for monthly prizes. The 1 MORE Campaign, a
vision of former GAP President Bob Morey, began in
2016. It runs from April 1 to Nov. 14, the organization’s
active handicapping season. GAP members can sign
up for the 1 MORE Campaign via My GAP Locker.
Participants can track their monthly progress to see
where they stand compared to 2020 for each month.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month
During this month, both men and women linked regular physical
activity to recurrence, prevention, and to increased survival rates of
this disease.
Physical activity guidelines suggest that breast cancer survivors should
engage in aerobic activities at moderate intensity for a total of 150 minutes
per week or vigorous/strenuous intensity for 75 minutes per week; or some
combination.
Recommendations for strength training include performing activities that
work the major muscle groups in both the lower and upper body two or
three times per week. To improve flexibility, recent recommendations suggest
stretching major muscle groups when aerobic and strength-training activities
are performed.
Join us at the SMAC on October 12th 10:00am-12:00pm for our
Zumbathon in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness! We will provide light
snacks and refreshments. Bring a friend. All donations will go to the Susan G
Komen Foundation for breast cancer research. Reservations are a must.
