Part A: Program EvaluationExecutive SummaryAlfred Ely Beach High School, located in Savannah, Georgia (Chatham County), has improved tremendously since going through a turnaround model five years ago. Apart of the turnaround was for the school to receive millions of dollars for the school to improve scores and graduation rates. Due to the increase in funds, Beach High Schools media center has changed dramatically in a positive direction and with increased responsibilities. Part of the increased responsibilities was to increase professional development sessions for students and teachers that shows them various ways to use technology tools and devices to increase technology use school wide, which was mentioned in the current Chatham County Technology Plan. Even though funds increased for the media center to receive various technology devices and tools, the center is only allowed to have two workers, a media clerk and a media specialist. With only two workers, it is hard for them to have professional development sessions as often as the school would like because they have to run their daily media center operations and complete required duties and meet deadlines outlined in the media specialist to do list packet. Overall, the center is ran appropriately and professionally and is headed in the right direction of meeting their goals, but definitely has room to grow and become one of the most successful running media centers in Savannah, Georgia.Organizational ChartThe purpose of this organizational chart is to show the actual operations conducted at the Beach High School Media and Technology Center. The chart is based on discussions held with the Media Specialist/Media Clerk and observations conducted weekly.

After conducting interviews and observations, it is determined that the center is ran appropriately and professionally and has adapted to meeting the needs of the Chatham County technology plan, which states, Chatham believes technology resources are essential to support the overall district vision, From school to the world: All students prepared for productive futures. We envision future classrooms infused with technological tools to assist and better prepare our students for the increasingly competitive global workforce. (Feliciano, David. Savannah Chatham County Schools District Technology Plan 2012-2015. Office of Technology Services, n.d. Web. 21 May. 2012. (http://www.sccpss.com/district/ddi/Documents/FINALTechPlan2012-2015.pdf). BHS Technology Center main focus is to ensure that the daily operations are ran appropriately and require extra time to ensure teachers and students are informed on new technologies that can be helpful with classroom instruction. Funding for the BHS school media center has been steady these past five years and allowed the center to receive a multitude of technology equipmentiPads, Mimeos, Chromebooks, laptops, COWs, Etc. to help support technology implementation. With an increase in technology equipment and having school wide Wi-Fi, more teachers are able to increase technology use at the same time in the classrooms by utilizing google docs, web 2.0 tools, study island, etc., which helps them collaborative plan and ensure that all students are learning the same things for the same subject. According to the mission statement and center goals, BHS media center is ensuring that these obligations are being met through the various center activities. After observing and interviewing students that were involved in the Black History Month Quiz Bowl, it was determined that the students thought the activity was inspirational, challenging, knowledgeable, and engaging, however they would have like for the quiz bowl to be shown school wide. The students also stated that being involved in other things besides regular classes are always fun and that they would love to be a part of more activities during the school year. Some of the activities they suggested were: different subject quiz bowls, high school spelling bees to help support the SAT, media internships with SCAD, student news broadcast, and radio broadcasting.Overall, Beach HS technology center is ran appropriately and professionally and is fortunate enough to have the funds to help assist with reaching their goals, however I do have a recommendation. My recommendation is for the principal to delegate a few of the media staff duties to other staff members, specifically from the business teachers to help assist the media specialist with some of the professional development sessions and/or clubs. Business teachers should be learning about newer technologies and various real world ways they can be used in a regular classroom. For example, if an English class is reading a book, the business teacher can show the teacher how to use moviemaker to create a book trailer that explains the major parts of the book. With additional help, the media center will continue to grow in the right direction and maintain successful programs and sessions that help increase student engagement and learning.

Appendix EBlack History Month Quiz Bowl Observation & Interview RecordInterviewer: Rhonda RobertsInterviewees: Venus Wright, Mikeria Wilds, Anthony Woods, Iyanna Burchell, and AlLasia StevensTopic Discussed: Media Center Activities Date of Observation: 3/6/2015Quiz Bowl Setup: Dawnique Steel, Sharon Coles, and Rhonda Roberts

The following students above, including others, came into the media center during 3rd and 4th period to play the Black History Month Quiz Bowl. Each student was placed in their appropriate groups (Four Groups) and Dawnique Steel, the media specialist, explained the game and answered all of their questions before beginning the game. Students were provided with buzzards in order to successfully be chosen to answer the question. As the students begin to play the game, they were fully engaged and wanted to win the game. Each group played every other group and the two groups with the most points played each other for the championship game. Each correct question was worth 1 point. There were not any technical difficulties, however, I do think that a microphone was needed for the moderator because he had to repeat the question due to his voice being low. The group that won, was from Ms. Glovers class, which are the students listed above. Overall, you can tell there was a lot of great preparation done because everything ran extremely smooth. After the game, all students were awarded certificates and the winning group won a medal and a gift card to Coldstone Creamery. After awarding students their gifts, I pulled them to the side to ask a few questions:Question 1: What did you think about this activity?Question 2: What other activities would you like be involved in?Question 3: Do you have any suggestions to make the Quiz Bowl better?
