Introduction of Algebra is designed to meet the needs of those students whose skills will not allow

them success in Algebra I. The course content includes a brief review of Pre-Algebra skills, but will

also include concepts of Algebra in the context of real life situations. Many topics of this course

overlap with Algebra I to help ensure student success at the high school level. The textbooks being

used are as follows: Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry use Holt; Math of Finance course utilizes

Mathematics of Money by South-Western

What we expect students to learn through Math:

All PASS Standards and Objectives

Academic Vocabulary (Comprehension, Use, and Application of Math terms)

Understanding and use of Algebraic formulas and their function

Understanding and use of Geometric formulas and their function

Critical thinking using mathematical applications, analysis, and synthesis

We would like students to leave our school with math skills they can use in life whether in personal business, work environment, or college. We want students to be able to use higher order thinking skills to analyze situations and solve problems. Students should be able to transfer knowledge and use current skills to work with unfamiliar areas. We would also like to see our students performing at or above state averages on ACT and course exit exams.

The Arts

Tecumseh High School offers: Art I, Art Humanities, Ceramics I, II, & III, AP Art, and AP Art History.

Every student that graduates from Tecumseh High School completes two fine art classes.

Each class has a PASS based curriculum and includes studio production, development, and student competition.

Each class introduces the students to creative, historical, and technical areas of art and art mediums.

Art Humanities provides a foundation to art and art history. Through study and art production many of the students discover a desire to continue in visual arts after completing a course.

The Arts: How we monitor & assess

We will continue to look at the enrollment numbers from year to year to assess the growth in the upper level Ceramics classes and the AP Studio Art class. We will review the students’ portfolios to determine if there is an increased production of computer graphic related projects and or digital mediums.

By monitoring the pre-test and post-test scores from year to year, and making educational improvements as needed, we can improve the level of learning in our students.

Music

Tecumseh High School offers: Marching Band, Concert Band, Choir (trained), Choir (training), Music Theory, and Music Appreciation.

These classes all address and follow PASS objectives and standards.

Band and choir offer many performance opportunities and enrichment activities and both provide opportunities for students to participate in competitive events.

Enrichment activities and rehearsals give students experience in music, drama, acting, choreography, etc.

Music: How we monitor & assess

We believe that we can increase the enrollment in band and

choir through a more progressive middle school program.

We will look at enrollment numbers from year to year to

assess growth in the choir and band programs. The

instructors will monitor and test students progress in music

reading.

Better retention between the M.S. and H.S. programs would

eventually result in the ability for these groups to play and

sing greater variety and more difficult literature.

Foreign Languages:

Tecumseh High School offers: French I, II, & III and Spanish I, II, & III

The language department offers students the opportunity to become acquainted with other languages. Students are given the opportunity to understand and communicated in other languages.

Level I courses, students speak isolated words and learn small phrases, using basic vocabulary groups. Students are able to read and write short phrases.

Level II courses, students reach the Beginning Level proficiency as outlined in the OK PASS curriculum. Students are able to ask and answer common questions, to initiate and to sustain limited conversation. Students are able to read and comprehend main ideas for simple writings, and they are able to construct some sentences.

Level III courses, when offered, allow students to work at the Intermediate Level of proficiency as outlined by OK PASS curriculum. Students ask and answer questions about familiar topics; they understand sentence-long speech; they can read and interpret written materials; and they are able to compose original material using present, past, and future tenses.

Foreign Language: How we monitor and assess

Students currently learn vocabulary words and phrases, incorporating them into useable

skills.

We use Total Physical Response (TPR) activities, attaching meaning to words and phrases.

Such activities make the student more involved in the acquisition of language and so make

the students more likely to utilize acquired words and phrases.

Students’ progress is monitored daily with oral questions in the target language. The

process is repeated daily, incorporating new vocabularies and sentence structure.

Testing is used to assess the students’ ability to read and write in the target language.

The students’ spoken response to a spoken question demonstrates their listening and

speaking skills. A student should be able to respond correctly at least 70% of the time. A

willingness to participate is a primary indicator of a successful learning process. Teachers

have immediate feedback each day in the classroom.

Assessment will also be done through the use of written tests, reading, writing, and

entrance & exit exams.

Instructional Technology

Tecumseh High School offers: Keyboarding, Accounting, Computer App. I & II, Information Processing, Passport to Financial Literacy, Adobe Desktop Publishing, PowerPoint, In Design, and Web Page Design.

Tecumseh High School has 2 stationary desktop computer labs, computers in the library, at least one desktop in each classroom, and 4 mobile laptop computer labs.

All computers have internet access.

Instructional Technology: How we monitor and assess

Pre-testing of the computer application students allow us to move them to information processing based on their skill level.

The course is standardized based on PASS terms and requirements.

We will continue to upgrade software products and projects and continue to train staff on new software.

Pre- and post- tests will be a major indicator of progress.

The enrollment numbers in the business course sections will indicate a demand for the content (even though state requirements is at least one computer course.)

ACT scores will indicate the success of the Test Prep courses and their use of technology in the regular classroom settings.

The full extent of computer technology is used in these courses.

Physical Education / Health & Safety

Tecumseh High School offer a course called PE/Health & Safety

Physical Education students are currently examining and exploring physical activities, our bodies preparation for activity, and its response to activity. Students are lifting weights, running, and participating in various games and activities.

In Health & Safety, we introduce students to the systems of the human body-nervous, circulatory, respiratory, skeletal, muscular, digestive, endocrine, and male and female reproductive systems.

Physical Education/Health&Safety: How we monitor and assess

100% participation is expected

Motor skill improvement should occur through hand-eye coordination exercises; through a continued variety of activities.

Improved health awareness should occur through the health awareness lessons and concepts of wellness/safety and what it means to be healthy.

Periodic skills tests will be used to assess. Improvement in strength and stamina are our targets. Health & Safety students will be expected to show growth in knowledge as per their test scores.

The mobile laptop computer carts are checked out and used to explore health topics and to do health research.

Information Literacy

The Tecumseh High School Library has more than 1,500 titles of audio-visual software (including DVD, videos, filmstrips, audiocassette tapes, records, and slides).

The computers in the library allow the students to access the library catalog, the internet, and online databases as well as several software based research programs.

We purchase research based software for reference materials to allow for increased availability by students and faculty.

Career & Technology Education Programs

The Tecumseh High School offers in the consumer science

department: Family Consumer Science I & II, Adult and Family

Living, Parenting and Child Development, and Food and

Nutrition. We have one consumers science instructor.

The Tecumseh High School offers in the Agricultural Education

department: Agriscience I & II, Equine Management,

Horticulture I and II, Natural Resources, Animal Science,

Agriculture Power Technology I and II, Biotechnology,

Agricultural Communications, Food Science, We have three

Vocational Agriculture instructors.

Career & Technology Education Programs: Monitoring and assessment

Career and Technical programs are continually assessed and monitored by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technical Education, which is based in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Competency testing on-line is now available to help assess specific skill areas in which students need improvement. Students who pass the competency tests may be judged to receive up to nine hours college credit in the indicated areas.

We have competitive speech and judging contest opportunities that are offered by the student organizations, FFA and Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).

Using test scores we will monitor our program and we will use student performance as our performance indicators.
